I tried deinstalling some conflicting packages but it ended up with a round-robin contrast which made that route blocked as wellIn the end. I booted up with the old kernel (which was at least bootable) got to a text prompt inserted my handy-dandy USB flash control (I always carry at least two) into the turn and mounted it by hand (luckily I'm an old *nix transfer and don't need a GUI to operate!).
