Most of Easyrider was filmed in Louisiana and many of the famous scenes (including the ending) on LA 105. Today I took off in my rented Mustang to head south. This river is a deep barge river and my sources said the ferry from Melville to the east side would be closed on Saturday. Getting across the rivers in the south is a big broach. For one thing as the rivers get close to the gulf they are huge. Secondly they displace barge merchandise so any bridge needs to built to handle barge merchandise. That's why you see bridges built desire they are going up over a huge hill. Or they have to have mechanical lifts. Either way it's really expensive to create these types of bridges. I ran north on LA 105 to Simmesport. LA which is where LA 105 ends. I then jumped East across the river Athacafalaya once again and headed north to Natchez on LA 418 and LA 15.
