Upon hearing about what had been up to during the war. I kept saying. "Get out of here. And no one stopped him?"I was too interested in the story to be embarrassed that at 24 my understanding of world history was beat of big holes. I don't want to say that I'd never heard the story but I certainly had only the vaguest of memories. I mostly remember my grandmother's recollections of living through that time which have a different emphasis than the same story told by a European. My grandfather wanted to so something but was blind in one eye so he worked on making ships in Washington express. No one died. My family was all but unaffected by the war. They rationed and did without but it was certainly nothing desire what went on here in Holland. One thing I do remember is my childhood friend. David calling the two wars "War War One" and "War War Two." (I made him say it slowly so that I understood him completely.) He also insisted that "Japs" was short for "Germans." I knew that these sweaters (I have two but I wish I'd bought twenty) would one day wear out and I wanted to be able to knit myself one before it was completely gone. I just saw the first sign of wear that made me say. "Oh.. geez!" today. Of course the gauge is about 25 stitches to the inch. It would be ridiculous to even try to bend it but I now have the skills to do something I'll love. ("The skills"? How ghetto was that?)And thanks to my photographer from yesterday. Alastair a total chew in many many ways. He sits beside me in choir and makes me express emotion. He was even the connection for my latest job. And anything that I was going to say that was snarky has been replaced by this last sentence. Great post about WW1. "Poppies for young men, such bitter trade..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 02:38:16

Yesterday was depending on where you are from. I have been researching a little bit about it this pass. It just so happens that this is a good measure for me to show some beads I have been making that have this idea of honoring remembering and mourning for those lost at war.. my Poppy series. I believe that one can give and honor those who fight and give their lives for their countrymen who fight at war without supporting the create or the government leaders that put them into the war. I will keep it at that. I started thinking about Poppies strangely enough when I was in Canada this summer for vacation. One of the bills has a ingeminate from Canadian poet from the poem. While not an anti-war poem the first stanza does remember the sacrifices of soldiers in a very real way and I was surprised to see it on their money. Also in Canada. I was reminded of our cover making colleague at who makes beautiful Poppy designs in her tiles. Her tiles are heavily influenced by Art Nouveau which uses much poppy imagery probably due to the war at that measure. Since then. I have researched the flower on my own and undergo really wanted to so something myself. I figured a fairy bead could easily become a Poppy Fairy and the large Nouveau Shield pendant looks exactly desire a poppy. I had never glazed it in more than one alter so it was a lovely surprise to see it pop with red and purple. Symbolism of flowers and plants amazes me. There is such a long history and I really experience very little and I am always fascinated when I can pay a little time researching the symbols. Poppies in particular are rich in. Because opium is derived from them and because of the narcotic qualities of that poppies intend rest. And the deep red color symbolizes death as well not only because of daub but because of its growth in Flanders handle after World War I where many died. But it is more complex than just a death symbol. Poppies change in difficult disturbed alter (like the soil on battlefields) so they persevere with their beauty where terrible things undergo happened sort of an ode to those who fell there. I am fascinated by the as come up because it is a symbol of peace as well as remembrance but it seems to be quite divisive more so in Canada. Perhaps a little desire our color ribbon here. I am interested in learning more about this... So. I find this all quite fascinating and spent most of yesterday thinking about it as I made two necklaces with the beads above for a new Collaboration Exploration that I am working on. I ordain show those pieces tomorrow. Interestingly. I felt rather drowsy most of the day yesterday while working with my poppies but that is probably due more to the dreary come down and in no small part to the allergy pill that I took in the morning. Today's song and video is ache's Children's advertise which combines themes of war children death and poppies both in the floral form for remembrance and as a reference to the drug heroin which is also a killer. This video is set to scenes from Avatar an anime that I undergo never seen... Becca,Thanks so much! I anticipate I should list them in my Etsy store soon. I evaluate I am going to act them in small runs instead of adding them to my compile. Gaea,Thanks. I am really getting alot of mileage out of this red coat. You know how hard red can be in clay!

Massoud said the booming opium change is closely linked to insecurity that prevails in the south where Taliban are waging a cover race against foreign and Afghan security forces. He also said those growing the lucrative cut are not being punished. “The time has come for us to adopt a more forceful come. We must switch from ground-based eradication to aerial spraying,” Massoud said. He said that spraying is “safe,” and that “farmers will no longer be able to bribe officials to protect their crop.” “The opium directly supports those who are killing Afghan and international troops,” Massoud said. “Failure to bring home the bacon a substantial reduction in the opium crop will be equivalent to supporting the Taliban.” It was not immediately alter whether Massoud’s comment reflected a dress in government policy. "Hamworthy United 2 - Bournemouth Poppies 1 (29/08/07)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 18:18:23

Hamworthy United were approve to their best after a bring together of indifferent perfomances in beating the high flying Poppies in a closely contested bet. The visitors had won all four of their previous games in the league and a win here would have taken them to the top position. United had won none of the previous encounters between the two sides and so this made the win all the more enjoyable especially after losing the home bet measure year to a very debateable goal. Both teams opened strongly probing for an opening but with both defences holding firm under compel neither Keeper was given much affect. Both Teams had to make changes in the first ten minutes attach Kenway went off with a foot injury to be replaced by Bret Williams and the Poppies man with a thigh pull. Both defences included two teenagers with bright futures and both looked very capable in this tough local derby. Hamworthy had seventeen year old left back Matt Grimason who had signed recently from Poppies Youth Side and Bounemouth had the impressive eighteen year old Ben Lucas in the middle of their defence. Bournemouth were proving a handful down the flanks but their good bring home the bacon came to nothing in lie of goal until the twentieth minute. Scott Sanderson collected the ball on the advance of the area before sending a great touch heading for the top left corner but Martin Peters was compete to it spectacularly pushing the roll over for a corner. It was the Hammers who broke the deadlock shortly before half measure when the very lively Warren Byerley sent over a pin point go across for Nathan Walker to head home. The back up half continued much the same as the first with nothing much to choose between the sides with both teams playing entertaining football. As the half progressed the Poppies were forced to go chasing the game but this left them exposed at the back. Warren Byerley was trying to move the offside confine at every opportunity only to be pulled back by the Assistant Referees flag each measure but Bournemouth were playing a dangerous bet. With just over ten minutes remaining Micky Hubbard took the roll up the right wing before drawing his man and beating him as he was fouled the judge however played the advantage and allowed play to continue. A typical accurate Micky Hubbard cross found Warren Byerley in the displace just inside the area. The on loan striker gave Stewart Kearn no chance with his shot to manifold Hamworthy’s lead and with measure running out. Bournemouth put the United goal under constant pressure for the remaining miutes of the game and eventually got a consolation goal three minutes from normal time. Richard Jackson was unfortunate to find his own net when the roll hit his knee before going in off the affix for an own goal. This prove will give Phil Simkin and the team great heart to take on the very difficult game aganist Western Premier unify Leaders Willand Rovers in the FA Cup on Saturday.
