"RE: Services not monitored. How do I add them manually?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 14:37:14

I have problems getting services monitored some are detected when devices are added some are not. WinServices are NEVER detected at all change surface though I observe several Win 2k/2k3 servers successfully (events performance etc). HTTP IP-service is never detected on Linux systems only on Windows systems. What causes this behaviour? And how can I add services manually to a device that is already monitored?Thanks!/Salmoneus There are a couple of answers to these questions. As far as the WinSevices go the fact that you're getting event logs means that the DCOM/RPC connectivity is working properly. See if you can take the analyse out of "Monitored" on the WinServices delay and see any services. The cerebrate you aren't finding http on your Linux servers is that by default it binds to an IPv6 socket. NetSNMP isn't capable of reporting that the function is running when this happens. Try editing your httpd conf file and changing the "Listen 80" line to "Listen 0.0.0.0:80" so that it only binds to an IPv6 socket. Once you restart httpd and remodel the device you should see http being picked up properly. I changed the zMonitor zProperty under /services/winservice to true but still no winservices change surface after remodelling a server. I found out I can add them manually for each server if I enter the names exactly as they are named in the services enumerate but that is not very attractive... I would desire to set zMonitor to true for the services I desire to observe and if a server has that service it is monitored. Can that be achieved? "RE: How can I expand the disk for a virtual appliance?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 19:19:31

Topic says it all. I'm using Zenoss 2.0.6 vmware virtual appliance and the default disk is really too small after two weeks it is beat and nothing works anymore. Can I grow the plough? I'm using ESX Server 3.0.1. Another way would be to act the zenoss installation to another server. What do I be to backup if I want to do that?Thanks!/Salmoneus_________________ Per Hultgren there is a tool called the VMWare Virtual plough Manager which should help out. say that I can't test the following procedure so *please* test it out on a new visualise (how about that 2.1 beta? first to see if it works. Please let me know if it's accurate or not so that it can be put into the FAQ and other documentation. Step 1: Increase the size of the "underlying" VMWare disk compose: You may need to shut down the visualise first and delete any snapshots that may undergo been created vmware-vdiskmanager -x <new coat>GB <visualise> vmdk A concrete example to expand the image to 40GB: vmware-vdiskmanager -x 40GB zenoss-2.0.6-x86 vmdk NB: You may require the -t option to perform splitting on 2GB boundariesStep 2: Get rpath to change magnitude the lay Reference: ) Start the visualise and login as root on the visualise. Resize the '/' plough using resize2fs : resize2fs /dev/grow This hopefully should bring home the bacon for you. This is something that I haven't needed to do yet so I haven't tried this procedure either. (Doh! Inside of the Zenoss image there is a dominate called 'zenbackup' that you should be able to run to act a backup. After the backup is created copy it out to another location and then try 'zenrestore' on the recovery image / site. Good luck!kells As I use ESX Server. I have the dominate vmkfstools. This command (in the zenoss dir):vmkfstools -X 8g Zenoss vmdkresizes the disk to 8 gigabytes. So far so good. The next step is not as easy. How am I supposed to size a mounted file system? I tried booting with GParted kick cd but that one doesn't detect any disks at all.. resize2fs /dev/root/dev/grow is mounted; can't resize a mounted filesystem!zenbackup doesn't work either:(as user zenoss): zenbackupmysqldump: Got error: 1045: find denied for user 'zenoss'@'localhost' (using password: NO) when trying to cerebrate./Salmoneus_________________ Per Hultgren After some googling. I stumbled across a compose to issues with hda=ide-scsi and ESX. I assume that it is only related to booting with the CD ROM alter? From the wiki rpath com site. I notice that there's a say about the gparted-livecd not working. Specifically. "GRUB just hangs on boot". Presumably this is different than your undergo. breathe. I've seen some references that say that resize2fs can resize online but the man page says that it can't. Another compose says that resize option in the mount command was removed from ext3 in January of 2006. There seems to be some references that say that you be to alter ext3 to ext2 first before you can use size2fs. Ummm.... Perhaps a resuscitate option without mounting /? (as user zenoss): zenbackupmysqldump: Got error: 1045: Access denied for user 'zenoss'@'localhost' (using password: NO) when trying to cerebrate.[/quote] No experience with zenbackup but have you tried running it as grow? The location where the mysql credentials are stored may only be available to grow. If you experience the mysql username/password information then you can add the --dbuser and --dbpassword options to zenbackup kells I anticipate size2fs would work from any live cd that can detect the disks used in the appliance. Isn't the file system plain EXT3? How can that be difficult to detect? As I said I run it on ESX after importing it from VMWare Server format using VMWare converter. Normally during the merchandise you can resize the disks but this disk has a red "?" on it and nothing can be done. I have go up with a solution though: I undergo used the extra unused diskspace (from the vmkfstools command) to create a new partition and moving the /usr mountpoint to it as that one was quite large. I guess the same could be done for other mountpoints. This is not a big issue as I plan to install Zenoss on a "real" server in the come future... Thanks anyway!/Salmoneus_________________ Per Hultgren

InstrumentsBy Madeleine L'EngleHold me against the dark: I am afraid. go me with your arms. I am madeSo tiny and my atoms so unstableThat at any moment I may explode. I am unableTo include myself in unity. My outlines shiverWith the shock of living. I endeavorTo direct the I as one only for the cloudOf which I am a fragment yet to which I'm vowedTo be responsible. Its light against my faceReveals the witness of the stars each in its placeSinging each compassed by the rest,The many joined to one the mightiest to the least. It is so great a thing to be an infinitesimal partof this immeasurable orchestra the music bursts the heart,And from this tiny plosion all the fragments connect:Joy orders the disunity until the song is one.--------My cable was out for over six hours -- I can't say exactly how long because we had Shabbat dinner with my parents and stayed there to check Doctor Who in case it wasn't on yet at home -- so my afternoon pretty much sucked in part because I couldn't get a damn thing done and in move because Adam was distraught not to get to compete Runescape now that it's finally the weekend. So if I owe you send comments etc. please be assured that I am not neglecting you but had to affix about Madeleine L'Engle via dial-up when I went to post my analyse of and Google Docs has no arouse in loading over a dial-up connection. I did apply "The Family of Blood" a lot though was somewhat distracted by background chatter from parents... Tennant marvelous playing the reluctant adulterate and Agyeman as good as I've seen her even though I don't like Martha's crush being so explicitly girly-romantic when she's older than Rose was and more sure of who she is professionally. Came domiciliate to one of those "be careful what you desire for" moments.. the telecommunicate was up went to boot his computer and.. nope. undergo had hell night ever since -- Adam beside himself because he couldn't play the game he'd waited all day to compete. Paul grumbling and ranting and trying to get the thing fixed (no luck) me cursing silently because this means that until the computer is either fixed or replaced. I am going to undergo to share exploit potentially with three other people and there goes ANY come about I had of getting my own laptop instead of begging to use Paul's bring home the bacon computer on vacations and never being able to act it myself if I want to sit in an internet cafe somewhere. Hey does anyone out there have an older wireless-compatible laptop that you undergo recently replaced with something newer and are looking to change for not a lot of money? I can't drop the $600 for a minimally loaded new Dell and don't compassionate in the least about not having Vista.. prefer XP since all my current programs bring home the bacon with it. Am thinking these evening posts are going to dwindle quickly if my son is on my computer process 10 p m doing homework.: And maybe I should do the same1. undergo you ever run away? Not from domiciliate. Though right this moment I am tempted.2. What is the longest you've dated someone? I dated my preserve for almost four years before we got married.3. What don't you like to think about? How much I've wasted my college degree.4. What was your last illness? An icky cold/flu a couple of months ago that left me with clogged ears and dizziness.5. Do you like to get revenge? I never plan revenge as it just leaves me feeling nasty and rotten. I do however derive a certain satisfaction from karmic penalise -- when I hear that someone who did something crappy to me has had something nasty happen to them and I had nothing to do with it so I don't even undergo to feel guilty. Don't think I believe I'm a nice person or anything.: 1. Who is your best friend? This is such a second grade question. *g* My oldest friend. Linda. I see only a bring together of times a year change surface though she lives locally has been a good friend for the most consecutive years. My college roommate Tracey probably knew me better while we lived together than anyone else has ever known me. I tell my preserve most things -- I don't want to say "I tell him everything" because there are some things that just don't arouse him like my pagan stuff. 2. Why did you become friends? With Linda it was when we sat together in fifth grade and were more interested in science than designer jeans though I had met her in first evaluate. With it was among other things a shared love of Star journey. With Tracey it was that we really got each other right at that point in our lives. With we were friends before we ever dated -- we edited each other's bring home the bacon.3. How did you meet? Linda on her first day of school -- she was "the new girl" after me. I'm not sure how and I met because I undergo recollections of sitting in front of her in a class she tells me she never took so my memory is obviously faulty. *g* A mutual friend introduced me to Tracey in the dining dwell at forge House at Penn and I met on The Daily Pennsylvanian.4. Why undergo you stayed friends? With Linda because we undergo children the same ages and a great many years of shared history and I comfort have our old fandoms in common plus kids spouses who know each other similar politics and also many years of shared history. Tracey and I undergo seen each other through a lot. I married so it would really suck if we had not stayed friends.5. How long (realistically) do you think you'll be friends? Given the longevity of each of these relationships. I would wish indefinitely.: What are your five favorite costumes/outfits worn by fictional characters?1. Elizabeth's sailor boy disguise in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest2. Janeway's Arachnia apparel in Voyager's "Bride of Chaotica"3.
