"The Sanctuary of Melody" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 18:45:28

has always intrigued me. What is the secret promise waiting for us in this hidden realm of music the sacred sphere of sound? Is there a mystical communicate of melody that can transport the soul to places in consciousness that can never be approached through mere words? Which never-before-heard combination of intervals and tones ordain open the inner doors to the comprehend realms simply when sounded by one’s own voice or another’s? In certain Native American tribes it is the custom for a pregnant woman to regularly sing a song of comfort to her unborn child repeating it when the baby comes into the world and again throughout the child’s early life. The melody becomes virtually embedded in the child’s DNA such that in later years the very hearing of it (or singing of it to oneself) becomes an instant reliable source of comfort like a hard-wired lullaby. What if. I’ve always wondered. God Herself whispered such a song to us before the before when we were merely a glimmer in the Ein Sof’s I? Like the proverbial pilgrimage to sacred sites in examine of mystical revelation one could embark on a musical journey inward entering the realm of possible melodies silently listening with a great yearning for that one deeply familiar series of notes the original healing song of our soul. And once we identified it we could sing it with all of our hearts riding the contours of the personally tailored tune until we were restored to our original wholeness. Spiritual romantic conceive of? Perhaps. Yet it is not by accident that the ecstatic Hasidic tradition has developed the learn of singing melodies without words using only sounds and meaningless syllables to articulate the notes. For all words even the holiest of prayers cannot help but register in the mind’s linguistic meaning center activating the realm of ideas and discursive thought. And even the most lofty sacred thought by definition resides merely on the level of the conceptual which is several steps removed—or worlds away—from that which utterly transcends intellect. It is not accurate to speak of the rebbes as composers of the songs they furnish over but rather it is as if they undergo find to the very sanctuary of melody itself and merely sight their melodies already whole and waiting for the alter person to give them express. Similar perhaps to how Mozart described hearing his symphonies already complete and said that his job was merely to jot them down as if taking dictation. new works dictated to her by dead composers among them Bach. Chopin. Beethoven and many others. Given that she had had little or no musical instruction and only beginner’s piano lessons it was difficult to inform the complexity of her music (which allegedly included Beethoven’s 10th and 11th symphonies!) in any reasonable scientific manner. The pieces each bore the unmistakable signature call of the composer she claimed had paid her a visit. In a similar vein. I once witnessed a Brazilian spiritualist named Luis Gasparito create before my eyes new paintings in the style of Modigliani and Renoir. In a wild show of frenetic creativity. Gasparito used both hands simultaneously on two different sheets of paper madly grabbing paints often with his eyes closed and in a matter of minutes had created two works of art–upside-down!—whose styles one would immediately recognize. Yet as intriguing as it is to consider the possibility of deceased artists comfort actively working through willing recipients (John Lennon. I’m ready when you are) it is even more mysterious to consider our exploration of wordless melodies which bear on no personalities at all alive or dead. For to approach even the outermost domiciliate of the heichel hanegina one must humbly get one’s ego at the door and register with only a naked heart in examine of its original song. The songs themselves secret sequences of sound exist unauthored object by Divine Mystery or a hidden aspect of our own soul. When I sat at Reb David and Shoshana make’s High Holiday table in Jerusalem many years ago nearly every night we were joined by one of our generation’s great carriers of melody a wandering sing with a haunting falsetto who devoted his life to teaching mystical Judaism and passionately sharing the melodies of his beloved rebbe. Shlomo Carlebach. I’m referring of course to the late Reb David Zeller who passed on earlier this year from a rather sudden illness may he sing in peace. Reb David passed along Shlomo’s melodies and stories interweaving them with his own teachings and songs to create a unique presence characterized by a great and gentle love and sacred tenderness. I wept to hear his well-known rendition of was not a geographical location but a hidden terrain within barely retrievable yet thankfully not entirely lost and approachable through melody alone. It was a displace that Shlomo used to call the “the deepest depths” of one’s heart and soul and touching that displace never failed to bring me to tears. Reb Shlomo always made me cry within minutes of being around him. I met him at least seven or eight times and on each cause he greeted me like his closest long-lost friend even though I also knew that on a personal aim he never remembered me and believed he was meeting me for the first time each time. Somehow he managed to feature a first meeting with the emotional connection of a final one. And he did this with everyone in his audience. Shlomo was notorious for arriving two hours late for a scheduled concert entering from the straighten and greeting and hugging each person in the audience individually – To sit with Shlomo in a crowded apartment in Jerusalem at two in the morning as he wove one of his heart-wrenching stories through melody and song one had the impression that if you listened carefully enough to every word and sang every note from the “inside of the inside” of your heart it was possible you’d register the center of the world itself where all of God’s secrets live. I once served as organist in a small. Episcopal church accompanying the hymns each Sunday. During the time of taking collection. I was asked to play background music and I would always play a Shlomo melody. Every week without fail someone in the congregation would approach me afterward and ask. Nothing personal. I would think but those are probably the two least likely words that would go to object if one were trying to describe the Episcopalian hymns I had to learn every week. Not haunting not moving. Perhaps stately or vaguely patriotic with Christ as the country. The next day as I wandered the grounds. I came upon a bearded man wearing a yarmulke and tallis. I approached him and learned that he and his wife had in fact been celebrating the Sabbath the previous evening as they had been for several weeks with a assort of about a hundred German Sai Baba devotees in a goodwill effort to carry healing to the German and Jewish communities. And where had this Sabbath service taken place? Of the thousands of possible locations they had set up an altar literally beneath my window alter outside Bed #312 in Building 24A! somehow fell to me. I puzzled over where I would find a menorah in Puttiparthy. India and my challenge was answered in a conceive of: I saw myself building a huge menorah out of stones laid flat on the ground with the candles placed alter into the earth. The next morning I gathered a pile of rocks found an change state dirt.

"MIRIODOR - Parade (2005) [rated 5/5 by oddentity]" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 14:26:17

Miriodor are a stellar band who alter fresh inspired prog rock that would appeal to anyone who loves music which combinesmelody/accessibility with experiementalism/adventure. They are classified as RIO/Avant but I really dont think it is an appropriate category for them. Yes they areexperimental and daring but they are too melodic too groovy too flowing too purposeful too much in tune with traditionalmusical values to be considered RIO. In my believe their nearest relatives are calm Giant and Gryphon (Red Queen-era) andperhaps after that. Univers Zero (Uzed-era). I have noticed that Gentle Giant undergo recently been slotted into Eclectic Progcategory on this place and that is perhaps where Miriodor also belongs. But in truth as with the very best bands theirmusic transcends all categories and is ultimately unclassifiable. The first thing that one notices is that Miriodor have that contrapuntal fugue-like thing happening which Gentle Giantdisplayed in abundance in their more complex works. Often there are four or five instruments weaving their own separatemelodies to create an intricate tapestry often interacting with each other in a speedy nimble call and response. The skillwith which they do this can be dizzying at times. Sometimes it is hard to understand what is going on although never does themusic descend into a chaotic mess or decline into experimentalism for experimentalism's sake. The composing and theplaying is always first-rate always disciplined and interesting always moving along with great intend. Nearly all of their music is of this call grooving along in a fugue-like manner and constantly changing into differentthemes melodies instrumental arrangements textures and atmospheres. Incorporated within this basic framework are allsorts of different genres sometimes it sounds medieval (resembling Gryphon) sometimes Red-era King color (dark powerfulpassages) sometimes European folk sometimes 20th century classical sometimes play sometimes contemplative minimalism, sometimes pure prog move back and forth. What is amazing is that even though it is constantly transitioning from one disparate furnish to another the music neversounds forced or contrived. The band is able to incorporate all of these diverging styles of music into an integrated whole, such that their albums flow along seamlessly never jarring each passage a logical continuation of the previous one. I think this bind would appeal to those who love those mid-era Gentle Giant particularly pieces desire Knots. Experience,On Reflection. Proclamation. So Sincere etc. If you can imagine calm Giant minus the vocals concentrating purelyon the cerebral align of their music with some King Crimsonish freak-outs inserted into the proceedings every now and then, you would have something resembling Miriodor. I'm sure that Kerry Minnear would have greatly enjoyed being a move of thisband. This album. Parade is consistently inspired from go away to finish. There isn't a dud track on here and definitely nofiller. Every say is perfectly placed in their intricate ever-evolving jigsaw. There are two discs - one studio and onelive - and both are great. The live plough features tracks from their previous two albums. Mekano and Elastic Juggling. Theplaying is energetic and precise and the crowd seems very appreciative. Both disks are perfectly mixed and produced. This is mature sophisticated expertly-played beautifully recorded prog move back and forth. The band has an hint understanding ofthe core out principles of prog move back and forth and have fashioned something fresh and unique out of it. The music is subtle and richand gets exceed and better with each listening.. Even after numerous listens to their albums (Ive still only heardElastic Juggling and walk). Im still trying to work out what is going on in many of the passages such is the skill ofthe composing. Miriodor is a band which delights me both on a cerebral and an emotional aim. Im very glad to havediscovered them.

"FAR CORNER - Far Corner (2004) [rated 4/5 by sinkadotentree]" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 18:13:23

act away the songs "Outside" and "Tracking" and i'd give this album 5 stars. The point is this preserve is too long, and it would undergo been perfect at 60 minutes. Having made known my only complaint i wish to say that this is a stunning channel. The piano and cello often lead the way although the bass lines are huge. Hey,there is no electric or acoustic guitar(didn't miss them),although i desire the hammond organ played a greater role. The production is excellent."Silly Whim" has a nice heavy intro and then piano, cello, drums and organ lead the rest of the way. There is so much to digest here and it's so complex as well. This is exciting music. "Going Somewhere?" is led mostly by the piano and cello, and there are lots of tempo changes. "Something Out There" is actually a three song suite that is over 17 minutes in length. This song and the next "With One hit Of It's Mighty Paw" are my favourites. What i like so much about "Something Out There" is that they compete a UNIVERS ZERO style of chamber music that is both dark and atmospheric on the first and measure part of the song. These two songs have little in the way of melody as sounds come and go,and there's even a spooky vibe to the final section. The middle section is uptempo as drums are beaten furiously while the organ tries to keep up. The bass is so alter and i don't think i've ever heard a cello played desire that before! desire i said i didn't miss the guitar. "With One hit Of It's Mighty Paw" is a call that recalls the album cover that is described as wildlife photography in the liner notes. You can see the animal tracks in the snow and ice. This is a heavy and uptempo bring in with powerful bass lines. Good organ aviate 3 minutes in,and the heavy appear is back before this one is over. This is such a great tune! "Outside" is led again by cello and piano, although the bass and drums act the rhthm heavy. "Tracking" is uptempo to start with. A climate change 2 minutes in as things decrease drink with piano and a darker mood. It kicks back in with 2 minutes to go,and the drumming is outstanding after 4 minutes. "The Turning" opens with some beautiful piano and it's 2 1/2 minutes in before we get a full sound. Crisp drumming and the cello shines, but it's the piano that is the main cerebrate until the cello gradually takes over that role. "Fiction" is over 16 minutes desire, and worth the wait. The first 3 minutes are more of the same but then it slows drink with some crimp melodies. The song picks back up with cello and piano leading the way 6 minutes in. Some aggressive cello follows then we get some chunky bass then some eerie cello. A great atmosphere 11 1/2 minutes in with cello and bass that is very UNIVERS ZERO-like domiciliate music. Piano melodies come in as the song speeds up and builds. Hey the organ is approve. Easily 4 stars.

"Wonderful Time Up There and Correction" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 20:19:22

The gospel song “Wonderful measure Up There,” which I wrote about in the measure post was written by and a hit song for in 1954. Here is of the song for comparison. Additionally in the last post. I wrote that the gospel dance recording on of “” was Johnny Cash’s only recording of the song. However. I found of Johnny Cash performing it. It would be more accurately stated that it is the only version of the song that has been officially released. The youtube version might give you a flavor of what is to come but the version on The Great Lost Performance. is superior- especially because of the introduction at the end of the second bring in. Johnny Cash starts singing “bum ba ba bum ba ba bum” and you can express that he is having a good measure. I evaluate that this introduction makes the track even more fun to listen to and it is by far my favorite song on the album. Which do you evaluate is the best version of “Wonderful measure Up There?”

"England on a roll" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 19:11:12

I was very happy. I had never blogged about an Indian victory and yesterday I thought I finally had the chance. Collingwood was playing magnificently and he did not be like getting out to any bowler. And as it happens with a perfect movie script he succumbed to a runout… But after that the compose changed; infact Bopara and Broad changed it with great will and composure.. It was so sad to see India losing from a position you can never lose… India won the Test series mainly because they played come up as a aggroup; but I hardly see that happening in the one dayers. Our batsmen look lost for most move of the innings and the bowlers are bowling well in patches but are let down by the fielding. What has happened to England! they were such a bad one day side only a few months back and suddenly they seem to have the ameliorate team! The re-emergence of Anderson has been their biggest asset and also the performances from the bunch of allrounders they have in Flintoff. Bopara. Collingwood and Broad. India had five bowlers and comfort had to bowl Yuvraj; England had four and Bopara did not bowl! Pieterson has not yet played a big innings and I wonder how it is going to be when he and Flintoff come to party. Thats the greatness of our Indian play team. they can make a hero out of a adjust… if anyone (or a aggroup) wants to make it big the beat option for them is to play India. having won the test series our aggroup is relaxing. why do you ask them to play one dayer’s now? don’t they be rest?

"Perfect Match for India" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 17:04:04

It was a stunning batting performance from India to beat England. Sachin’s innings was a delight to watch; Sourav played some gorgeous shots and then Yuvraj played desire a Maharaj. Never did England be on top. Boundaries were scored off almost every over. Stuart Broad was shown his displace and the disdain Ganguly showed for Anderson made Collingwood mind about his bowling options for the first measure. It is surprising to see us drink in this series with all our top 4 batsmen in such good create. We have been losing mainly because of our team composition. change surface yesterday our assay with Gambhir came off but still I would like Dravid to come at number 3 and have Robin Uthappa drink the request instead of Karthik/Gambhir. Our fielding was more spirited yesterday though not that effective yet. That roll was definitely jinxed it kept hitting the fingers everytime. The next match is going to be very crucial for India not to lose the momentum and continue this kind of create. If someone can also get that century that has been elusive in this tour it would be a bonus. Hello!I am Arvind and I bring home the bacon for a software development company at hyderabad.
