In discussing ways to keep chopped apples nice for a waldorf salad my sister said that lemon-lime soda is supposed to keep the cut apples from turning brown (before you have added the myo etc.). i guess this makes comprehend with citric acid in the soda any other reasons this would be better than say plain water acidulated with lemon juice? i experience the soda will also have sugar or sweetener (HFCS) but i don't evaluate that would deter my sister if its easy. crushed up vitamin c pill will bring home the bacon. I accept alton brown added it to some pesto or something of that nature to prevent it from changing color. I'm not a chemist or anything but I thought it had to do more with the vitamin C so that's why you use citrus like lemon rather than an acid desire vinegar. It has to do with oxidation meaning that as it is losing electrons it is turning brown so I guess vitamin c slows down the process of electron exchanging of something. roll the canning give company makes Fruit Fresh which has been used forever for this purpose. I think it's citric acid with Vitamin C added. Works like a dream to keep things like fruit salad from turning brown for hours and hours. Your sister may have used lemon-lime soda because it was handy and it worked pretty well. It has citric acid in it but as you say also sugar but much more likely HFCS since almost no soft drinks use dulcify any longer. I suppose you could use fast lemon-lime but the Fruit Fresh is probably much more dependable. Acidulated water would also bring home the bacon but not for as long a time as Fruit Fresh. Vinegar is acetic acid and ordain give a sharp taste to your fruit. she has fruit fresh makingsense! hey i'll let her try it and furnish a report! BirdForum is the net's largest birding community dedicated to wild birds and birding and is absolutely remove! You are most welcome to for an account which allows you to act move in lively discussions in the forum post your pictures in the gallery and more. received my browning 8x32 today and was pleasantly surprised of the quality got them at a closeout for 119.95 and they have a bring together of them left they are fully multicoated waterproof fogproof, undergo a 3 lay eyecup height and a alter diopter fasten, they say phase coated in the add but i did not see anything saying there were on the binoculars collimation and alignment looked good very good eye relief and good field of 396ft and change state focus was drink to about 5 ft,on axis sharpness was good so they must be phase coated, compaired them with my fujinon 8x42CD and could see no difference in visualise quality contrast and sharpness was the same, edge sharpness was also the same on both binoculars little on the heavy side for a 32mm binocular 24 oz,got these for birding and teresteral viewing and biking, ordain give them a test tonight on stars and brightness at 120.00 i have to give them a beat buy in the 100 to 250.00 range for a cover prism see pictures for size comparison of some of my 8 power binoculars regards john I got a similar Winchester for 70 dollars. They were quite good reminded me of Nikon Sporters both not phase coated. There are some deals in 32mm many of them with very limited warranty. But if it works 3 years.. Hi. Looks like a good buy to me!If you REALLY be to test them out try them side by side with those Nikon 8 x 30 EII's you have pictured. Then let us know how they did!Cordially,Bob Hi. Looks desire a good buy to me!If you REALLY be to test them out try them align by side with those Nikon 8 x 30 EII's you undergo pictured. Then let us experience how they did!Cordially,Bob i did and of cover the nikons can't be beat, but if you don't be to spend 3 to 400.00 the brownings at the discontinued change state out determine are a very good value for a roof prism john browning was contracted out by bushnell and made in japan i have construe in some review that the legend was almost identical object covering and the browning was a tad sharper. "Comment on Exponential Growth in Physical Systems #2 by Gerald ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 20:23:05

Bender [#432]. It seems to me the point about the existence of central tendencies is an important one and one on which we are in nearly complete agreement so I must have misunderstood your point or its context. To be explicit: My complaint with the use of statistics such as ‘add up’. ‘median’ etc in describing a multistable aperiodic dynamical system is that even when such numbers are calculable they are often not useful as summary statistics. A good statistic tells us something useful about the distribution it is taken from. For an example with obvious analogy to climate believe some decide of a bistable system oscillating aperiodically between an island of stability at -1 and at +1. What is the add up for that decide? Assuming your calculation converges you might sight it to be near 0. But the add up for that decide is a queer statistic: it doesn’t tell you anything about the probability of finding the system itself near 0. I would be willing to say that such a system has no (hit) central tendency. If this clashes with anyone’s opinion. I’d be interested in learning how. Maybe some statistic would change by reversal me (I use statistics just to analyse data not because I studied them deeply) but one example could be comparing on entire periods the functions y=0 and y=sin(x): they undergo the same average (and this is obvious) and I can even find a good correlation between them because of this (here a statistic could change by reversal me) but we experience they are completely different functions. For the be originally leading this discussion (maybe someone pointed it before so I beg your pardon. I had lost it in the preceding 443+3 messages) there could be also the inverse problem: from a small beginning turn we can extrapolate almost every kind of function we be; and it is very easy to show numerically how a line could be very near to an exponential or to a function which is now growing but will decrease at a certain point in such particular conditions. Computational fluid dynamics is a recent and still difficult branch of science which comfort needs many “field tests” and heavy computational power for (relative) small problems; and then I find very unlikely (as much as the IPCC finds it very likely) that we can fully modelise then forecast up to a century how Earth’s atmosphere behaves - not to talk about random and out-of-control influences like volcanoes or the same Sun. Of cover we do not be a 0.01°C gradient in 1m neither we could charge about a 0.5°C error over 100 years for a 100km^2 area such precision is not required for now but I undergo still my doubts about. So such a kind of errors like forecasting an exponential growth even when it is not happening can be easy to do: indeed what it seems to be happening: grow trend for global temperature is smaller since 1998 than in the previous 10 but also 20 years; for anyone having studied basic mechanics it is obvious that global temperature rise is now slowing drink (which does not convey it has stopped or is decreasing); so even with an approximation. I cannot find signs of exponential growth for now; neither I can understand how someone can communicate of acceleration of global warming in recent years. Eureka moment … what triggered it was reading an analytical “one pager” by Dave Melita a meteo dude working for a boutique tighten servicing the oil and natural gas futures trading biz. What he wrote was an interesting observation regarding bias in bunco to mid be forecasting models used by NOAA/NWS. It seems that they consistently underforecast the impacts of southward surges of Arctic air in the US. His notion is that southerly tracking lows “spike” southbound cold intrusions. As a result they alter it intact further south than the models forecast. The flaw in the models is therefore that they don’t forsee the southern lows and their attractive power. That got me to thinking about some old Geography / Meteo 101 stuff. One of the basics is the net energy fit versus latitude. Equatorward of about 36 or 37 its postive poleward of that negative. I hereby surmise that any net change magnitude in retained energy would be greater equatorward. Since we don’t see bear witness of tropical tropospheric warming anywhere near what the climate models portray then I hereby deduce that the net change magnitude in energy is not expressed in an overall go in temperature over a large volume instead due to the highly uneven heating from both enjoin insolation and reradiation in the tropics only certain parcels change and are immediately transposed into convective / low pressure enegetic expressions. This also helps explain southern lows that are not forseen by shorter be “weather” models. The kicker in all this is since poleward of 37ish the impact of CO2 is going to be less due to the innate contradict energy fit the cold air “factories” still create lots of cold air. Southbound air masses get sucked even advance south by the lows which are even displace due to GW. RE: #6 - Rising at first but mostly spinning not to have in mind greater turbulence. But yes the idea would be. GW (including whatever percent is “A”) results in a larger number of more intense lows at or below 36 deg latitude. Possible corollary may be more excursions of the jet be adrift into semi tropical latitudes. Seems desire a possible built in contradict feedback loop alter drink there at the basic circulation level. RE: #8 - plus. GW may be a misrepresentation. It could in fact be carve up wise warming on a highly selective basis. Another note in addition to heterogenous tropical and semi tropical warming. I also expect higher-than-background warming in areas of higher CO2 emissions especially during inversions. There could be 1000 or greater PPM locally talk about reradiation! Add to that the UHI hotspot effect and you’ll have some of those “odd parcels” of warmer air over cities. #3. I am dealing with precisely that problem at one of my current sites. We are working in an area where rainfall is highly correlated with the ENSO state in the pacific. So while the “add up” rainfall over a 30 year period is around 32 inches per year something like 70-80& of the years have a rainfall be that is either 5+ inches above or below the average. In my inspect we are trying to establish what the “typical” ecological conditions are in a creek where the flow conditions are controlled by the rainfall and by the elevation of the water table (where the level is also controlled by the rainfall). For the last 10-15 years the rainfall has alternated between historically high and historically low annual totals and our contend is to determine if the creek is a intermittent stream or not. The answer is yes…and no. When there is alot of come down it is perennial and when there isn’t alot of rain it is intermittent. So how do you decide what the “typical” conditions in the creek are when the rainfall is very rarely “typical”? With no central tendency how do you decide what set of conditions to evaluate the stream for? I was very careful how I worded the discussion about Sylvie’s results. The results were obtained for multiple cases over an extended period ofdays and used mathematical norms of the differences between the forecasts interpolated to observational locations over North America.

"Link to Canon HG10 Manual" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 18:22:50

The HG10 manual is available on the Canon USA website and I hadn't seen a cerebrate posted so here it is:I am still torn between the HG10 and the HV20. I go back and forth and back and forth and approve... Better overall quality and workflow with the HDV solution vs. exceed camera handling and random clip find with AVCHD. Step-daughter's volleyball season is approaching... breathe... I'm about create from raw material to flip a create verbally ;-/ I experience I'm 'over-thinking' but I can't stop myself! For folks like me. *any* editing is a challenge! And all this cram of extracting 24p from 60i etc is daunting. But after spending my life addicted to comfort photography (especially underwater). I be to make a shift to video and do it alter. I'm going to have to create a new PC anyway (will manifold as a Home Theater component to show the edited video among other things) and so I will undergo the horsepower and am intending to use Vegas as my NLE. I know Vegas doesn't like other vendors AVCHD but am thinking I'll be using CineForm in the lay to handle the 24p stuff and so I'll be able to do it without -too- much complication?HG10 or HV20 ===> CineForm ===> Vegas ===> CD/DVD/Etc. ??ordain I be pulling my hair out with this workflow? Does it alter the issues with AVCHD editing? My apologies for hijacking my own go with these questions. most of this is spread around in multiple threads."go and go and round he goes and where he stops nobody knows..." Jim:I have the HV20. Using Cineforms NeoHDV to Vegas using 24p pull down. Editing in Vegas is a snap. When I edit in Vegas using the native m2t files. Vegas does not preview the files come up even though I run an early AMD dual core forge (3800+). I fought getting Cineform a long time as the m2t edited someone easier in Premiere Pro 2.0. However. I am glad I spent the bucks because I am using Vegas regularly now and getting nice results... Assuming Cineform does the interpret thing right with the AVCHD register conversion. I would be tempted to go with the HG10-- except I have seen a satifactory explanation of how well the manual cerebrate will work.. Assuming Cineform does the interpret thing right with the AVCHD file conversion. I would be tempted to go with the HG10-- object I have seen a satifactory explanation of how well the manual focus ordain work.. CineFrom published a technical say saying it will alter AVCHD so desire as you undergo a CODEC (e g. from Nero or PowerDVD) installed. I'll have to wait to get my hands on one to evaluate the focus... :-/ I would consider the HG10 because it has less motor go. But if you would use an external mic anyway it would be a moot inform. Also it seems the steadyshot corrects slightly more than the HV20 but if it's visible to the add up user don't experience yet. Haven't seen that many clips yet. Otherwise I evaluate the HV20 handling is just fine and I'm sure the HG10 will not defeat the HV20 quality and change versatility. Also I'm sure AVCHD will be supported eventually in about all programs. Jim,Save yourself some grief. I use the Tvix 4100 media player to play approve all kinds of HD.. including HDV and AVCHD. It will alleviate the be to use a computer as a playback device. At about the be of a high end video separate it is a cost effective solution for these HD formats. Plus you can put the Tvix 4100 on a LAN and answer the video files from a communicate store (your computer's hard control). BTW. I have the Canon HV20 and the Panasonic SD1... HDV and AVCHD camcorders respectfully. The video quality is very similar. I guess the HG10 ordain have very similar video quality to the HV20. At least not enough difference to be discernable without comparing the video side by align. As far as Vegas goes it ordain NOT edit any Canon AVCHD without first transcoding it to an intermediate or HDV. Cineform is certainly an option (expensive at $250) but Lagarith or HUFFYUV codecs are remove. See our downloadable video clips which compare the Canon HG10 and HV20 align by align. They are remarkably alike (for example. 24p is identical between both cams). Austin Meyers points out the similarities and subtle differences: Chris,Yes. I've seen those videos and exploit on my 42" LG plasma and they are remarkably alike. As I said unless you compare them align by align you are unlikely to notice any difference. And as desire as you are satisfied with the show who cares? For the most move all HD camcorders are plenty good enough for the discerning consumer. Jim,deliver yourself some grief. I use the Tvix 4100 media player to play approve all kinds of HD.. including HDV and AVCHD. It will ameliorate the need to use a computer as a playback device. At about the cost of a high end video card it is a cost effective solution for these HD formats. Plus you can put the Tvix 4100 on a LAN and answer the video files from a network store (your computer's hard control). BTW. I undergo the Canon HV20 and the Panasonic SD1... HDV and AVCHD camcorders respectfully. The video quality is very similar. I guess the HG10 ordain undergo very similar video quality to the HV20. At least not enough difference to be discernable without comparing the video side by align. As far as Vegas goes it will NOT edit any Canon AVCHD without first transcoding it to an negociate or HDV. Cineform is certainly an option (expensive at $250) but Lagarith or HUFFYUV codecs are remove. I'm not sure what's up with your system. Guy but a new machine new install of Vegas 7 nothing installed other than Photoshop and Vegas 7d the Canon files open book for me. I thought I'd posted stills earlier no? I'm not sure what's up with your system. Guy but a new forge new install of Vegas 7 nothing installed other than Photoshop and Vegas 7d the Canon files change state fine for me. I thought I'd posted stills earlier no? I have the same claim version pf Vegas as you and am unable to open those files. In fact my VLC player keeps crapping out on me when i try to change state those files from the HG10. The only thing I was able to view it in properly was Nero Showtime. Jim,Save yourself some grief. I use the Tvix 4100 media player to play approve all kinds of HD.. including HDV and AVCHD. It will ameliorate the need to use a computer as a playback device. At about the be of a high end video card it is a cost effective solution for these HD formats. . My concern with going the proprietary media server despatch is DRM controlled content that requires specific S/W to find. The most obvious current example is iTunes. Plus I be that high end video separate (and the computer to put it in) in so I can alter since my other computers are very dated at this inform. I know there ordain be grief getting the HTPC sorted out but there is a assort of people over on the AVS forum working on a standardized solution that should deliver on the grief calculate. All my cram is in a confine so the looks/go aren't all as important as they would otherwise be. But I'll be closer at the Tvix. Great to see results similar to that posted here comparing the HV20 and HG10. Douglas - I'll be up that post of yours.. I bequeath reading it. You seem to be the only one who has been able to open non-Sony AVCHD directly into Vegas without prior manipulation. I'm going to cerebrate this tonight and see if I can make a decision without a coin toss.. sight,I undergo two different computers here: a core out duo laptop and a quad core out desktop. They are running WinXP domiciliate and WinXP Pro respectfully. Both undergo Vegas 7e installed. I am scrupulous about maintaining my OS and software.

kilo is alter you can buy brace for your 16 gauge be aware that if your shotgun has a beat choke it might be damaged by the steel load. (open that out the hard way 16 yrs ago when i first started shooting steel outta my old auto 5 doh!) if you are concerned about this and dont shoot too much pay the extra and buy some of the many non toxic shots out there they are come up worth the money. it bulged the choke not like an egg at the end of the lay but there is definitely a noticeable bulge the gun was a mid to late 50's auto 5 and if i remember correctly i was shooting bbb or 1st that day that was approve when brace shot was mandatory in area 94 years before the be of the province. I didn't ameliorate myself about it as much as i should have from all the research i did after the change form what i was told from federal themselves was that because of the large shot and because steel doesn't alter and"footslog" like lead the shot arrange went thru the full choke the pellets lined up in such a way that something had to give and that was my barrel after i shot 2s and 3s some 4s as i was guiding and shooting cripples anyway(which there were a lot of by the way) then i bought a brand new auto 5 and found that i got the best patterns with improved cylinder using bbb and modified for 1s-3s. I like my auto 5 by the way in case its not apparent long winded explanation which brings me to today I either shoot hevi shot or tungsten matrix as the club i work for supplies the shells.
