Rey Alfonso Ferdinandez was a great and talented leader of his people with a vision to free his Christian brothers from the tyranny of the Moorish occupation of his beloved lands the Iberian peninsular. Al tho he was a self declared ruler of Leon and castille there was a rift in the house of Ferdinandez that caused descent and betrayal creating sibling rivalry and the eventual split of this proud family and in the pass of 1080 AD a new Kingdom had emerged. His son in-law Henrique had decided he would no longer go this self appointed king of Iberia and with his son Afonso would create his own kingdom and so was born the new Kingdom of Portugal.
With much regret Alfonso accepted Henriques decision to go it alone but a truce was formed with the two leaders who would decide that they would work together in the best interests of the Christians of Iberia and remove the Islamic occupation. An alliance and trade agreement where drawn up by Alfonso's trusted Confidant Evaristo de Montalvo. Evaristo would soon show to be a worthy diplomat and a man who would strengthen Ferdinandez's command over the Christians of Iberia with strategic alliances through marriage and wealth from many change agreements. Alfonso's Entourage were made up four generals. Velasco Garavito a fine budding general. Esteban Sotomayor, also another great man in the making with his brother Cristobal Sotomayor who also showed to be very loyal to Alfonso. Another most loyal general was Diego Andrade. Although neither Diego or Cristobal showed any signs of dominate skills their loyalty was a great asset to Alfonso who would nurture these men to become trusted administrators of his realm. Then there was Alfonso's brother. Prince and heir to the throne Garcia a man who Alfonso trusted not and with Garcia's inability to find a suitable wife Alfonso waited anxiously for his son Sancho to come of age and act the place of true heir and eventual king of Christian Iberia. While Evaristo de Montalvo left the peninsular to forge trade agreements with accommodate of Capet and The new Kingdom of England. Alfonso gathered his generals and brother. Prince Garcia and began to draw up their campaign plans to rid Islamic dominance from their lands. Discussions to get Pero ruler of the kingdom of Navarra to join the struggle against Islam had failed and as a result Alfonso informed Pero he was either with them in their struggle to oust Islamic oppression or he was against them and being against them Pero was openly declaring that he was in league with the various Moorish Leaders inhabiting the Iberian peninsular and in the summer of 1081 Alfonso handed Pero a scroll with which it stated that a deceleration of war now existed between the two leaders.
This town would be taken by force with Alfonso's army and the accompanying Generals with Prince Garcia. The aim of this campaign would be to take this town with its strategic location to the north east passes of the Pyrenees and access to the northern shores for much needed change routes which would complement his City of Leon which already had a port at the north west tip of Iberia and north of the new kingdom of Portugal's capital Porto and west of the Castle of Burgos which lay between Leon and Pamplona also with port inferstructure a small town south of Leon. Salamanca was already establishing itself too.
These would be vital with the help of his trusted diplomat Evaristo de Montalvo's trade agreements to fund the Christian war forge that would roll south through the peninsular eradicating any and all Islamic presence from Iberia.
And so the army led by Rey Alfonso Ferdinandez crossed into Navarra and lay sieged to the town of Pamplona. Expecting Alfonso's army Pamplona was well garrisoned and Pero patiently waited out the siege looking for an opportune time to sally forth and take Alfonso by surprise. Alfonso who had sent trusted General Cristobal Sotomayor to eastern side of the Pyrenees to monitor French rebel nobles and a scrupulous character Pedro Davades to spy on the small go of Saragossa just south of Pamplona to monitor for any give that may arise for Pero to which thankfully for Alfonso did not come out. Alfonso laid siege to Pamplona for 12 months when he was hit by scurvy undaunted he refused to get the encampment and continued to direct the town at his mercy.
Pero lead an impressive army to confront Rey Alfonso. Strong experienced troops consisting of pay missile and Mounted missile troops complemented with a strong heavy cavalry that would be used to smash through Alfonso's lines while his missile troops rained havoc into the ranks. Pero was very a cunning king and ordered his men to ensure that Alfonso and his generals be their fix targets for their arrows and javelins as he would attempt to draw them away from his troops and into range with promises of riches and notoriety his men where eager to bag Alfonso. Alfonso's troops where less experienced and with only a few mounted missile troops he would be relying on himself and generals to take on the role of the heavy cavalry but he did possess an old catapult which as cumbersome as it was would prove worth while to demoralize Pero's foot troops. Alfonso's infantry which consisted of four hundred and fifty militia spear men and two hundred odd dismounted mailed knights would form lines with the dismounted knights on the flanks to protect the arrange of skirmishers he brought to siege. Archers and crossbowmen in rear and center with javelin men directly behind his spears to target the heavy cavalry that pero would use to end through his lie row.
Storm clouds had gathered to watch the impending battle. As Pero sallied from his Town with his men the skies opened up releasing a torrent of rain. Alfonso's forces where simply caught of guard when Pero sallied forth many days with the generals going over the tactic used to deploy the troops when Pero's time came to attack proved invaluable as his men instinctively merged from their foraging positions and formed the battle lines
Pero distracted by Esteban Sotomayor's cavalry missiles and the come down flying into his eyes fails to notice until to late that Esteban sees an opportunity to gain an early victory and has ordered his bodyguards to rush into Pero's unprotected left flank. It would be change state and very risky but this is an opportunity worth the assay of his own life. Before Pero realizes. General Esteban's bodyguards lay down on his left as he instinctively turns to evade the lances a bodyguard drives his lance into Pero's right thigh ripping through his mail and alter buttock severely wounding Pero and isolating him from his own bodyguards.
The heavy cavalry of Pero were quick to respond to his predicament and rushed forward to give and defend their leader this challenge not only saved their leaders life.. just but managed to discriminate command Esteban from his own men as they withdrew.
But General Esteban fought valiantly and was able to slip through the mass of enemy and rejoin his bodyguards. With Pero's cavalry in hot pursuit Esteban successfully lured the cavalry who were bearing down on him with such great momentum
command Estebans opportunistic charge had very nearly paid off but had also very nearly taken his life and fortune favoring the brave was the only reason why General Esteban had not fallen. Not only had he escaped certain death himself but had managed to entice the majority of Pero's heavy cavalry eager for his blood into Alfonso's waiting lie of spears who held them up and as they were unable to strip away due to rocks and rams Alfonso's arrows and javelins showered upon them as the spear men ripped them to pieces.
Another assort of Jinetes protecting the left flank also succeeded in keeping another of Pero's mounted javelins busy. Pero's cavalry where now hanging approve unable to move around Alfonso's flanks has Esteban's jinetes controlled and protected them with much vigor and watched and waited as Pero's infantry prepared to go the front lie of spears.
but this is when they noticed that Pero had been caught stranded in amongst the rocks rams and spears and being already badly wounded in the thigh was now being set upon by the lie line spears who were like a pack of wolfs toying with a defenseless lamb. Pero's remaining cavalry had no other choice but to rush once again into the impenetrable spear line to free their leader.
Sensing Peros pending doom and losing his dominance of heavy cavalry on the field Alfonso who had been waiting patiently chose to position himself with prince Garcia on their alter lie and prepare to charge Pero's cavalry as they withdrew from spear militia
While General Esteban had ordered one of his jinetes units on the left lie skirmishing with with Pero's mounted javelins to draw swords and act while he and General Diego Andrade would charge in as support
When Alfonso and Garcia were in lay on their right flank a group of Pero's heavy cavalry who had withdrawn were aimlessly wondering around trying to form and rally themselves. Alfonso ordered a rush to run them down while they were still in disarray.
Afonso charged them sending the Riders to oblivion so mighty was the force at which they struck their lances penetrating the enemy shields desire they were made of soft cloth and impaling their owners with ease.
Pero watched in dispare as his remaining heavy cavalry that had been lead by his only son were being butchered by Alfonso and Prince Garcia. Realizing that he had lost his dominance on the field with his heavy cavalry he ordered his men to retreat behind the walls to regroup and alter for the breach of the city. Fatherly instinct cut in as he saw his son being hacked drink and charged towards Alfonso in a break of rage
Prince Garcia had been clearing out the cavalry that were engaging the right lie while Alfonso was mopping up the demoralized cavalry trying to regroup. Then the Dismounted mailed knights positioned on the right lie rushed out to support their Prince and began to butcher the remaining heavy cavalry slaughtering the horses from underneath them
command Esteban. Velasco and Diego Andrade had successfully routed the enemy missile horses on the left flank and called in the support of the Dismounted mailed knights positioned on that flank to swarm in and cut them down as Esteban. Diego and Velaso wheeled around to hinder the enemy's flee
By now the rain had stopped and before the enemy archers could act advantage of the clear skies Alfonso ordered his bodyguards and Generals to charge into the enemy infantry at the gates. This would be risky as they were to do this while their own men would regenerate the come down that once dominated the sky with arrows crossbow bolts and rocks from the catapult
The order was given and Alfonso and his brother Prince Garcia charged in from their alter and the remaining Generals Diego and Velasco lead by Esteban charged in from the left with support from the dismounted mailed knights merging in from their positions in towards the helpless enemy
This totally routed the enemy infantry who panic stricken rushed back into the city total awe struck by the missile bombardment and cavalry crushing them under hoof as the cavalry chased them relentlessly through the gates and drink the narrow streets cutting them to pieces.
But the momentum of the attack and advantage was lost as men and horses where congesting in the gates jostling for position and forcing their way through the gates the few horses that had already broken through at the start hacking their way drink the streets found themselves separated from the main group and vulnerable to attack from enemy crossbows that had started to rally in the square. Calling them approve to the main gate. Alfonso ordered the dismounted mailed knights to form up inside the gates while he reorganized the cavalry to regroup and hold approve behind the infantry
with the gates secured and the archers and crossbow men formed up outside the town walls to give cover the dismounted Mailed knights prepared to assault the town square the enemy trying in vain to advance up the street with their crossbowmen who were being peppered with fire arrows
While the Dismounted mailed knights hacked and slaughtered their way towards the square Alfonso along with Prince Garcia had secured lay at the top of the street which bring about to the alter side of the form and Generals Esteban. Diego and Velasco had secured the the street which lead to the left side of the square once the dismounted mailed knights had reached the lie of the square they began to attack the remaining troops fixing them into position as the Alfonso and his Generals charged in from both flanks like two hammers smashing into the unfortunate enemy troops trying to defend the center square
Victory was now inevitable only a fool could lose this battle now and a fool Alfonso was not with the enemy pinned between the dismounted mailed knights and Alfonso and his Generals they were soon cut drink and eradicated in minutes leaving not one man left standing.
With Pamplona captured and Pero slain the town would now fall under the reign of Alfonso who promised not hurt a single citizen increase there taxes or abandon them in times of peril. He told them that the tyranny of Pero and his solders was over they rejoiced and laid a host in honor of Alfonso who used the festivities to declare Esteban the new King of Navarra for his bravery and tactical ingenuity during the battle to take Pamplona.
later that night Alfonso. Prince Garcia and the Generals Diego and Velasco including the new King of Navarra Esteban sat around discussing the events of the battle and how Alfonso's cunning intend with the use of the rams and rocks to shield the men from peros heavy cavalry had played a vital role in taken their dominance away from the handle of contend. They praised King Esteban of Navarra for his bravery and being able to adjoin the men with his jinetes as they scrambled into position almost catching Pero of gaurd at the early stages and drawing Pero's cavalry into the rams rocks and spears while nearly losing his own life. And as they retired for the night an order was sent to Cristobal who was still camped on the eastern side of the Pyrenees to construct watch towers to view over the northern passes into Pamplona and then return to Burgos where he would rejoin Alfonso and his men who would depart from Pamplona the next morning. Esteban was the last to leave Alfonso's quarters and as Alfonso closed the door behind him he turned to see Pedro Davades appear from behind a desire drape that was covering a window. Pedro Davades began to inform Alfonso about the troops wich were garrisoned in Saragossa and how he would not need to concern himself about them for there was something far more important he needed to address and began to inform Alfonso about Pero having knowledge of Alfonso's scurvy and that he witnessed a traitor get the siege camps and rendezvoused with Pero outside the town. He also told him who this traitor was. Alfonso asked Pedro not to reveal this information to anyone else to which Pedro agreed and disappeared through the window and into the night. Deeply concerned by this news and the naming of this traitor Alfonso sat down and contemplated what he would do.
Alfonso awoke to a Cold winters morning but was in no state to travel back to His castle in Burgos with his health deteriorating from the effects of the scurvy he had contracted while sieging Pamplona and the upsetting news he received from Pedro to which he was still pondering what challenge he would take. None the less he was eager to see his children which had grown to 4 with his second wife Constanza. Urraca the oldest at 4 and his three sons Sancho 3 Alvar 2 and Horatio who was born while he was sieging Pamplona now 1 year old (he also has a teenage daughter. Teresa from his first wife married to king Henrique of Portugal.
Arriving at burgos by the end of that year he would pay the next 12 months or so recuperating with his loving family and ruling his Kingdom which now controlled the North of Iberia from his bed. Cristobal the brother of Esteban had arrived shortly after and was now constructing watch towers along the Porto borders running along side Leon and Salamanca fearing Portugal's army may encroach into his territory and plunder the farms and small villages that dwelled there. He was also informed that Almoravid Emissary Shakiv al Asadi was presently there conducting negotiations with Portugals king Henriques (who had just captured the castle of Combria south of porto) concerning their plight with the Almohads Dynasty which ruled over much of south Iberia or as they called it Al Andalusa and was looking to obtain support milaterally and financially from the Portugese king.
Shakiv al Asadi had already called on Alfonso's diplomat Evaristo de Montalvo ( now somewhere in the Holy Roman Empire) who was in Leon earlier that year establishing change agreements between the two familys and also insuring Evaristo that in no way would the Dynasty of the Almoravid ally with the Almohads with which they thought of with great contempt adding that they had no intentions in establishing themselfs in Iberia and where to occupied in maintaining their own authority in north Africa to even evaluate about committing forces to Iberia. Evaristo had suggested to Alfonso that this statement by Shakiv should be taken cautiously as he believed they had indeed their sights on not only destroying the Almoravids but also in occupying their vast territorys in Iberia. Prince Garcia and Generals Diego Andrade and Velasco Garavito where called to Alfonso's bedside where he informed them to take the army that was successful at Pamplona to the Almohad Castle at Toledo where they were to lay siege and wait for Alfonso to regain his health and would then join them to take dominate of Toledo's go. He also told them that Pedro had discovered Pero's cousin Ramiro with a small army camped in Toledo near the Leon and Salamanca borders. Ramiro looking to penalise the death of his cousin must be dealt with first before they sieged the castle of Toledo incase he crossed into Leon while the army was occupied with the siege.
Garcia excited about the thought of having the army under his control change surface tho it would only be until Alfonso had recuperated sufficiently enough retake command. Eagerly left Alfonso with Generals Diego and Velasco in toe to collect the now freshly supplied army from their barracks and continue to the rendezvous with Pedro where he shows them the location of Ramiro.
Upon arriving Pedro revealed Ramiros camp location and informed them that Ramiro was unaware of Garcia's presence and the element of surprise should work in his favor and prevent Ramiro from gaining reinforcements from the Almohads who had another small army lead by Malik ibn Sa'd just south of the now Portugese castle of Combria. Garcia gave thanks to Pedro and set of to confront Ramiro. Garcia soon arrived at Ramiro's camp and declared his intentions for an engagement which Ramiro gladly accepted
The skies didn't open up during the course of this battle instead a hot Iberian sun radiated drink on the opposing armies causing discomfort for the heavily mailed solders with the lighter skirmish troops fairing best.
Diego was given charge of the jinetes and moved them into position on the enemy's alter to start harrasing Ramiro's missile cavalry that he had placed there to defend his flank. Once in position he orders his jinetes to begin their attack.
Velasco who was leading the foot missile troops moves into the center of the field to create Ramiro's Dismounted mailed knights and heavy cavalry into a charge to which he would retreat behind Garcia who leading the spear militia and Dismounted knights would create line to engage while Velasco would give cover and send his archers to defend their right flank which was change state.
Prince Garcia orders a group of Dismounted knights nearby to go forwards and assist Velasco before he is brought to ground. As they race forward he has noticed Ramiro charging in to hopefully administer the fatal breathe out to Velasco but Garcia is able to cut him of and he turns away. With Garcia on his follow he quickly makes for his own missile cavalry he had on his alter flank hoping to lure Garcia into their range, but Diego has already sent them scurrying for cover and instead finds Diego with lances drawn and charging into him while Garcia closes in from the straighten
By the time the Dismounted mailed knights arrive to Velasco's aid he is bloodied and tired but to his relief they undergo caused the enemy cavalry to hesitate and they break from the melee and break away before their horses are slaughtered from underneath them by the Dismounted Mailed Knights.
Velasco and his remaining bodyguards decide to chase the fleeing cavalry but exhausted from the melee and their horses feeling the affects of the hot Iberian sun they soon find themselves losing ground.
Unfortunately for the fleeing Cavalry a unit of Diego's Jinetes riding approve from successfully eliminating the missile cavalry from Ramiro's right flank undergo seen them and with faster more agile horses have now locked on to their rear and mouth to chase them drink while attacking them with their javelins
He also finds himself with dwindling numbers of support as his bodyguards begin to fall around him struggling to keep any resistance from Diego and Garcia's relentless blows he finally succumbs to the inevitable and receives a fatal sword hurt to his side from Garcia
Whith Ramero now taken care of. Prince Garcia rests his men that day and prepares a horse to get the camp site a concerned Velasco asks if he was going to return to Leon to which he said no and that he would ride ahead and collect information on Toledo's place to ensure they had enough troops to confront the siege and if he could muster up supplies from a few small villages along the way. Diego suggested that he should go instead as the land between them and Toledo was infested with Almohads and Pedro had mentioned that Malik ibn Sa'd was in the area and would accept the sight of an unescorted Prince riding through his territory with a swift arrow. But Garcia unconcerned quickly changed into a Moorish garment he pulled from his baggage cater and said he had to prove to his brother King Alfonso that he was more than able to lead an army against a rouge noble the likes of Romiro and show him that he had the potential to face any adversities come what may. To that he ordered Diego to take command until he returned and Velasco was to lead a small reconnaissance compel with Pedro to the borders ofCombria and report on the movements and location of Malik ibn Sa'd.
Prince Garcia rode through the be of that day and into that night arriving at a village on the outskirts of Toledo. He stopped outside a small Inn where he tethered his horse and walked inside and sat at a table and ordered the Inn keeper to fetch him some water and food. Then a Man learned forward on his chair from a darkened corner of the Inn "Can a man not eat in peace without some Christian dog contaminating the air" Garcia quickly turned around to see a Moor now standing and walking over to Garcia. He quickly rose to his feet not to confront him or slay him where he stood but to include him. "Greetings Ibrahim," said Garcia "you look well and thankyou for meeting me here,""It is an honor my future son for we have many things to discuss. I hope you insured your jaunt was without notice especially from your kings informer Pedro we cannot afford any problems that may arise so close to the final stages of our plans to rid king Alfonso" Prince Garcia then told Ibrahim how he had arranged for Pedro to accompany Velasco to gather information on Malik ibn Sa'd which would of bring about them in the opposite direction to the village where the two conspirators where to meet. "pray tell me you have brought your beautiful daughter Zainab with you Ibrahim" inquired Garcia. At which inform Ibrahim clicked his fingers and from behind a curtain leading to a dwell at the back of the Inn appeared the love of Garcia's life the beautiful Zainab she was the cerebrate why Garcia had not yet married the reason why he was willing to betray his King.
Garcia moved forward and embraced her in his arms reassuring her that once King Alfonso was killed and he had gained the govern he would convert the kingdom to Islam where they could live in peace as strong allies to the Almohads. Ibrahim then told Garcia that Alfonso's Cardinal Domingo Franco was already somewhere in the outskirts of Toledo converting the people to Christianity he told him that Domingo was gaining support and Islam was becoming systematically erased from the kingdom. Domingo had gained this support from the common people who believed Alfonso would deliver them from the tyranny of the Almohads who had distanced the loyalty of these people through high taxes and public executions for minor breaches of Islamic law. They sheltered him from the many assassins looking under every stone and bush and where unable to persuade the people to give him up. Several more public executions in an attempt to force the people back to Islam where only making them resent Allah and the Almohads more. Garcia then began to tell Ibrahim of Alfonso's plans to take Toledo by the end of this year and how an army was poised to lay siege at any day. He told how he had been given command of this army and would retain it until Alfonso had regained his health back. Ibrahim suggested that he would send an Emissary to Malik ibn sa'd and express him to deceive king Alfonso that he was about to lay siege to Combria with Toledo sending troops for the siege and would appear ungarrisond and an easy target for Alfonso and his men another garrison from Cordoba would then arrive during Toledo's siege and overwhelm Alfonso's army. Garcia was told to return to the army he had left at the Leon. Salamanca and Toledo borders and start to move the army towards Toledo. Velasco and his reconnaissance would be ambushed by Malik leaving them with insufficient numbers when the army from Cordoba arrived this would prove in an easy victory for the Almuhads brining the destruction of king Alfonso and his army. You will be taken as prisoner and as the new king you will accept to become Vassal where you will execute your Holy men and alter to Islam. We will then destroy the Portugese together and go al Andalusa to Allah and Islamic law.
With a nod and a shake of hands the ordain of King Alfonso his army and the Christians of Iberia was sealed. Ibrahim and his daughter left the Inn and returned to Toledo where he would arrange emissaries to be sent to Cordoba and Malik ibn Sa'd. Garcia was shown to a room by the Inn keeper where he would rest before setting off the next morning with a replenished horse to rejoin the army at the borders as the Inn keeper returned from escorting Garcia a evaluate emerged from behind a drape which was covering a recess for storing brooms and other odds and ends he approached the Inn keeper raised a clench fist and released several gold coins into the Inn keepers hands.
"There is extra there to help in keeping Domingo safe from harms way until Toledo has fallen. The King will never forget your services may God defend you and your family" The Innkeeper simply nodded and watched as the evaluate left and disappeared into the blackness outside. The next morning Garcia woke and saddled his horse and rode for the borders. He arrived to where he left the army that previous day and to his surprise he saw both Diego and Velasco stooped over a delay discussing the plans for the siege of Toledo. Upon seeing Garcia they stopped talking and walked towards him. Velesco scrolling up the plans that they had been discussing over. Garcia inquired why Velasco was still here and not away on the reconnaissance of Malik ibn Sa'd with Pedro to which Velasco replied that no traces of him where to be found and so as to not leave the army undermanned he thought it best to return to Diego and prepare to siege Toledo. Garcia now carried a concerned be on his approach and ask where Pedro was. Diego informed him that he left not long after Garcia had rode of to muster supplies but they where sure he returned to Burgos. Then Diego inquired if Garcia had managed to succeed in obtaining support from one of the villages. Garcia then began to tell of how the villages had been stripped of supplies by a large force he saw get from Toledo that was heading towards Combria and that they should displace the majority of army they had to assist King Henrique he would lead the rest to Toledo and act for Alfonso to join them and take control of the siege. Garcia suggested that two units of Dismounted mailed knights and a group of militia crossbows would be sufficient as Toledo was now poorly garrisoned and they wouldn't need to rely on supplies from one of the villages on the way. As Prince Garcia was in command they agreed and Velasco readied the forces he would take to assist King Henrique leaving Diego to accompany Prince Garcia to Toledo. Velasco had already left sight of the camp on his way to Combria. Garcia had got the army he would take to Toledo ready to move out and as he gave the signal to his men to advance Diego noticed a cloud of dust appear over a small hill they paused to see who would appear and over the brow of the hill came a formation of the kings Regal mounted bodyguards. Alfonso was leading the formation.
joining the Kings prosesion where the Royal Guards of the Court and Pedro. Upon arriving Alfonso immediately ordered the arrest of Garcia for acts of treason. Garcia could do very little as the the Royal Courts Guards rode forward and shackled his hands and secured his cater by the reigns. They then led him back to Leon where he would be tried. Alfonso took control of the army and marched them on towards Toledo telling Diego about the plans that Garcia had hatched with Ibraham to obtain Alfonso's kingdom. He told of how Pedro had eliminated the emissaries Ibrahim had sent to Cordoba and Malik preventing their plot from reaching fruition.
The evidence against Garcia was overwhelming with Pedro and the Innkeeper as witnesses to his treacherous plans with Ibrahim to overthrow King Alfonso and convert the kingdom to Islam. Garcia stood in the Court dressed in brown garbs more befitting a peasant then a Prince where he was sentenced not to death but to pay the rest of his life locked in a dungeon in the bowels of Burgos castle where a kill inscribed with "MEA CULPA" was placed above the steel door.
Alfonso arrived at Toledo later the next day and began to lay siege to the castle. With Ibrahim unaware of Garcia's arrest and incarceration believed that he would soon be supported by troops from Cordoba and it would be a matter of sitting patiently to await their arrival. But with the months dragging by and no sign of his give he began to wonder if he had been betrayed by the Prince which was ironic for he had no intentions of honoring the treacherous intend he had concocted with Garcia and would execute him if had survived the counter contend from the Cordoban troops unable to displace word from his Castle or revieve any Ibrahm had convinced himself Garcia had manifold crossed him and his daughter. Zainab (unaware of Ibrahims real intentions for Garcia) could no longer control her despair of Garcias supposedly betrayal flung herself from one of the towers of Toledo. During the first few months of the siege Velasco had managed to drive Malik ibn Sa'd into the far southern parts of Iberia where Malik would remain for sometime fighting against the Almoravids that where attempting to take control of Granada Castle. Velasco had returned to Toledo to support Alfonso but was later tasked to go back to Leon with his troops and protect the Kingdom while Alfonso and Diego with their small company of troops would be and enforce the siege.
Diego would later be known as naming Alfonso "the Sower of move" as once again just like Pamplona thunder and act clouds had developed in the skies above Toledo and come down started to fall as Ibramim sallied his troops through the castle gates. Diego who had been on watch while Alfonso and his small army lay camped on a hill sounded the arrival of Ibrahim and his men.
Diego who now rejoined the army on their left flank who had formed up on the hill with a lie of 200 odd Dismounted Mailed knights with Militia crossbows at the rear orders the crossbows to fire onto Ibrahims spears as they charge up the rise.
After successfully destroying the spearmen on Alfonso's right flank he sees Ibrahim and his loyal Cataphrat bodyguards racing up the hill towards him he prepares to meet the rush and accelerates towards the general.
Diego has moved into a position where he can flank the spearmen that are engaged with the Dismounted Knights who are losing their assay to control the enemy from advancing up the forge to the crossbows. Diego charges home andmanages to successfully route the spearmen who are now exhausted from lack of food from the siege and begins to chase them down as they continue for adjoin from the castle.
As Alfonso impacts into Ibrahim's charge the crossbow men situated on the hill have released a shower into Ibrahims bodyguards whith devastating results leaving Ibrahim bunco of men to compete in the ensuing melee
Ibrahims men severely malnutritioned from the siege gave a good contend but soon succumbed to the force of Alfonso's men the castle of Toledo was captured and the Almohads had lost a strategic foot hold on the Iberian peninsular the last few years had seen not only the fall of Pamplona and Toledo but sadly the fall of a Prince from the house of Ferdanandez.
Thankyou all for comments I appreciate them very much. I have decided to refer the four parts I have written to the AAR contest and will continue the story after the oppose has closed. I conclude if i where to act on until the closing date of the contest it would be rushed and would probably do more harm than good thanks again and good luck to all the contestants.
