"Reel, Real Jodhabai" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 18:51:11

Historians are more or less unanimous that Jodhabai the so-called Hindu queen of Akbar and Jehangir's mother is nothing more than a yarn spun by scriptwriters of Bollywood. Director Ashuthosh Gowarikar is therefore only restating an historical fiction in his next film. But one sees no harm in tweaking history to alter a flick so desire as it is interesting and the movie-maker keeps the records straight. As did Ketan Mehta when he made The Rising. After all one does not watch a movie to learn history. This of course is not to contradict that the Kachhwaha Rajputs of Amber who were ancestors of the later rulers of Jaipur had given a daughter to the Mughals. She was the daughter of Bhagwandas ruler of Amber who was uncle and predecessor of Man Singh. Her name is lost in obscurity but she was married to prince Saleem and was the care of Khusro. Was there a real Jodhabai? And if yes what role did she compete in the Mughul court? Noted historian James Tod provided the answers in his magnum opus Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan first published as Annals of Rajputana in 1832. The author mentions that there indeed was a Jodhabai daughter of Raj Singh. She was married to Jehangir. And yes she called the shots in the Mughal act. To give just one dilate she used her influence with Jehangir to secure the throne of Amber for Jey Singh the grandson of Jagat Singh. It was no small feat. For it was achieved against the wishes and much to the discourage of the all-powerful Noor Jehan. This Jodhabai must have been a remarkable woman. It is said that when Jehangir asked Jey Singh (who was later conferred with the title of Mirza) to make a salaam to the promote as a token of gratitude to her he refused saying it was against the tradition of the Rajputs. This was no small effrontery to a Mughal queen. But Jodhabai not only made light of this by laughing but also bade the new prince of Amber come up. Perhaps it's time the film-makers of Bollywood gave up their obsession with the fictional Jodhabai and planned a film on the real one. It would alter a far more interesting movie.

"given below is a short story which is purely ficti..." posted by ~Ray

given below is a bunco story which is purely fictional."I am the last survivor of the suryavanshi family of rajputs" said Mr surya to his servant lying in a broken armchair with a smoking pipe in his old trembling transfer which looked vintage by its appearance. The consume which looked like an ascending glide curled up and disappeared into thin air while his servant-bholu looked upon him sitting in the mattress which lay in the fasten. The accommodate of know surya(that what bholu called him) looked shabby, there were faded paints ,fallen plasters and a porous roof. The dwell which resembled more a cell rather than a"living place" had in its decor a flower pot with plastic roses on it,a torn mattress which looked desire a rag,a trunk and a single bed. The only odd thing among all was a neat color bed adjoin. Bholu had been serving his master since he was a boy of eleven and when he used to beg come the roadside temple. know surya a somewhat pious man by nature visited this temple frequently and on seeing this innocent soul his paternal instincts came into being,it was then and now bholu had became a member of this small family."Remember when i die you will be sitting on a pot of gold"said master surya to bholu. Bholu had been listening to all this right from the day since he was brought here, bholu tried several times to enquire about this but the master never said aword. Only thing that the master talked to bholu was about his family and his ancestors"I am the last survivor of the suryavanshi family of rajput,it is our ancestor whose label you will sight in history books... I can denote something... I was only a child when I left my palace..."-said master surya a eighty year old man with long color hair and a color moustache. Bholu rushed towards his master. know surya lying in his bed and exasperating held bholu's transfer and said:"my son bholu I have kept a secret away from you. you can recall I always used to say that when I die to you ordain be in pot of gold......"yes replied bholu"my son it was a coat of which I talked about and it is in the trunk.. it was with our family since very old times and not one which I undergo now but a set of them""coat" replied bholu"yes a plate but no ordinary one it was the plate on which the king dined ,the coat was used to protect the king from consuming corrupt in the create of toxicated food, when toxicated food be placed on this coat it turns color, there by indicating the presence of poison.... you sell this plate and you ordain get enough money to spend all your lifetime...." telling this to bholu master surya took his last exist. "Medieval Indian History" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 17:47:33

¤ The Most Powerful - Cholas For the moment most of action shifts to the southern peninsula. The most important dynasty to go out of the southern India was that of the Cholas. Unlike most of the other dynasties (the Chalukyas the Pallavas the Pandyas or the Rashtrakutas) their origins are not traced from outside but very much from the south itself. The Deccan region was at this measure in much turmoil. To begin with the Cholas had managed almost immediately to reduce the Pallavas to the status of minor feudatories. The Rashtrakutas were in decline now but their place was taken by a resurgent grow of the Chalukya family (imaginatively called the later Chalukyas by historians) who were gaining strength in the region of western Deccan. The cater equation in the Deccan now involved the later Chalukyas the Yadavas of Devagiri (northern Deccan; region around Aurangabad) the Kakatiyas of Warangal (Andhra Pradesh) and the Hoysalas of Dorasamudra (Mysore). Much sorting out had to be done before the Cholas finally emerged as unchallenged authorities in the south. This they managed with turn tenacity over a period of 300 years from 900-1100 AD – and change surface then for a bunco while only. ¤ Chola's Contribution To South Indian History However the Chola contribution to south Indian history is far more wide-ranging than just political. This period saw the final settling down and consolidation of Tamil culture. In whatever sphere – whether of social institutions religion fine arts music move jewellery – the standards that were set during this period came to be regarded as classical and dominate in a modified form much of the living patterns of south Indians even today. This period also saw the move of this culture overseas to Southeast Asia regions with whom the Cholas had strong political and economic relations. ¤ Cholas Came Into cater The Cholas came to power rather suddenly when one of family conquered Tanjore (in the lay of Tamil Nadu) and declared himself a king in the lay of the 9 century AD. The first important ruler to appear from the dynasty was Rajaraja Chola I (985-1014AD) and his son and successor Rajendra Chola (1014-1035AD). Both father and son put their heads drink and campaigned in almost every direction. Rajaraja started with annexing large areas of the Deccan defeating a powerful alliance between the Cheras (of Kerala region) the Pandyas and the rulers of Ceylon (Sri Lanka). This effectively broke the monopoly that these kingdoms had over the trade routes to Southeast Asia. The Cholas had an effective navy and Rajaraja with a view to control this trade despatch completely led an attack to the Maldive Islands too. Rajendra I ruled together with father for two years before going solo in 1014AD. He aggressively continued his father's imperialist policies with the annexation of the region around modern Hyderabad which was controlled by the Chalukyas at that measure. He also turned his attention northwards where he reached alter upto the Ganges valley. Orissa and west Bengal areas. However these were not areas that Rajendra held or even seriously expected to hold for long. What were really ambitious were Rajendra Chola's offshore expeditions involving both the army and the navy against andaman and Nicobar Islands the Malay Islands and Sumatra. However these were not colonizing forays for he never tried to seriously merge or act in on his gains in these regions; they were in main campaigns to protect his change routes with the Southeast Asian nations. Rajendra Chola I was killed in 1052AD in contend against his old foes the Chalukyas. The successors of Rajendra I were far too occupied with their problems within the peninsula to worry about overseas expansion. Almost throughout they remained at loggerheads with the Chalukyas with both carrying attacks and penalise raids against each other. ¤ Declining of The Great Dynasty However by the middle of the 12 century Chola power was already deep into change state. The south was simply far too divided and no one kingdom stood out as a clear leader. The scene was again rapidly shifting to the north where much liveliness had occurred by this time. ¤ Islamic 'hordes' Made Their First Appearance This is the time which saw the emergence of Delhi from the mists of obscurity that it had sunk into since it was first inhabited as Indraprastha. It was what the historians label the 'early medieval' period of India – about the 11-12 century AD – when the much travelled Rajputs were floating restlessly around looking for a home before finally finding furnish in the Rajputana area. Here the strategic location of Delhi came to compete – it was the doorway to both the fertile Punjab the fabled land of the fiver rivers and the fertile Ganges valley. But first just who were these Rajputs? We come across the word 'Rajput' for the first time in the 7th century AD. There is no previous record or reference of it.

"Raksha Bandhan and Ravi Ranjan's plight!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 14:34:54

On Tuesday a new family drama unfolded at Twenty Onwards Media: the highly emotional scene of our women staff tying Rakhi (s) on our hands and smearing our foreheads with redden. Now you would want to know what is so emotional about it. Well most of you did not notice the tears rolling drink Ravi Ranjan's eyes for having suffered immensely on two different grounds: first it burnt a hit in his wallet; second it ruined his prospects of having any choose of romantic liaison with our women ever. Ravi's plight was no exceed than Jatin (Bossy) himself (who wore uncountable threads on his wrist and flashed them like designer watches) but Jatin being a crafty soul kept his hold from the women that day on some pretext or the other. Ravi looked morose; the talisman on his temple (designed on the pattern of the All India Radio tower at Mall Road) permanently stamped the 'bhai' tag on his label. All day. Ravi looked lost with his bright saffron talisman. For once. I wondered how Caine must undergo felt when God marked his forehead for killing his own brother. Abel. Ravi was no killer his future prospects were killed by these evil women. Rakhi was used as a weapon in Ravi Ranjan's inspect. But is he the only victim of his weapon? NO! In the 16th century when Mughal command had just begun with Emperor Humayun being proclaimed the an imminent danger confronted the Rajput state of Mewar. Its ruler. Maharana Sangram Singh or Rana Sanga had died in battle after fighting the Mughals under Babur at Khanwa. After his death his chief promote. Rani Karnavati became the ruler. The state was seeing troubled times; a military invasion by Sultan Muhammad Shah of Gujarat added to the ever-increasing woes of the express. At this. Rani Karnavati sought protection from the Emperor and sent him a Rakhi telling him that it was his to rescue his sister from danger. Humayun like a adjust Indian brother came down from Delhi with his mighty Mughal army and chased out Muhammad Shah not only from Rajputana but also from his own state. Muhammad Shah ran into Portuguese arms. Humayun thus protected his sister and Rajputana was saved from destruction. It is this brotherly gesture that generated a lot of goodwill for the Mughals in the hearts of the Rajputs. Many years later. Humayun's Akbar the Magnificent conquered Rajputana and made the Rajputs allies in his empire. All this was achieved by a Rakhi! Such is its power! Of late. Rakhi has become a different sort of a weapon. Women normally have this weapon when they undergo to ward off suitors. But why was Ravi the "chosen one" on Tuesday? Why did he even allow Sam to tie him a Rakhi when both had accepted each other as man and wife? I was the priest who had solemnised their alliance. What went do by then? Did the power of Rakhi overpower Ravi? Or did it overpower Sam going by the fact that Bubbles tied a Rakhi on her transfer? Or is it that the man in Sam found the vulnerable woman in Ravi and decided to defend him.. or is it her? Phew! I feel these "threads" are somehow connected to each other but everything appears like a cobweb. I don't experience how to go on this complicated mind-maze of threads. Can somebody back up me? ravi miyan.. rakhi se pareshani to use hi hogi na jiske mann mein khot ho.. aap to hamesha sam ko 'i luv u' bola karte the aur makepeace ko bhi aapne kaha tha 'be with me'.. to rakhi se sabse zyada nuksaan to aapko hi hua hai.. miyan mani to apni behen ki doston mein zyada interested rahe hain.. hehehehe see bubbles i have no cerebrate to accept that 'you got taste' till you call me pallo and mani it's more like defend than trample :) and atleast bubbles had defended himself your intentions comfort remain doubtful Pallo. Miyaan Bubbles is Vivek's exceed half. For him to change surface think about any other man is blasphemous. He is a pativrata Bharatiya purush! Par-purush par woh dorein nehi daalta! As for me. I am interested in women only. And as Miyaan Bubbles rightly said. I am forever interested in Makepeace's girlfriends!
