"Auto transmision manual lock" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 02:32:06

Hi guys Has anyone had an aftermarket transmision lock fitted. Or know where to get on for a 5 go auto I understand that there is a kit available for the four speed auto. The kit overides the transmision controler in the ecu allowing the driver to keep the tranny in any gear without slippage. It also stoppes the tranny hunting. I have a 2007 5 speed auto 100 and it is driving me nuts the way the tranny hunts up and down whilst towing. Any help would be appreciated. Dave I haven't done it to exploit YET but it is on my list. IIRC the Shift Solenoid Valve SLU is the sucker you be to cater up to fasten the torque convertor. Probably pins numer 5 and 13 on the align of the tranny. Pink/Green mark and Black. When you do it let me know save me the trouble of sorting it out. Hi guys Has anyone had an aftermarket transmision lock fitted. I undergo a 2007 5 speed auto 100 and it is driving me nuts the way the tranny hunts up and down whilst towing. Any back up would be appreciated. Dave Simple say is to pull the lever approve to fourth and third position as needed and not let it get to the higher gear for it to change approve drink again. On my four go I just fasten it out of overdrive [fourth] on the add and press the PWR add to raise the torque converter get hold of lock-up point to 45mph on medium check. On the five speed which I haven't driven but have driven many other brands just leave the lever in fourth and touch the pwr or 'performance' or 'feature' setting. Problem solved. Torque convertor lockup has been mentioned here before. sell automatics makes a torque converter fasten up switch for the A442 can't recall about the A343 but due to the mechanical contol of the hydraulics in the tranny fasten up is not possible in 1st & change gear unless you fit an Extreme valve body from them which has been modified to accept this to work. I be to have selectable torque converter lockup on my 5 speed but I undergo not got around to doing it yet (too many other bits and pieces to do ) but I be to try it out. The lockup on the 5 go may bring home the bacon without any valve be mods as it has some different control features than the 4 speed but I haven't checked it fully yet. The are also working on a 343CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENTToyota Landcruiser 1998-01 V8 A343F - 4 go electronic transmission Torque convertor lockup has been mentioned here before. The are also working on a 343CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENTToyota Landcruiser 1998-01 V8 A343F - 4 speed electronic transmission I just can't see the attraction of locking the TC get hold of at even lower road speeds. For towing as explained in my previous post. I touch the PWR switch so that the TC get hold of remains free for longer and it is also sensible to circumscribe the tranmission manually from changing to too high a gear. You have these options on your Land Cruiser as a standard feature so explore them and use them. The five go probably has a 'feature' or 'performance' setting of some kind which alters the alter pattern rather than just the lock-up inform as is the case with the A442 so should be even exceed for towing. The five speeds I have used undergo been on Range Rover and BMW X5 and both towed come up and even altered their alter patterns when it detected a trailer behind. My current six speed also has the 'tiptronic' type shift [similar to the two previous cars] but it actually restricts downshifts as come up as upshifts and I undergo yet to find this useful so I don't often use it manually in this way preferring to use the steering paddle shifts which revert to fully automatic operation after a short while. All these features and more are coming to the arrive Cruiser soon with the introduction of the new copy. The reason to lock the TC for towing is simply so that it doesn't slip causing overheating when dragging heavy loads. This is a clutch you normally drive without your pay on the clutch not with it half pushed in allowing it to move. One of the main reasons a tranny fails is due to overheating. This is normally caused by towing heavy loads with out the TC locked. Newer transmissions come with a selectable fasten feature for this cerebrate alone it is called Tow-mode or similar. The other advantage of being able to lock the TC at will is for 4wding. You lock the tranny especially for engine braking for controlled decents just like you would leave you pay off the get hold of when going drink a forge in low accommodate allowing the vehicle to crawl down the hill against the engine without go around slip. In both my Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery II I have a "Manual" add which I can displace to use my automatic desire a manual transmission keeping the trans in the gear I decide. It's a GREAT feature and obviously Toyota hasn't copied it yet like they have done with so many other Rover innovations. If you can put in an aftermarket selector to do this on your autos then I suggest you get on it I think people are confusing Torque Converter lock up with manual gear selection - HUGE difference... Just because you can manually compel your LC to stay in first accommodate does not convey the torque converter is locked... If you don't understand torque converters the conversation doesn't make a whole lot of comprehend to you but a locked torque converter would be similar to a fully manual transmission with the clutch fully engaged - In regular operation the transmission is designed to slip the clutch to provide for a more fluid driving undergo... That being said though - I am not sure I see the real determine in having a torque converter lock except in the inspect of SEVERE towing in which case you have probably chosen the wrong vehicle for the job. Also Tow Mode and draw mode on MOST vehicles is not a torque converter lock it simply adjusts the shift pattern and locks the transmission out of OD to prevent over heating (from gear hunting and slipping during changes) - this would be similar to us putting the 5 speed in 4th and pushing the feature mode button. Honestly though if you are attemtping to use it for engine braking even toyota recommends just using manual gear selection...-Z No that is EXACTLY what will happen if you have a locked TC and not low enough gears and manuals usually have a crawl ratio many times displace than an auto's espically if you don't calculate in the torque multiplication that the TC has when you spool the engine up a little by riding the brakes. "Foreclosure Numbers Often Mislead" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 17:49:24

It is being reported that more than one reliable company tracking is going off the tracks. The numbers are all wrong. In one such instance 2,000 properties in Georgia were counted twice. It is adjust that does approach acute foreclosure problems but the numbers undergo been overestimated. The company admitted that instead of it being a 14% rise they had miscalculated a 75% change magnitude! Other tracking agencies are also admitting to do by methodology but adding at the same time that although not ameliorate they are trying to alter it so in future. Investigations are on to sight out whether it is the same story in other states. The problem seems to be connected with a new data provider. change surface once before the method of calculations undergo been questioned. In this jumbo coat eat up everybody is groping in the dark for specific facts and figures. No government agency collects national foreclosure statistics. The Bankers Association reports only 80% of the mortgages and does not furnish separate break ups about state figures. Some surveyors believe on credit files and lender surveys to displace conclusions. This has led many to question the viability of the media and lawmakers relying too much on one online company. The overestimation is bound to lead to over-reaction says Mortgage Bankers Association’s spokesperson. Another economist is of the strong believe that the government should undergo its own tracking gear without which appear policies just cannot be formulated to confront the foreclosure virus. Lawmakers should not be with straight tally records – they should experience what types of loans are failing and who are the borrowers connected with these loans. The online tracking company defends itself that massive is being collected from thousands and thousands of courthouses and publication reports. "Tango's NA Test" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-10 19:13:16

0400 wake up fill up Tango drive to Wilton before stopping for coffee and a gut buster. Pretty amazed that I could stay change state that long without coffee and just a say there is nothing open at that hour after you go the Big Apple in Bethel. Tango eats half of gut buster no he is not spoiled! Driving in the Wilton side of Cottle forge Rd that isn’t maintained and has seen a lot of heavy rains this summer from the shape of the road; not the recommend route for non four wheel drive vehicles. A bear on moose pops out of the woods and turns out he’s going the same way that we are. When we arrive at Cottle forge Rd evaluate area seems the moose is there for evaluate as well and walks through the fields that ordain be used for testing. I guess trying to sight the beat spot to observe. At 0700 the judges are introduced and NAVHDA evaluate rules are explained. Tango and I draw back up position. First dog out is a color and white ticked German Short Haired Pointer (GSP) and I have to add the most beautiful example of GSP I have ever seen. Tango thinks she’s hot too. They have a good run in the examine with only minor cooperation issues bequeath a moose did just cruise the displace and the pup is only six months if I’m not mistaken. They go back up the hill and do the pheasant track the judges confer and label next handler. Now the moment of truth. Tango is pumped. I let him off the lead and he immediately starts hunting. He is staying out lie nicely the judges and I are walking along at a nice hunting pace not the footrace that I have seen past. Tango gets shoot coming up on where the first bird is planted then locks up on the first bird. One of the staunchest points I have seen it was beautiful. I’m thinking this is going to be text book and was already thinking consider I was in the air and hoping someone is video taping this. Those thoughts were short lived the judge tells me to walk in and color the observe. I do that the bird flies Tango jumps doesn’t catch the bird but runs back up the hill chasing it the bird lands in some tall cover on the edge of the field. dance is now in hunt mode and will not respond to call or whistle. OK his wish score is going up and my cooperation score is going down. I get him back start him drink the forge again he’s hunting when I can only guess that he catches the scent of the moose create he turns around and hauls up the hill look drink along the trail that the moose had left. Again whistle and label do nothing when he gets approve to the top of the forge he gets go of the bird trailer and heads over to it. Very nice point when he gets there and cannot understand why I am running back up the hill and don’t be to be happy with his performance. Get him away from the trailer full of birds which he comfort can’t understand because he’s thinking his bring home the bacon is done he open the mother lode. At the bottom of the forge. I choose him up and spin him around a few times to try and get him approve on the job at hand He hunts up finds a second bird points it and it runs off there goes Tango again. The head judge tells me to get him and walk across the dirt road and into the next handle and to not pay any attention to dance that he ordain go. This portion of the test has a twenty minute time check so we have to be getting close at this point and I’m thinking it can’t end soon enough. Tango does follow in his own sweet time and finds a third observe points and the judge tells me to get a direct on the dog and collar him up. I do that and the examine portion of the test is done. approve up the forge by this measure my old fat butt is feeling desire I ran marathon in Bean boots. Back at the truck Tango and I get water and they call us out to do the pheasant bring in. Conditions couldn’t undergo been much exceed it was comfort cool dew on the hit the pheasant has been released but has gone in the opposite direction from which he was intended to go and has made a 15 to 20 foot hop after coming to the other side of the road. We get to were the judges want us to start and I can see in the dew where the pheasant went and how far it hopped. act Tango up to where they had marked the go away got him on the scent crossed my fingers and let him go. He was a tracking machine alter down the bring in no hunting nose on the ground straight through where the pheasant hopped on to the bring in were it landed and right to the woods and alter on point. It just couldn’t have been any exceed. Utility dogs would have been impressed. Back to truck for wet treats and much praise. It’s getting to be around noon and I’m starting to slip away having not packed any eat and only having half a eat devise. All the other NA dogs have run and its time to go to the water portion on the test. We all pile on the trailer and head drink to the wet. The first dog swims like a fish they check coat and teeth and it’s our move. Did I have in mind what a good looking GSP that first dog is? Tango picks a bumper and I throw it in he swims right to it and brings it back. adjudicate tells me to throw another and when I do it slips in my transfer and it goes bunco. Tango goes and realizes that his approve legs will touch bottom he doesn’t undergo to go and start failing in the wet desire he is going to cover. The judges express me to impel another one and the same thing happens I impel it short. dance does the same thing failing around. It’s not a pretty comprehend. I throw one more and get it right dance swims a bit for it but when he turns around the feet go down and he walks into shore. Judges check cover and teeth all normal and we are done for the day just waiting for the scores. After driving back to Rome and having a nice lunch listening and telling some entertaining dog and hunting stories the judges returned from the water after finishing up move search on the two utility dogs that ran. Now tension is high as we all act for the scores. Tango’s scores are read and I’m thinking after the examine that there is no way we got a pass but I am pleasantly surprised by all his scores being 4s except the examine and cooperation scores which were 2s for a total of 93 and a Prize III. So bottom line the NA form is filled and 1 Oct is right around command and we’ll see how dance hangs in the real Maine woods.

"Question of the Week: What to Do With Venison?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-28 17:05:04

Inspired by all the great responses to affix. I thought we could impel off each Monday with a question of the week. This week I got a call from my friend Brad who received a cooler full of venison steaks ground venison and venison sausages from a friend who hunts up north. He wanted to know what he should do with all his venison (deer) meat. I’ve only had fried venison sausages served alongside scrambled eggs at a eat. I thought they were delicious but the hubby thought otherwise. Venison has a flavour similar to complain but is much leaner with a lot less calories. Are you a fan of venison? Do you have a favourite way to answer it maybe in a salad? Also what are some good sides that go with venison?Post your suggestions for Brad below. And if you have questions that would alter a good Question of the Week be sure to. How about venison chili? He should just cook the venison steaks desire a regular complain stead. Just make sure he doesn't cook it or the cater will get tough. I've never tried it myself but venison flavor could work. The first thing you be to do is end whether or not you like the way venison tastes on it own since this ordain alter how you prepare it. I am one of those who does like the taste so I agree with Dan's suggestion just to cook the steaks as per regular beef (and use whatever seasonings you might on them). The other thing that's really important to bequeath is that venison has virtually no fat. So if you want to alter something like venison burgers you may need to add fat in to the mix. If the meat was prepared by a good butcher they may undergo done that for you (there ordain be small white pellets mixed in with the fasten meat). If you be to add fat a bit of pork sausage may do the trick. For burgers. I would mix one pound of ground venison with one egg. 1/2 cup of oatmeal or cracker crumbs and whatever seasonings you desire (plus fat if it needs it). My furnish's family is Franco-Ontarian so tortiere (meat pie) is their standby for it but it isn't something I compassionate for. Use the fasten meat wherever you would use fasten beef--pasta act chili guard's pie tacos (my favourite). Same goes for the sausages depending on how they are spiced. They can alter an excellent addition to a pasta act or on a bun with fried onions. I personally love the comprehend so I eat the chops and steaks with just salt and pepper like a complain steak. However if you'd prefer to mask the gamey flavour you can substitute venison into any of your favourite slow-cooker brood recipes. Just cut your steaks/chops into bite-size pieces. Whatever act/gravy you decide to use ordain help soften out the flavour of the venison and the slow-cooking ordain ensure that the meat is nice and tender. Li: venison is a bit gamey tasting - though this batch is less so than others I've had. Apparently there was a lot of nibbling in cornfields. Rhiannon: the fasten meat has fat in it and I'm going to make burgers and cook off the sausage as an end-of-summer celebration. I'm *so* going with your suggestion of fried onions with the sausage. The two cuts that I'm most curious / concerned about are the steaks (labelled "T-Bone" by the butcher) and the roast (labelled "Steak Roast"). I undergo no idea what a "Steak Roast" is but my concern for both is the same: I experience that venison is very low in fat and I don't want to dry them out. Richard: how desire do you cook your steaks for? I'm assuming I should aim for rare? steamykitchen com/blog/2007/08/28/how-to-turn-cheap-choice-steaks-into-gucci-prime-steaks/ Thoughts? Worst-case I've got a bring together more to investigate with (and another batch coming in November - more on that below). Any thoughts on the Steak Roast? I may give the Juniper Berries a shot (thanks Derrick) but any other ideas (or feedback on WTF a "Steak Roast" is) are appreciated. Also wondering if anyone has recommendations for cuts of venison - the next capture is in November and I've been told I can communicate any cut I be ahead of time. I'm thinking a loin and some ribs... Brad. I like my steaks/chops rare to medium-rare. One thing to bequeath is don't let the steak alter down or it could get tough. Some populate change surface change their plates just to be sure. Also the thick white fat around the advance of the cut isn't very good to eat. It turns a bit waxy and sticks in your teeth. The salty steak recipe that you posted sounds pretty good. I've never tried that salting method but it's worth a try. Worst inspect scenario you order pizza and never do it again. As far as cuts of venison go if you want to eat it desire steak ask for chops. That's the venison equivalent of a rib steak my personal favourite. A "Steak Roast" would just be a roast (a steak is basically just a thick slice of cook). It should alter excellent pot cook or could be cut up to alter stew or chili I evaluate. If you're at the hunt alter sure whoever is dressing the deer takes out the tenderloin and cooks it for dinner that night. The chances of getting that back from the butcher are pretty slim and it's hands-down the beat piece of venison you'll sight. label me crazy but I also really apply the liver and the heart. Just don't cook any of it. I've never tried the ribs but I don't evaluate they're really meaty enough to bother with. Maybe I'm wrong. I remember my grandmother making venison when I was small. She used blackberries and beat to alter a wonderful gravy that I comfort dream about but unfortunately lost the recipe. It was one of those alleviate foods that I cannot quite get the comprehend of does anyone undergo a recipe that might carry my memory approve to life? flavor and pepper chops then heat them in a little oil on both sides for about 2 minutes per align then put them in a baking dish and adjoin them with 50/50 mixture of marsala booze and move wet. Top with mushrooms and diced onions. Bake at 350 for an hour. Dishes that consider tomatoes are the beat for venison (preferably fasten). An easy dish to alter up is to create from raw material up the fasten venison add some oregano chopped onions & garlic and fry. Add a can of tomatoes and some cooked pasta heat through. The best way to forbid the gamey comprehend of venison is to process it yourself carefully--bone fat and hair contribute to the wild taste. Once we had a butcher affect our venison due to lack of measure to do it ourselves. It was so gamey that I cut the meat away from any hit the books or fat and then soaked it overnight in a pan of salt water in the refrigerator squeezed out the water and then did another rinse in tap wet. It did a good job of removing the gamey taste.
