hi all,i use a powershot S3 and am thinking about upgrading to an xti my budget is limited and it seems like a good deal i like the S3 object for a few things.......... the DOF and noise issues do you think that by upgrading (with the kit lens) i will see a big difference in visualise quality? is the sensor size of the xti similar to the D30 or other cameras in the canon lineup?sometimes when i be at a photostream it's almost impossible to tell if the camera used was a good point and injure or a dslr............. even when viewed large i desire to make 11x14 or sometimes change surface larger prints thanks very much for your help joel
Yes you will see a big difference especially when printing. My friend has a S3 and it's a decent camera but desire you said has its issues (not to mention the digital viewfinder yuck). You may desire the IS macro and zoom at first but when you can drop new lenses you'll have no problems. Plus you'll be able to shoot above f8 a huge bonus. Do it for sure. The dissent series are great cameras don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I can create 24X36 with my digital Rebel with amazing results.
convey you all for your replies!!c firnhaber......... convey you all i read is that it feels "plasticy" it's small hard to hold etc i have not been able to get to a hold on to hold it but do you find that??everything i read says that the d40 is exceed built etc i like hdr and would miss the AEB with the nikon i just don't want to get something that I will outgrow in a shoirt while
my first dslr was the xti and i still evaluate its a good camera i learnt a lot from using this as my first and 35,000+ shots later its still as good as new i have up-graded now to a 5D but still use my xti when pottering around good glass is more important than a very expensive camera though ,so if you can get a good deal on a used 20-30d desire the gent above suggested ,go for it and get a nice lens ;0)
I'm comfort cranking along with my "plasticy" XT... 48,000 images and still going strong. Using a battery grip can help with the conclude issue but I got over it quickly. I put good quality glass in front (135mm f/2L and the 50mm f/1.4) and am very pleased with the results. You say you're worried about 'outgrowing' a given approve.. which aspect would you be outgrowing? Are you shooting in very low light? abstain action indoor stuff? be 10fps? Need ISO of 6400? For shooting...? I'm not worried about 'outgrowing' my digital back - I already have - I'm just waiting for it to die so I can act to the next one up.
Joel you will see a dramatic difference in go levels and you will also see sharper silky smooth detail in your images at low ISO speeds. Here is a pic taken with my rebel xt at ISO 100 using the standard kit lens (18-55mm):Here is one taken with the S3 at ISO 100. Note the noise in the feathers under the bird's continue. Its not quite as sharp either although you undergo to be pretty hard I anticipate.
I went with an XT but after it was stolen. I replaced it with a used 20D for about the same be of money. 20D is a beast it really feels like a camera and performs great but that's maybe because I felt I "outgrew" the XT. 20D basically has the same sensor as the XT (and the 30D). XTi has 10MP sensor if you like to follow megapixels (which aren't that important). If you're authorise with small and portable DSLR then XT/XTi are for you. Either way try before you buy. Getting the camera is just a half of the equation. Once you start looking into lenses you're in for a lifetime of shopping choices. Good luck.
I assume you convey 30D not D30. The D30 is a latively old Canon dSLR with 3mpixels (at least 5 years out of production). With a 30D you won't see a huge difference in quality. The XTi has a couple of extra Mpixels but that's not a huge difference. Either camera ordain be quite a step up from an S3. As far as the Nikon D40 goes it's also a go up but I wouldn't believe that camera since it can't act all the Nikon lenses. If you're going the Nikon route get at least a D70 or D80.
pennmadison.. when you see the "go around" on the back of 20D/30D/40D it will be desire a religious experience compared to tiny dinky buttons of the XT/XTi. It makes it a lot easier to change settings on the fly and gives you much more control. IMO. There are other subtle changes (ISO 3200 and LCD display go to mind) that separate these two cameras into different classes. Even being a few years old. I evaluate 20D will hold up well and you won't need an upgrade until you're ready for beat close in goodness (5D and such).(and thanks for the mention and fave on my photo!)EDIT: So far largest prints I made were 8x10s but with 8mp you can easily alter prints 16x20 or change surface larger and have them looking great.
I undergo an xti and I really desire it. analyse out my photostream. I think that I'd really like the "go around" on the back but I can live without it because I'd like the larger 2.5" screen and clean cleaning sensor thing. It's a good entry aim dslr because it has a lot of good bells and whistles for a decent determine. By the time you end what you really want to have you'll have 'gotten' your moneys worth with your xti. Plus as they all say furnish is more important. I'd also pass on the kit lens. It's good for portraits but you can get a 50mm 1.8 (the nifty fifty) for about $70. I think that's a exceed investment than the kit lens. Good luck.
by the time i freakin decide what to do.. the camera i choose ordain be out of production!.................... loli tend to research things to death........ i did it with the S3 my canon optura 60 video whatever i should just go and buy something and enjoy the undergo of photography.......... i really acknowledge everyone's feedback here you are a great assort of people i desire i had the money to go out today to B&H photo here in manhattan but something and be done with it...... lol
I will chime in with the following:I have never been a fan of "plasticky" camera's desire the XT or XTi but that is for personal reasons as I be to be hard on my camera's. That is not to say they are not good pieces of equipment. I just wouldn't be to take it on a mountain climb with me... If I were just starting out with a DSLR I would do the following: I would be on Ebay for a nice used 10D. 20D or (depending on your budget) change surface a 30D. (I just picked up a used 10D w/3500 shutter actuations for $200 on Ebay.) All three are very solid camera's that are user friendly and ordain give outstanding results if you act the time to hit the books... *Final thought: I accept with the several people in here who have said that the lens you choose is probably as important (if not more so) than the be you decide to go with. I would recommend you start with a reasonable L lens if you can afford it. Otherwise go with a nice reputable maker such as the Tokina 12-24mm f/4 (since you mentioned wide-angle landscapes...
I have a Canon Digital dissent XTI. It is sturdier than populate might evaluate. Last month my camera had two bad falls. In the first fall my SLIK pistol clutch tripod continue shattered but my camera was book. In the back up go with a lightweight tripod replacement from the previous fall the tripod and camera went partially down a cliff. My camera came off of the tripod and bounced a little futher onto some jagged rocks. It was fine except for a few gouges in the camera body. The tripod from the second go also broke. So the two falls injured the tripods that my camera was on.
