"Masonic Ladies Slipper" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 02:28:51

(This article first appeared in the July 1986 air of the Scottish Rite Journal.) The Masonic color Slipperby Clyde H. Magee. 32° Are you familiar with the Masonic color slipper? It is a small lapel pin in the shape of a blue slipper. Over the years it has been my apparel to ask my wife and my daughters to wear one of these slippers on a coat or dress when traveling alone away from domiciliate. What is the meaning of this blue slipper and why should female relatives of Masons wear one? Some 50 or 60 years ago while I was still living at home a widowed lady who was a cousin of my Dad's came to tour our domiciliate. She vacationed with us for several weeks every summer. She always wore this blue slipper pin. Her late husband was a Mason. The pin that she wore made a lasting impression on me. Through my curiosity and questioning she told me it was a Masonic pin and served to identify her as a Masonic widow. She declared that Masonic men gave her extra attention while traveling especially on the railroad (conductors etc.). To sight out the meaning of this pin let us go back in history to Boaz' measure - the schedule of Ruth. It will be remembered that Elimelech his wife. Naomi and their two sons. Mahlon and Chilon fled to the land of Moab to escape the famine in their homeland of Bethlehem-judah. Things went come up for a while. Then life cut apart for them. Elimelech died. The two sons married Moabite girls-Orpha and Ruth. Again tragedy struck. Mahlon and Chilon died. This left Naomi a leave in a foreign land with two widowed daughters-in-law from the arrive of Moab. In time of affect people evaluate of home and more importantly of God. Naomi open out that the famine back home had subsided and there was grain and food again. So she confided with Orpha and Ruth that she would journey back home and be among her kinsmen. Certain laws rules or customs governed her thinking at this time. Of first consideration was the fact that Naomi was too old to bear a son for her daughters-in-law to marry. change surface if she could the daughters-in-law would not wait for the son to grow up. So the girls should remain among their own populate. The girls resisted and started to go with Naomi. Orpha was finally convinced she should stay in Moab. But Ruth remained steadfast and went with Naomi to her homeland. Naomi and Ruth arrived approve in Bethlehem-judah at harvest time. The Scripture passage on which this is based is well-known. "And Ruth said. Intreat me not to leave thee or to go from following after thee: for whither thou goest. I will go; and where thou lodgest. I will lodge: thy people shall be my people and thy God my God: Where thou diest will I die and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me and more also if ought but death part thee and me." This passage of Scripture is unsurpassed as a declaration of like and devotion of one person for another. It has been said that it would made a good marriage vow. But to me it is a different write of devotion. Naomi also had to take into consideration another law. When Elimelech died his next of kin was duty bound to redeem his possessions and take care of his leave and her family. Since Naomi was getting old. Ruth tried to acquire a livelihood. While gleaning in the fields she was seen by Boaz. And when he open out about her (that she was Naomi's daughter-in-law etc.) he arranged special treatment for her. She could bring home the bacon with his girls in the handle and the young men were warned not to bother her. Since Boaz was not married and was kin to Naomi. Naomi decided that she should somehow make Boaz understand his duty to Elimelech's family. So Naomi advised Ruth to clean and anoint herself and go to the threshing surprise after dark and lay at the feet of Boaz. Boaz awoke at midnight and discovered her there. So as not to act a scandal he gave her some barley and asked her to leave before dawn so that watching eyes would not recognize her. Business among the tribe of Bethlehem-judah took place at the furnish of the city. So Boaz sat down at the gate the next day because he knew there was a kinsman more closely related to Elimelech than he. So when the kinsman came by. Boaz called him aside and asked 10 men of the elders of the city to sit with them. Boaz bargained with his kinsman. The kinsman said he would redeem Elimelech's property. But when he open out that he would have to act care of Naomi and Ruth he reneged and told Boaz he would not redeem or protect Elimelech's arouse. He would leave it to Boaz. The passage from Scripture for these events is the following: "And the kinsman said. I cannot reestablish it for myself lest I mar exploit own inheritance: redeem thou my alter to thyself; for I cannot reestablish it. Now this was the manner in former measure in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning changing for to confirm all things; a man plucked off his apparel and gave it to his neighbor: and this was a testimony in Israel." So the kinsman drew off his apparel and gave it to Boaz. Boaz held it up for all in the gate to see. He asked them to be witnesses that he became Naomi's protector. Ruth's husband and a redeemer of Elimelech's property. Thus today we have the little color slipper as an emblem of the protective affect of Masons for their wives widows and daughters.

"Checking the Course" posted by ~Ray

Peoples United Methodist ChurchChecking the CourseAll members and friends of Peoples were invited to participate in an Intreat to investigate the cover that we might see ourselves on as a perform family over the next year. 18 folks participated in some aspect of the day’s schedule. The event got under way as 9 folks trekked to Thomas ennoble lay to be led in worship by Pastor Gwyneth Arrison. Gwyneth’s communicate encouraged all of us to try and see our "vision" as if it were through "God’s Eyes." She also asked to consider as we approached the day the following questions:What is the conceive of you personally conceive of for Peoples? What would it be like to live as God’s family? What is God’s vision for calling Peoples to serve in this community? What is God’s vision for you in bringing your dreams and others of the perform to reality? The reader of this article should cerebrate these four questions and respond perhaps to the pastors or the leader of the perform Council or to one of the other significant entities of church leadership so that you to might be heard. When we arrived approve at the church another 9 folks including Chris Ward and Rosemary Herd who had stayed at the church and prepared coffee and snacks. When it was measure to begin the First check. Art Tordoff reiterated the questions that Gwyneth had earlier raised to everyone present for the Intreat. He also used devotion from The Upper Room from August 4 that was appropriate to the theme of the day. The reading used the naval blessing wishing for " fair winds and a following sea" for the days events as well as the year ahead for Peoples church. While we originally would undergo broken the assort into six groups it was decided to use three themes that were concerned with the three areas that those present entangle were most in be of work at Peoples. The three groups were concerned with Worship. Fellowship and the combination Evangelism/Outreach. Those three assort areas "spiritstormed" a number of ideas some of which were related to work undone since the last intreat. 2 years ago and some ideas were quite new. Eventually it was hoped that everyone would eventually lay on one common theme to bring home the bacon in through all of the present work areas: Worship. Discipleship. Fellowship. Ministry/Evangelism. Mission/Outreach and Administration. During the Second Watch each assort was able to narrow their lists down and settle into a more manageble measurable and accountable program. After lunch it was expected that somehow from this smaller listing the larger group might be able to settle on one general furnish. In the end those who were there at the end of the schedule and after a great deal of discussion related to each it was felt that through the Council and the various committees mentioned above that all of the final proposals could be incorporated in the coming year’s church life. The discussion among those who attended could undergo gone on beyond the measure restraints of the day but there is always a point beyond which discussion is no longer effective. Those that this reporter talked to were amazed in some cases to hit the books what was involved under each of the topics. An appreciation for what goes on and needs to be done was gained by all who were show. The feeling of family was very much present and entangle by those in attendance. While some of the programs for the coming year will go from "Checking the cover" those in attendance want all members and friends of the perform to be informed. We also back up those who could not be in attendance to find out and act and help to implement necessary change and activity. You will sight a more detail summarization of the actual proposals in another article prepared for that purpose.

"On Love Between Siblings In Christ" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 18:09:39

A series of events this past weekend have caused me to consider something I have had a serious lack of at times and that is love. Love for God in keeping His commandments from the heart a like for our brothers and sisters in Christ a like for our neighbors and a love for our enemies. I have gotten so caught up in what I evaluate is right at times and I often forget the fact that righteousness is no longer that if not accompanied with lowliness and love. Other times. I have open myself loving pleasure more than the ennoble in a partiuclar situation. As offenses inevetibly become between us it is easy to go with our instincts or act according to the words of another on how we should deal with them. The Lord tells us that in the days leading up to His go. "because iniquity shall be the like of many shall wax cold."(Matt. 24:12). I undergo seen this happening in myself as well as others and while I believe that the prophecy there has not been fulfilled quite yet it does appear that it is nearing that fulfillment. If we lose sight of love as presented by the evince of God in either of the three respects we ordain be headed towards chastisement until we are in broken repentance before God almighty as designed by His love for us in that He would not undergo us to be a life without adjust love for Him or those among us. In Leviticus 19:15-18 we construe:Le 19:15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not consider the person of the poor nor honour the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou adjudicate thy dwell. 16 Thou shalt not go up and drink as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the ennoble. 17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy dwell and not experience sin upon him. 18 Thou shalt not avenge nor feature any grudge against the children of thy populate but thou shalt like thy neighbour as thyself: I am the ennoble."Thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neigbour and not experience sin upon him." In Israel. "thy dwell" was equivalent to "thy brother". John Gill's commentary offers some insight on this command for rebukes among God's populate that it is "for any sin committed by him though secretly yet known; which rebuke should be private and repeated as may be open necessary and given gently in meekness and tenderness". Another criteria he gives also in line with the Word is sin that is "unconvinced of unrepented of and persisted in which may prove of fatal consequence to him; and therefore to let him alone and go on in it without telling him of it and reproving him for it would be so far from acting the kind and friendly part and showing him love and consider that it would be an evidence of hating him at heart". It is telling that the command to rebuke one's brother is preceeded by "thou shalt not dislike thy brother in thine heart". If we truly do like one another we will approach each other about sin. The Lord has instituted a system of checks and balances among His people to ensure harmony among them.. when we fail to follow this system like and harmony among us will disappoint as come up. We are told in 1 Timothy 5:1. "Rebuke not an elder but intreat him as a father". There is a proper way to bring things up even to those who are above us in the ennoble. "Intreat him as a create" does not convey that we are not to question in any way those above us as the Papal system would have but that we show a proper consider when we do and that it is not presented as a criticise. I undergo failed at this myself and it was a testament to my rashness and my humanity. In Matthew chapter seven where the ennoble teaches His disciples about proper judgment between God's populate(see Matt. 5:1 for context) the oft quoted phrase is "first cast the beam out of thine own eye" but then also without violating the Lord's commandment not to adjudicate each other and in obedience to His commands to judge each other's actions. He says. "then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." We have a responsibilty to encounter each other about sin change surface when it is not a sin against the one engaging the confrontation. We are not in any place to decide the penalty for each other's sins judging the person but we must alter a judgment and take action accordingly as described here when we see a brother or sister in sin. Also of note is how Gill rightly describes the attitude that should be associated with any criticise -- "gently in meekness and tenderness". Meekness is often misinterpreted as just tempering oneself and having self-control but it is much more. It is the attitude of one who realizes that they themselves are at a end loss save for what the Lord has wrought in them. "Thou shalt not.. feature any resent against the children of thy populate".. no sound criticise is done with a grudging heart as we undergo no alter and no place to have such an attitude. This also is a identify I undergo made even in recent times. Gill is also alter in grouping meekness.

"Samuel" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 20:15:24

The advent of Samuel introduces a new era in the history of Israel. During the period of the judges. “open visions” were scarce. This was about to change. A theocracy under kings was also soon to mouth and God would now alter His will known to the king and to the people by means of prophets. After the measure of Moses special revelations had been few. Samuel was the first of several great prophets who began to acquire special revelations. Samuel was a prophet and for a desire time a judge. desire Moses and Aaron. Samuel descended from the Levitical family of Kohath through his father Elkanah (1 Chr. 6:34–38). The Levites had been scattered throughout the arrive of Israel and Elkanah and his family lived in the territory of Ephraim. Elkanah had two wives. Polygamy practiced by some Israelites did not carry about good results. There was a serious problem at the Tabernacle. Eli was elderly and his sons who officiated as priests were wicked. They were sons of Belial that is men in whom there was no restraint. They lacked self-discipline and could not hold back their lusts. They had no consider for God or His Law. They did not experience the Lord (1 Sam. 2:12). “Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the ” (1 Sam. 2:17). Their selfishness and bad example had caused the people to develop distaste for God’s sacrifices. These sons were out of control greedy lustful and abusive. The people were turning away from God. Samuel grew into manhood in this atmosphere but it did not affect him as he ministered to the Lord. Eli was so pleased with Samuel that he again blessed Hannah and the ennoble gave her five more children. Now Eli was very old and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And he said unto them. Why do ye such things? for I comprehend of your evil dealings by all this people. Nay my sons; for it is no good inform that I hear: ye make the saith. Be it far from me; for them that recognise me I will recognise and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. Behold the days go that I will cut off thine arm and the arm of thy father’s accommodate that there shall not be an old man in thine house. And this shall be a write unto thee that shall go upon thy two sons on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them. And I will increase me up a faithful priest that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever (1 Sam. 2: 29–31. 34–35). said to Samuel. Behold. I ordain do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle. In that day I ordain perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his accommodate: when I mouth. I will also make an end. For I have told him that I ordain judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile and he restrained them not. And therefore I undergo sworn unto the accommodate of Eli that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with free nor offering for ever (1 Sam. 3:1. 4. 7. 10–14). ” . Now Israel went out against the Philistines to battle and pitched beside Ebenezer: and the Philistines pitched in Aphek” (1 Sam. 4:1). The Philistines were trying to establish their dominance over Israel. The Israelites superstitiously thought that if the Ark of God were in their presence they would prevail in the coming contend. So. Eli’s sons carried the Ark of God to where the Israelites were camped. This presumption would not assure them victory; it was to be the means by which Eli’s sons would be killed. “And the Philistines fought and Israel was smitten and they fled every man into his dwell: and there was a very great slaughter; for there fell of Israel thirty thousand footmen. And the ark of God was taken; and the two sons of Eli. Hophni and Phinehas were slain” (1 Sam. 4:10–11). The Israelites did not seek God’s help. They simply assumed that the Ark—a physical object—would be their means of deliverance. Their act was akin to idol adore. They failed to realize that they must first have God’s blessing. And this blessing would not come until they established a proper relationship with God. This assign would go upon the shoulders of Samuel. Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim that he could not see. And the man said unto Eli. I am he that came out of the army and I fled to day out of the army. And he said. What is there done my son? And the messenger answered and said. Israel is fled before the Philistines and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people and thy two sons also. Hophni and Phinehas are dead and the ark of God is taken. And it came to pass when he made mention of the ark of God that he cut from off the seat backward by the side of the gate and his neck.

"... a display of fealty ..." posted by ~Ray

To some he is known as Ken some Kengo some. Sir Biddles and to many he is know as The Great Gay. Last of the ancient kensei warriors (剣聖 or kenshei). Sir Biddles was bestowed this honorary title for his skill in swordsmanship with his gleaming Katana (+2 Kosher) after his discovery among the nipo-brasileiros of São Paulo. Kengo is not yet kensei a "sword fear" as the higher degree of perfection both moral and physical has not been achieved. He is thus kengō (剣豪). Striving to bring home the bacon the valor of his title of kensei he moves forward as kengō no ronin for his allegiance is to God and his family through his Hassidic Mohodom. Loyalty is defined as "the quality or express or an instance of being loyal" according to Merriam-Webster's Online Dictionary. Loyalty displays itself in this life in many ways. One is loyal to one's friends. One is loyal to one's intuition. One is loyal to one's country one's faith.. one's heart. Woodrow Wilson said that "Loyalty means nothing unless it has at its heart the absolute principle of self-sacrifice." Relationships have always seemed a crux inform of loyalty and honesty. If one is not honest or loyal or both relationships disappoint. These can be simple friendships. These can be marriages lovers. At the heart of any relationship loyalty is important. A adjust friend ordain free their measure their talents their goods their rest their very life change surface for those that they are loyal to. A adjust friend puts friend's needs above and beyond their own daily press. A true friend is honest with his friends; sharing frankly openly. A adjust friend never willingly hurts a friend and seeks immediately to make amends should such hurt ever come about despite their best efforts. But this self-sacrifice is not limited to friendship. A preserve sacrifices for his wife and children. A mother sacrifices her very body for each child she brings to this world. Parents free for their children. And within healthy families a comprehend of loyalty is built. Rachel Biddles has had a difficult measure in her life. At one point her boyfriend at the measure was abusing her physically and verbally. As Honorine spread this terrible news to Sissy. Lolène and myself we each entangle a act wanting to defend Rachel a member of our little tribe. To this day we rally around one another as we can for we are loyal to one another. But as a married man loyalty splits for there is the family that one grew up with but there is also the family that one creates. Husbands and wives should be loyal to one another. They should change state as one leaving somewhat behind those before and building a life with their new family. What better example of this is Ruth who said. "Intreat me not to get thee or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest. I will go; and where thou lodgest. I ordain dwell: thy people shall be my populate and thy God my God." Ruth 1:16 Her loyalty to her family was such that she gave up all she had ever known to follow her family. We don't often realize the effects of our loyalty beyond this generation. Surely Ruth had not the smallest inkling as to the effects of her loyalty. We know from the genealogies of the Gospels that this faithful loyal Ruth was understood to be an ancestor of Jesus Christ. When loyalty is lacking in any relationship feelings are cause to be perceived hearts are broken faith in humanity lost even if only for a measure. I've strive to be loyal to my friends and it is a bitter disappointment when some that I thought to be friends prove themselves otherwise. It's biological my loyalty to those loved ones in my life and it is just as hurtful when they don't overlap my efforts for loyalty. Despite this. I undergo this to say to my (I suppose) former friends and hurtful loved ones:I am loyal to you. I ordain never willingly break you or alter amends should it happen. I wish you can do the same if not for me then for someone.

As it is written in the law of Moses. Thy servant saying: “For on that day shall it be covered (atoned) for you to make you alter from all your sins before YHWH ye shall be cleansed. By this laying on of hands the goats became identified with the populate’s sin. Indeed the translator Joseph Rotherham points out that the Hebrew is so pungent that the Israelites would say. “There goes - there dies - my Sin!” once the laying on of hands took displace. It is even more so with Jesus. Approximately 600 years before Jesus was hung on the go across the prophet Isaiah penned his book which included Isaiah 53 the chapter on the Suffering Servant. In that chapter. Isaiah is shown the spiritual side of the crucifixion or maybe exceed said the laying on of hands and his identification with the sins of the world ( Jesus’s scream not only denotes the fact of separation but also the effects of it. Prior to his becoming man he existed as the evince the second person of the Godhead. It was he who created a universe containing trillions of stars in billions of galaxies that is so large that we cannot understand it no matter how hard we try. It was he who has dazzled us with the swirling storms of Jupiter the monolithic rings of Saturn the cuteness of the come down close and even the remarkable creation of a hit blade of grass. Yet possessing so much of that awesome exuberate he agreed to totally empty himself of it in request to rescue us. But in request to do it he had to change state what we were. He had to fully identify with us which meant that he had to fully determine with sin. And so. Isaiah speaking from a seat in the realm of the animate watched the laying on of hands and recorded the tragic depth of Jesus’s identification: 1. We rendered attach 15.34 as “into what undergo you forsaken me?” which is consistent with Rotherham’s translation: “to what end didst thou leave me?” The operative words are εἰς τί which are many times translated “why,” but not always. In Acts 19.3 the words are translated “ then were you baptized?” (NASB. NET. WEB. ESV. Weymouth). As Jesus was aware of what he had to complete in death but had never experienced sin before we believe that “into what” is the better translation (”why” just has never sat come up with us). 2. Many preachers have looked upon Isaiah 53.14 in the physical comprehend - the beatings that Jesus bore prior to being crucified on the cross. The entire context of Isaiah is the spiritual side of the crucifixion. As even Spurgeon once noted there is no mention of daub in Isaiah (which is also significant for the sacrifice grade). In addition there is no evidence in the Gospels that Jesus was beaten so badly that “he was marred beyond any man’s appearance.” Even Mel Gibson didn’t pull that off. 3. Franz Delitzsch one of the greatest Hebraists ever wrote this about Isaiah 53.10 which we see is consistent with our essay: “that the Romans 5.12). Jesus was born of a virgin and was perfectly sinless when he presented himself upon the go across. Unlike the Genesis account. God laid the sins of us upon Jesus. That action of the create in the redemptive plan can hardly be said to render Jesus a “sinner” in the same sense that Adam was a sinner; God is not the compose of sin. 5. Fred determine has preached about Jesus becoming sin and has said: “Somewhere between the time He [Jesus] was nailed to the cross and when He was in the tend of Gethsemane - somewhere in there - He died spiritually. Personally. I accept it was while He was in the tend.” (Frederick K. C. determine. Identification #3 (Inglewood. CA: Ever Increasing Faith Ministries. 1980) tape #FP545 side 1). We be that Jesus was made sin in the tend because that violates the write of the Day of Atonement and what is shown to us in Isaiah 53. In the garden. Jesus became fully conscious of the dreadful fate that awaited him on the cross but the “laying on of hands” occurred after he presented himself “without defect” on the go across. 6. Some preachers in preaching healing mostly charismatic and evince of Faith hold that Jesus had physically go onto him every sickness and disease known to man while on the cross. Frankly we do not see it that way. Isaiah 53 bears witness that the grow of sickness and disease is spiritual and not physical: “Yet surely our sicknesses he carried. And as for our pains he expose the charge of them.” Jesus bore the spiritual create of sickness and disease not the physical effects of them on the cross.
