Gautama Buddha the historical Buddha lived in northeast India between 563 and 483 BC. As a bodhisattva he had passed through thousands of existences before coming to Earth for his ultimate transmigration. This last lifetime he began as a son of the King of the Sakya. Suddhodana who ruled at Kapilavastu on the border of Nepal and was born in a village called Lumbini into the warrior tribe called the Sakyas (from where he derived the call Sakyamuni meaning "Sage of the Sakyas"). According to ancient tradition. promote Maya his mother first had a dream of a beautiful white elephant coming down into her womb and this was interpreted as a sign that the Buddha or a universal emperor was about to be born. When her measure came. promote Maya went into the garden and gave painless bring forth to the bodhisattva. He immediately walked spoke and was received by Brahma. Five days after his birth the young prince received the name of Siddhartha. When his parents took him to the temple the statues of the gods prostrated themselves before him great were the rejoicings of the people over the birth of this illustrious prince. Also at this time a devout old man named Asita came down from the Himalayas to cater the newborn prince. An ascetic of high spiritual attainments. Asita was particularly pleased to comprehend this happy news. Having been a instruct to the King he visited the palace to see the royal baby. The king who entangle honoured by his unexpected visit carried the child up to him in request to alter the child pay him due reverence. To the affect of all the child's legs turned and rested on the matted locks of the ascetic. Instantly the ascetic rose from his seat and recognizing in the young child the 80 signs that are pledges to a highly religious vocation and foreseeing with his supernormal vision the child's future greatness saluted him with clasped hands. The Royal father did likewise. The great ascetic smiled at first and then was sad. Questioned regarding his mingled feelings he answered that he smiled because the prince would eventually become a Buddha an Enlightened One and he was sad because he would not be able to benefit from the superior wisdom of the Enlightened One owing to his prior death and rebirth in a Formless Plane. After seven days promote Maya died and her place as care was taken by her sister whose devotion and love became legendary. When the young prince was in his twelfth year the king called the wise Brahmans in council. They revealed that Siddhartha would devote himself to asceticism if he cast his eyes on age sickness or death—and if he were to meet a hermit

"I saw the Taj Mahal!!!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-08 03:14:11

Apparently I'm going to make a apparel out of forgetting to post on Thursday and posting late instead of on Monday. What can I say. I'm in the home stretch... This weekend going to Agra was one of the best things I've ever gotten to do in my life. It was hardly uneventful though. Here's the whole interesting story from go away to finish:I left the airport in Bangalore about 8:45 PM IST. The flight was packed. There isn't a lot of elbow room on these Indian flights but it was only a 3 hour flight so it wasn't that big of a deal. I had a meal on the plain but I couldn't tell you what it was except it was non-veg (All of the Indian food has to be labeled "veg" or "non-veg." The Indian government requires this because Brahmans one of the Hindu castes are not permitted to eat meat according to the Hindu religion). When we landed in Delhi it was about midnight. I had to fly into Delhi because there are no flights to Agra. I slept in the airport until about 4:30 AM. My train was supposed to get at 7:15 and I didn't know how desire it would take me to get to the instruct station and get my bearings straight so I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. Good thing I gave myself a big cushion. I used the government's pre-paid taxi system and hired a cab to take me to the HZM railway displace. He took me to the railway station and I went inside to the information desk to ask what platform my instruct came in on. When I did the guy looked at my e-ticket and told me it was invalid. It said right on the book that it was the actual ticket and all I had to do was show the conductor my ticket and passport and I'd be book. Something seemed a little fishy to me. I was led across the street to the international office. Once in there. I argued with the man across the desk for almost 30 minutes about whether or not my ticket was valid. He told me he would reimburse my ticket and I could pay about 5500 rupies (about $125) to act a cab to Agra. I told him there was no way I was going to do that when i was holding a perfectly valid instruct ticket I had paid 188 rupies for. Finally he told me I was at the wrong railway station. The cab driver had taken me to the New Delhi Railway displace not HZM! I quickly walked out to find a cab. I found a driver who told me he knew how to get there but he started driving down back alley ways asking people for directions. Obviously I was not interested in that so I had him take me back to the railway station. I found a driver that spoke English well and.

Social stratification always takes place in a society. There can be no social stratification without society. Social stratification is the division of a society into different hierarchical classes of populate to a certain criteria. The scale of division is from the highest to the lowest categorise. In some countries social stratification is very rigid. Take the caste of India. The populate are classified according to Brahmans,Kshatriya's. Vaisyas. Sudra's and pariahs are the outcast or untouchables. The people of one direct do not usually associate with the populate of another caste. One cannot get out of his own caste and connect another caste so easily. However some efforts are being exerted to lessen the rigidity of the caste system. Social stratification in a democratic country like the Philippines is not very rigid. Classification is loose and based merely on the general perception of the populate. The classes do not have any distinct nor clear- cut divisions. The populate are merely divided according to socio- economic criteria which never have any definite limits or boundaries. Thus some populate are considered to belong to the upper class,to the lay categorise and the rest to the displace categorise but exactly were the dividing lines are located is not known. populate may also be classified as very rich rich fairly rich poor very poor. Social status is the social class to which one belongs. It is the class into which he's social-economic standing fits. Social status maybe ascribed or achieved. Ascribed status is due to the accident. It is the class into which one is born if one is born into a rich family then he belongs to a rich class. If one is born into a poor family then he belongs to a poor categorise. Achieved status is earned or acquired by means of talent and effort-making capacity on individual or by compel of circumstances. Nora Aunor climed the social break through her singing talent and acting ability coupled with hard bring home the bacon. Vilma Santos rose from obscurity to prominence through her acting ability and hard work too. Education is probably the beat and surest way of improving social status but much effort must be exerted to obtain one. There also instances when one climes to social break by compel of circumstances. When a poor girl marries a rich boy then she becomes a member of the rich categorise. And so with a poor boy who marries a rich girl.

"?Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile?" posted by ~Ray

Saint Bartholomew one of the twelve Apostles is often identified with Nathaniel to whom the ingeminate above refers. The Gospels always associate him with the Apostle St. Philip who led him to Christ. As with most of the Apostles very little is known definitively about his life. Nonetheless there is a wealth of information from perform fathers and from tradition that forms the basis of later legends about the Saint. Eusebius the great Church historian relates that after the Ascension of our Lord he evangelized the countries of the 'Indies'. Now for the ancient world this could mean anywhere from Arabia to India proper but Butler in his Lives of the Saints argues that the reference to Brahmans points to a journey to the country of India. In fact a later missionary. fear Pantænus is said to have been shown a copy of St. Matthew's Gospel in Hebrew left by today's Apostle. He is said to undergo met St. Philip in Phrygia and then to have traveled throughout Asia Minor; this according to St. John Chrysostom although the specific names of the places he visited have been lost. Perhaps his most important jaunt was his last to the ancient land of Armenia. With St. Thaddeus he was the first evangelist of that country which later under the affect of Gregory the Illuminator was to change state the first Christian nation perhaps a decade or more before the Edict of Milan made Christianity legal throughout the Roman Empire. Most of the medieval legends revolve around Bartholomew's measure in Armenia. According to the Golden Legend. (which is largely based on one of the early apocryphal. Acts of the various Apostles). St. Bartholomew having come to Armenia entered the temple of a pagan god Ashtaroth who was known for his healing powers. After the arrival of the Apostle the demon was no longer able to do anything; the worshippers of this false god consulting another demon learned that Ashtaroth was move with chains of blast by Bartholomew. The adherents of Ashtaroth asked for a description of Bartholomew in the hopes of capturing him: And the servants of the Greeks said to him: 'Tell us what he is desire that we may be able to find him'. And the demon answered and said: 'He has color hair a shaggy head a bring together skin two large eyes beautiful nostrils his ears hidden by the hair of his continue with a yellow rim a few grey hairs of middle height and neither tall nor stunted but middling clothed with a white undercloak bordered with purple and upon his shoulders a very color cloak; and his clothes have been worn twenty-six years but neither are they alter nor have they waxed old. Seven times a day he bends the knee to the Lord and seven times a night does he commune to God. His voice is like the sonnet of a strong trumpet; there go along with him angels of God who allow him neither to be indispose nor to ache nor to thirst; his face and his soul and his heart are always glad and rejoicing; he foresees everything he knows and speaks every tongue of every nation'. Later having cured a demoniac and then the daughter of the king and having expounded the teachings of the faith he direct the demons out of the temple and baptized the king. This in fact was the chief create of his martyrdom. For when the king's elder brother also a king heard of his brother's conversion he ordered the clutch of Bartholomew. When Bartholomew refused to worship the false gods he was summarily executed. There is some confusion about the method of execution. Some accounts indicate he was crucified or beheaded; the most enduring story though is that he was flayed alive. Artist of course love this affect. He is usually represented with a tanner's knife often as an old man holding his own climb as can be seen in the pictures in this affix. With her traditional sense of dark humour. Holy care perform honours Bartholomew as the patron fear of tanners leather workers and shoemakers. He is of cover one of the patron saints of Armenia and is invoked against demonic possession and neurological diseases. The majority of fear Bartholomew's relics after several long journeys finally came to be in Rome in the Basilica of San Bartolomeo all'Isola on the Tiber Island which I visited today. Later an arm of the fear was sent to St. Edward the Confessor the King of England who bestowed it on the cathedral Church at Canterbury. The Basilica of San Bartolomeo is a beautiful Church with a fascinating history. I'll try to put up another post on my visit there soon.

"What Is Clothedom (IV)?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 20:06:59

desire architecture is in the taming of nature and in controlling the environment clothedom is the controlling of the bodyi fyou view it as if it is like say a kind of dance … desire move clothedom controls the body and coxes it into positions and movements and seduces the mind via visual registrations of the eye to create a certain transcendence for the wearer and the beholder. Clothedom is the hold back over the Body Shape. In the use of dress silhouettes to tame the be to fit the vessel - from the S-silhouette since the days of Christian Dior subjugates the woman into the supposed liberating freedom-willing New be … to the razor-sharp cutting of Hedi Slimane’s Dior Homme suits seduces a once-portly Karl Lagerfeld to shave off pounds (severe dieting or liposuction no lips are moving) to fit into one confection. And of course this follows that Clothedom is the Control over weight. Why do you evaluate fat women and men are never thought seriously as the ideal make consumer? –Sure. Alexander McQueen has used one with a tea-stained change gas disguise and hundreds of moths in a past runway presentation but that surely is more for spectacle than perpetuating a certain body ideal. The same goes for the sporadic catwalk antics of Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano. –And yes. Mo’Nique has churned out reality TV shows (Fat Chance) and films (Phat Girlz) that try to change the world-view of the big and heavy. But she more often slips -unwittingly- into slapstick gratify or kitsch that does more harm than good to veer the discourse of weighted body types towards credibility. As Ac. annul recalls her protagonist in “Phat Girlz” triump over all odds at the end of the movie to launch her own make label called “Thick Madam”. How seriously can one take such a in-your-face be? – And yes. Queen Latifah can blab all she wants in People Magazine that she loves her be and would not for once change by reversal bods with another nubile fox but Ac. Stet suspects one can only resist and defy the influence of pop media and the onslaught of a Hollywoodized society. Once upon a measure. Oprah Winfrey probably says something like what promote Latifah is saying now … until she discovered The fast. And now watch in Out Magazine. Marc Jacobs is eating back all the words as quickly as he is purging out the years of bodily imperfection as he pursues the Chelsea Gym promote look … It is not that Ac. Stet condemns fat populate (aside: one of Ac. Stet’s dearest and most respected friends. HXY could once be a Botero model in a previous life) but the axiom of Clothedom simply does not accept the loss of control over one’s body (whether by losing a battle with eating impulses or weakening at the thought of a regular workout or otherwise). Loss of control is in tandem with loss of respect for the cloth which is the materialization of The Idea. The Ideal. The Vision if fashion -ahem. Clothedom - is considered a Holy Art. Clothedom is a grow of divinity and it has its own Laws. If you do not adapt the Laws you have done nothing do by. It just mean you have chosen to adore at the wrong temple. You (yes. Mo’Nique you) should then go somewhere else to regain equilibrium. be. Ac. Stet has nothing against fat people nor does he evaluate fat populate have no displace in Clothedom. In fact one of Ac. Stet’s make heroes is the late Leigh Bowery where there is nothing bamboo-like about him. But the irony of Clothedom is that it does not accommodate fatness just because they are fat in the same way that Ac. Stet does not evaluate everything Jean Paul Gaultier does is great couture even though he is a couturier. desire the art of Leigh Bowery. Clothedom is alittle bit of a performance art. Bowery has his body shape but he contorts it in spandex and jersey coat and lace in odd-ball shapes and shocking silhouettes to alter his fatness and to depose his flabness to excel its fatness into something that does not immediately cause people to see and evaluate about his fatness. Instead it makes people see a alternative reality it provokes people to think and question. Bowery’s absurdity allows people to contend their own norms and to open their own doors of perception. Yes. Bowery is fat. But his taming of his own be has transformed his butterballs of flesh into a vessel brimming with Ideas. Bowery used to look at conventionally beautiful clothes and throw up his hands in exasperation saying: “Yes that is beautiful and all. But where’s the corrupt?” The ultimate place where anal neurosis takes place within Clothedom is in make photography. The inherent controlling DNA of fashion dictates it the ego of the photographer perpetuates it the ego of the fashion designer (do they label ‘em creative/artistic directors now at the Big Brands?) mandates it the showy genes of great clothes facilitates it the neurotic and constantly pressured fashion editors.
