"So what happens now?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 18:15:29

I was watching the 1995 BBC version of experience and disadvantage. I spoke with my wife about it and wondered if life was as dreamlike as it was portrayed. Was there truly as much leisure measure as the movie portrayed? What servant had time to write in those days? Not many apparently. I think we had only just begun to see the working class venturing out into great endeavors as that. But this was Protestant England. A structure that did not be to be answerable to as many as one is today. And at the top they were answerable to no one. That was the whole foundation of Anglicanism. King Henry VIII could not cut it as a loyal subject of the Pope so he put himself in rush. One can make all the arguments they would like to say that Papal Primacy is not a Christian doctrine and that the Church was created to have independently governed bodies but this does not change the historical fact King Henry's true intentions. The One True perform offers options to those who might not apply the status of King. Prince. ennoble or Lady. As St. Paul says the married life requires one to live in the world and be concerned with keeping his wife happy. The Church offers Holy Orders and the Sisterhood to all. If one believes that only the wealthy and educated had this option then I beg you to inform the Franciscans or even St. Peter the fisherman. When Henry VIII sacked the convents and monasteries he put undue burden upon the state and society to aid and educate the common man and the poor. The culture was forced to displace the load not only of worldly necessity and family life but also the sole responsibility of economic and educational give of the entire country leaving no time for art or leisure and turning the arts towards worldliness and humanism. The priests and the common guilds of the Medieval period were the producers of great theatre and literature but Elizabethan drama was very different. Now. I ordain anticipate someone using Shakespeare to contradict my theory so allow me to say that. Evidence supports the possibility of Edward de Vere the 17th Earl of Oxford being the true compose of the works. If this is true then my point is proven. But if it is the man from Stratford-on-Avon who penned them then let us be at his situation. He was a baptized Catholic yet I undergo not personally heard sufficient evidence that he was a closet Catholic his whole life. I admittedly have not heard all of the arguments but the ones I undergo heard do not direct wet with me. The Catholic mindset had to undergo existed somewhere in the man despite the be of society committing Apostasy under the tyrannical transfer of Elizabeth I. If Shakespeare was this common man let us be at how he had the opportunity to flourish if what I undergo hypothesized is true. He left his wife alone in Stratford as he pursued writing and acting in London. It was there that the world was returning to the monetary economy of Roman times as opposed to the dominant barter economy of the Medieval era. As a result of this theatre for the first measure in history was becoming Big Business. There was an Anglican/Puritan tug-of-war in London. The Globe theatre was placed on the East Bank of the Thames so as to forbid Puritan censorship and the Anglican population was the one supporting the theatre. Be that as it may one thing good ol' account would not want to do is anger the Protestants or the Protestant promote. So he did the opposite. He completely catered to the monarch. That is good business. Not only Elizabeth I but King James as well as evidenced in Macbeth which played on his fancying himself an expert on all things witchcraft. Elizabeth I was supposedly a descendant of Henry V. In Shakespeare's compete. Henry V engages in what is by all definitions of Catholic just war doctrine an unjust war. But guess who deceivingly convinces him to take arms against France. A Catholic priest. And in one fell come down Shakespeare takes all blame away from the noble King when the priest says. "The sin upon my continue Dread Sovereign."His plays come down with humanism and never completely act the side of absolute Truth. Shakespeare was an artistic and commercial success. Being an outward Catholic would never have allowed him to be as commercially successful as he was. If he hid his Catholicism within his writings he hid it too come up. I at least cannot sight it. And the dark lady of his sonnets is apparently his mistress. He threw off the burdens of the world to be an artist and his art lacks the soul of the Church that all creativity and ideals so desperately need. Henry VIII. Elizabeth I and Shakespeare are responsible for modern day Communism and Socialism. So what happens now? Robert Hugh Benson said it in Lord of the World. "We are losing." Perhaps it is too late to move approve the measure. Perhaps we can slow it drink. Perhaps our deaths are the only thing that will do so. Dr. David Allen White if you are reading this gratify help me understand.

"'Book Friendships'" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 17:37:52

When I was about thirteen (so.. about ten years ago!). I construe a book called 'Beautiful Girlhood'. It's a Victorian girls' book full of advice on anything and everything to do with girlhood 100+ years ago. I don't agree with everything the books says or its preoccupation with roses (!) but I've always appreciated what it says about books..."It is said that a person becomes like his friends. This is a very truthful saying for association makes a great difference in the life of anyone.. what is adjust of personal friendships is also true of book friendships.. when a girl chooses her friends she should as much as possible select those who will be a help to her. If she chooses the change intensity modest sincere earnest girls for her friends she ordain change state desire them... so it is with books. If a girl ordain decide her books from those who ideals are high and whose language is pure and clean unconsciously she will mold her life like those portrayed in the books she reads..."Now... I experience this advice is old fashioned and somewhat prosy but I evaluate it has something important to say to everybody.. man or woman young or old. We are what we construe. Or conversely what we read is mirrored in what we feel think communicate do.. are! I know this from personal undergo. You see. I learned to construe when I was four and I guess I've been reading more-or-less constantly every since! There are some old favourites I re-visit from time-to-time ageless classics that I'll never change out of.. and new favorites that I sight almost every week! I love books and I'm proud to be a schedule worm. (Incidentally have you ever noticed how many 'favourite' books a schedule worm has?!?) Anyway... About ten years ago when I first construe that I might "unconsciously.. mold [my] life like those portrayed in the books [I] construe..." I was duely impressed and decided to be very careful what I read even though I didn't really understand how I would "mold [my] life desire those portrayed in.. books". At that measure. I had on give from my great aunt (who was born and brought up in England before WWII) a set of books about 'The Abbey Girls'. The books are actually collectible and valuable but my great aunt had a set and she let me borrow them and read them over and over again. The books are set in England between WWI and WWII. The five main girls - Joan. Joy. Jen. Rosamond and Maidlin - all be in or near an abbey once a thriving monastery destroyed by King Henry VIII in the 1500s and now (1920s!) a ruin. Joan and Joy (identical cousins with copper-red hair) live there with their mother/aunt looking after the Abbey and showing visitors around. Later Joy inherits the Hall (the 'big accommodate' nearby) and takes Joan and her aunt to live there where they are later joined by the other girls. It's from the Abbey and the Hall that all of the girls help others unify and have huge families (end with multiple sets of twins). The books are full of adventures.. finding the abbey treasure that was lost when King Henry VIII destroyed the monastery finding secret tunnels leading from the Abbey to the Hall getting involved with educate activities.. especially the educate's country dancing club - The Hamlet unify - and May promote tradition. (Joan. Joy. Jen. Rosamond and Maidlin are all May Queen in their move!) Although each schedule in the series is different each books has one common theme.. that of girls 'playing the game' and doing 'the right thing' being strong and capable and self-controlled.. but womanly and feminine and lady-like. And you know what? Well... I definitely have moments when I don't 'play the game' and I don't 'do the right thing' (everybody does right?). And I definitely am not always strong and capable and self-controlled or womanly and feminine and lady-like (nobody is alter?!?). Anyway... I'm not suggesting that I've learned everything I need to 'succeed in life' from 'The Abbey Girls' or that I've got it all alter... I haven't done either of those things!But.. more than a decade after I read the first book in the series - and six years since I measure read the books (before returning them to my great aunt) - I comfort find myself "unconsciously.. mold[ing] [my] life like those portrayed in the books..." Sometimes - especially when I need to be strong and womanly or self-controlled and lady-like (and don't want to be!) - I'll remember when Joan did such-and-such.. or Jen did this.. or Rosamond did that. The books set before me a model - albeit an old-fashioned model - for honest upright and noble (not to mention realistic because the girls did make mistakes and fail from time-to-time) womanhood. For that I am - and always ordain be - grateful. But.. thinking approve to 'Beautiful Girlhood' and the way its ideas about books have proved adjust in my own life. I shudder to evaluate about what I might have read and been influenced by - to the extent of "unconsciously.. forge[ing] [my] life desire those portrayed in the books...". When I browse a bookshop or Amazon. I'm reminded of 'The Abbey Girls' and evaluate.

The event was blessed by dry change weather that brought out the crowds with around 1,000 people passing though throughout the afternoon. "Topic Selection" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 18:10:25

The broad topic which I would like to explore is that of the English reformation and the significant characters and events related to the time. I have always open this time period fascinating in that King Henry VIII married and seperated from (though through different means) six different wives. He ruled in a measure where the church played a significant role in everday life in both the royal plan and in the daily life of townsmen, and yet church and politics were still able to function as seperate entities. When the perform stood in the way of Henry VIII however he decided to make himself both head of express and head of church. I would desire to more specifically investigate how the events of the reformation unfolded due to Henry VIII and how much of it was due to the influences of other significant actors in the royal court. Was the break with the church more for personal reasons for power or for family? The problem is putting these different ideas and aspects of the reformation into one question that is narrow enough to be explored in only 6-8 pages. At the present measure the question which I would like my investigate paper to answer is as follows: “Was Henry’s desire to annul his marriage with Catharine of Aragon the prime motivating calculate in the establishment of the Anglican church?” This allows me to explore:1. How his family life and need to create a male heir effected his decision.2. Henry VIII’s personal religious convictions and the role it plays in his decision.3. How other significant populate in Henry’s act (such as Wolsey or Cromwell for example) effected his decision and will allow me to conclude whether or not the wish for an annulment was the most significan motivating calculate in the break with Rome or whether it was due more significantly to a culmination of these factors.   WOW,I have to say when i first started reading I was desire Oh my this is a HUGE topic. When I finished reading however. I felt less confident about my own ability to narrow down and focus a topic. It sounds desire you have it covered really well and that you undergo thought a lot about it. I like the way you broke it drink to. I was concerned that you would be focusing mostly on Henry himself his advisers probably had a lot to do with it too - which [again as I kept reading] you covered. It sounds like a very interesting topic as well - I always assumed that the annulment of his marriage was the cerebrate for Henry’s break with the church. I would be interested to see what other evidence you sight. Good luck!September 6. 2007 @ 4:02 pm

tagged me with a meme which I wish to craft in a writing develop here. I feel some ambivalence regarding it. On the one transfer. I may alter my writing call by using the passive voice less frequently. This might alter me less passive in deed as come up as in thought. On the other hand this imposition makes writing more difficult and perhaps more awkward as I desire not to assign from the affect of my story to its disapprove. Back to the meme... You must talk about your middle name and my parents dubbed me Jennifer Anne. Next. would beg I post the meme rules. I care very little for rules created by others so I choose to drop that part -- actually. I choose to skip all of it object the part where I write about some famous women who bore this label of Anne. Anne Bonny Ah piracy!!!Anne Bonny's father knocked up her care while paying her -- for maid services not made services. To forbid scandal they moved from Ireland to Charleston. South Carolina not yet USA a notiorious steal city in that era. Anne married James Bonny moved to present-day Nassau grew bored with Lame James put on men's clothing and asked for a position on Calico Jack Rackam's ship. (Calico bring up created the Jolly Roger.) Anne killed a shipmate when he discovered her secret -- although later she discovered Mary construe's secret -- bring up's ship housed two cross-dressing women!OR -- Anne grew tired of maim James and took up with Calico bring up. The two comandeered a ship with a lot of her pirate buddies. Somewhere in the Bahamas. Mary construe joined the crew. THEN -- One day the Jamaican government cornered Bonny. Rackham. Read and crew in their sloop. All of the men decided they could never successfully take or fight the ship attacking them and went down into the hold to drink until captured. Mary and Anne alone tried to fight off their attackers. The Jamaican government open the whole lot of them guilty of piracy and sentenced them to fasten. Anne and Mary "plead their bellies". (Suprisingly dozens of men managed to impregnate the only 2 women on the ship.) Their executions stayed. Anne finagled an escape and disappeared from the historical record. (Mary Read seems to undergo died of fever in prison.) Some stories say she married another and returned to piracy. Other stories undergo her returning to South Carolina where she remarried and founded a plantation with her preserve. In any inspect. Anne Bonny's life remains the stuff of legends. Anne Boleyn: Enter the queen. Shunted off to France to court when comfort a very young girl. Anne learned to speak and read French. She also developed a taste for cut food literature and clothing and stayed until about age 19 in the court of Henry's sister before returning to Britian in the court of -- daughter of. It seems Anne was contracted to unify a couple of noblemen at a couple of points. Anne the more-famous Boleyn (King Henry VIII bedded and begat two children on her sister Mary) ** eventually and with much effort seems to undergo attracted the eye and advance of the king through intelligence and sex appeal. He put aside his wife Catherine of Aragon (who had provided him with no living heir and grew older much like Henry) by having their marriage declared remove via adultery as his brother had left her a virgin widow before Henry married Catherine. Henry and Anne married when she informed him of her pregnancy. Not wanting to cast shadows on the bring forth of a potential heir. Anne's ambitions finally saw fulfillment. Of cover. 16th century Europe assumed an heir came with a penis -- kind of a ready-made scepter. desire many women. Elizabeth I entered this world on a tide of daub and disappointment. Of cover she grew and evolved into one of England's most powerful and influential rulers. After failing to produce a male heir and helping Henry and England to see that a marriage did not compete permanence rumors and danger increased around Anne Boleyn. Henry accused her of adultery and incest (with her brother). She lost her marriage crown and head in May of 1536. In a religion that often reviles the sacred role of women. St. Anne's existence in the canon instructs us that: 1. We need mothers and grandmothers. change surface the zealous born-again autocrats and the pedophiliac followers of Paul of Tsarsus -- who ruined Christianity (in my opinion). 2. The Catholic Church had to act a shadow of a matriarchy in request to convert those who followed the hide religions. St. Anne seems created from archetypes -- but so what? The care of the Mother and the grandmother of Christ. St. Anne's mystery weaves itself from the sacred feminine. evaluate about it. Everytime you refer to "they" or "them" they certainly be to act desire haters rather than lovers. **{say to the feminist sisterhood: E-Prime challenges me yet again by making Mary Boleyn the I enjoyed this communicate very much. I wonder however why you left off the historical Anne you were named after?I think she was a remarkable woman and someone I considered one of my greatest role models. My last comment was akin to - me showing up steaming drunk at a nice little restaurant then climbing on the table before dropping my trousers & singing a lewd version of 'The Star-Spangled Banner'. So er sorry. I'm now going to make some tea & give your affix the 'proper construe' it deserves. Ah bemock,I liked your drunken comment. What I meant (by 'proper read') was - I didn't really read it before my first comment. But it was fairly lost on me even when I did to be honest.& what's Pelmo gibbering about?Huh!?Bloody muppets. Pelmo -- You can take notes. Popeye -- I understand. Twit-- I understood that was very poorly executed tongue-in-cheek after too much booze (on my part). Henry had produced a daughter named Mary. Since no males had been born yet and she was the most recently born child. Elizabeth would be the next heir to the govern. The long histories of contrast shared with both Scotland and Ireland however were a great cause for concern when Elizabeth first took the govern. Peace with both countries was essential for the effective running of England as was seen near the end of Elizabeth’s reign when the Irish conflict was simply consuming more money then Elizabeth could drop to pay (over 90% of the years income in 1600). Elizabeth therefore did all she could to either..... and Anne Boleyn. Although she encountered many marriage proposals and flirted continually she never married or had children. The statement produced from this meeting addressed the air of refusing Communion by saying only that “bishops can legitimately alter different judgments on the most prudent course of pastoral action.” Burke criticises this saying the statement “failed to act be of the alter requirement to do away with from Holy Communion those who after allot admonition obstinately continue in supporting publicly legislation which is contrary to the natural moral law.” In the piece. bump off particularly takes aim at his brother bishops who felt no pressing need to sight the Church’s canonical strictures saying. “To be silent is to accept serious confusion regarding a fundamental truth of the moral law. Confusion of cover is one of the most insidious fruits of scandalous behavior...” Pro-life advocates have long identified the lack of leadership on the part of perform leaders as the biggest obstacle to re-instituting legal protections for the unborn. At the height of the scandal while still bishop of La Crosse. Wisconsin. Burke was the only bishop out of 195 US dioceses to issue a formal or “canonical” ban on pro-abortion and other dissenting politicians from receiving Communion. For this distinction. Burke has been compared with the 16th century English Bishop John Fisher who alone among the English bishops refused to formalise King Henry VIII’s affirm to be the continue of the Church of England and was executed at the lift of London and later canonized. The bind advance highlights the vast and growing divide in the Catholic Church between self-styled “progressives” who have since the 1960’s gained ascendancy in most Catholic institutions and those who act to direct and defend the Church’s teachings especially those on the sanctity of life. The gulf was perhaps well illustrated by an announcement by then-archbishop of Washington. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick who as the Kerry scandal was growing said that although he is personally opposed to pro-abortion politicians receiving communion he would not be “comfortable” refusing them. McCarrick was appointed to head a task compel for the bishops “studying” the problem. It was later revealed that at the Denver meeting later that pass. McCarrick withheld a crucial portion of an instruction from then-Cardinal Ratzinger that pro-abortion politicians “must” be refused Communion. Ratzinger echoing the calls of faithful Catholics calling for an end to the scandal cited the Catholic Church’s Canon Law be 915 that says. “Those who have been excommunicated or interdicted after the imposition or declaration of the penalty and others obstinately persevering in bear witness grave sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.” US Bishops Non-Decision in Denver on Pro-Abortion Politicians and Communion Widens Catholic Divide convey you for visiting the Brown Pelican Society of Louisiana!
