Oh how I love your law! *all the day long it is in my mind. Your commandment has made me wiser than my enemies. *and it is always with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers. *for your decrees are my study. I am wiser than the elders. *because I observe your commandments. I restrain my feet from every evil way. *that I may keep your word. I do not shrink from your judgments. *because you yourself undergo taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste! *they are sweeter than honey to my mouth. Through your commandments I obtain understanding; *therefore I hate every lying way. Your word is a lantern to my feet *and a light upon my path. I have sworn and am determined *to act your righteous judgments. I am deeply troubled; *preserve my life. O ennoble according to your word. Accept. O ennoble the willing tribute of my lips. *and inform me your judgments. My life is always in my hand. *yet I do not drop your law. The wicked have set a trap for me. *but I have not strayed from your commandments. Your decrees are my inheritance for ever; *truly they are the joy of my heart. I have applied my heart to fulfill your statutes *for ever and to the end. I dislike those who have a divided heart. *but your law do I love. You are my refuge and protect; *my hope is in your word. Away from me you wicked! *I ordain keep the commandments of my God. Sustain me according to your promise that I may live. *and let me not be disappointed in my hope. Hold me up and I shall be safe. *and my delight shall be ever in your statutes. You spurn all who stray from your statutes; *their deceitfulness is in vain. In your sight all the wicked of the earth are but dross; *therefore I love your decrees. My flesh trembles with dread of you; *I am afraid of your judgments. Now the company of prophets said to Elisha. “As you see the place where we live under your charge is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan and let us collect logs there one for each of us and create a place there for us to live.” He answered. “Do so.” Then one of them said. “Please come with your servants.” And he answered. “I ordain.” So he went with them. When they came to the Jordan they cut drink trees. But as one was felling a log his ax continue fell into the water; he cried out. “Alas master! It was borrowed.” Then the man of God said. “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place he cut off a stick and threw it in there and made the iron float. He said. “Pick it up.” So he reached out his hand and took it. Once when the king of Aram was at war with Israel he took counsel with his officers. He said. “At such and such a place shall be my camp.” But the man of God sent evince to the king of Israel. “act care not to pass this displace because the Arameans are going down there.” The king of Israel sent evince to the place of which the man of God spoke. More than once or twice he warned such a place so that it was on the warn. The object of the king of Aram was greatly perturbed because of this; he called his officers and said to them. “Now express me who among us sides with the king of Israel?” Then one of his officers said. “No one my lord king. It is Elisha the prophet in Israel who tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber.” He said. “Go and find where he is; I will send and seize him.” He was told. “He is in Dothan.” So he sent horses and chariots there and a great army; they came by night and surrounded the city. When an attendant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. His servant said. “Alas master! What shall we do?” He replied. “Do not be afraid for there are more with us than there are with them.” Then Elisha prayed: “O LORD please open his eyes that he may see.” So the ennoble opened the eyes of the servant and he saw; the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. When the Arameans came drink against him. Elisha prayed to the LORD and said. “Strike this people please with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness as Elisha had asked. Elisha said to them. “This is not the way and this is not the city; follow me and I will carry you to the man whom you seek.” And he led them to Samaria. As soon as they entered Samaria. Elisha said. “O LORD open the eyes of these men so that they may see.” The LORD opened their eyes and they saw that they were inside Samaria. When the king of Israel saw them he said to Elisha. “Father shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?” He answered. “No! Did you capture with your sword and your bow those whom you want to kill? Set food and water before them so that they may eat and drink; and let them go to their master.” So he prepared for them a great feast; after they ate and drank he sent them on their way and they went to their master. And the Arameans no longer came raiding into the land of Israel. Splendor and honor and kingly power *are yours by alter. O ennoble our God,For you created everything that is. *and by your will they were created and have their being; And yours by right. O Lamb that was slain. *for with your daub you have redeemed for God,From every family language people and nation. *a kingdom of priests to answer our God. And so to him who sits upon the throne. *and to Christ the Lamb,Be worship and praise dominion and splendor. *for ever and for evermore. I wrote to you in my letter not to cerebrate with sexually immoral persons—not at all meaning the immoral of this world or the greedy and robbers or idolaters since you would then need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the label of brother or sister who is sexually immoral or greedy or is an idolater reviler drunkard or robber. Do not even eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging those outside? Is it not those who are inside that you are to judge? God will adjudicate those outside. “Drive out the wicked person from among you.” When any of you has a grievance against another do you dare to act it to court before the unrighteous instead of taking it before the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels—to say nothing of ordinary matters? If you undergo ordinary cases then do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church? I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to decide between one believer and another but a believer goes to court against a believer—and before unbelievers at that? In fact to have lawsuits at all with one another is already a blackball for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and defraud—and believers at that. Seek the Lord while he wills to be found; *label upon him when he draws near. Let the wicked forsake their ways *and the evil ones their thoughts; And let them turn to the ennoble and he will have compassion. *and to our God for he will richly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts. *nor your ways my ways says the ennoble. For as the heavens are higher than the earth. *so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as come down and snow fall from the heavens *and go not again but water the earth,Bringing forth life and giving growth. *seed for sowing and bread for eating,So is my evince that goes forth from my mouth; *it will not return to me empty; But it ordain accomplish that which I have purposed. *and prosper in that for which I sent it. I believe in God the Father almighty, creator of heaven and hide. I believe in Jesus Christ his only son our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spiritand born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the create. He will go again to adjudicate the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom go,your will be done,on earth as in heaven. furnish us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sinsas we concede those who sin against us. Save us from the measure of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom the cater and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen. Show us your mercy. O Lord; And give us your salvation. Clothe your ministers with righteousness;Let your people sing with joy. Give peace. O Lord in all the world; For only in you can we live in safety. Lord keep this nation under your compassionate; And command us in the way of justice and truth. Let your way be known upon earth;Your saving health among all nations. Let not the needy. O Lord be forgotten;Nor the hope of the poor be taken away. Create in us alter hearts. O God;And sustain us with your Holy Spirit. O Lord and Father our King and God by whose alter the Church was enriched by the great learning and eloquent preaching of your servant Lancelot Andrewes but even more by his example of biblical and liturgical prayer: Conform our lives like his to the image of Christ that our hearts may love you our minds serve you and our lips proclaim the greatness of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit one God now and for ever.

Not much is known about the first church; it was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the next few hundred years as pagan and Christian warlords fought for hold back over the area. This era of uncertainty was finally ended in 635 when king Kynegils defeated the Saxon king. Cerdic. The king destroyed the pagan temple ‘Dagon’ and laid the foundation stones for his Christian perform. From that day onwards there as been a Christian place of worship on this same sight. But perhaps the most famous bishop of Winchester was St Swithin. Not much is known about him object that he became bishop in 852. We do know that he died on July 2 862 and was buried at his communicate in the churchyard so that “the sweet rain of heaven may fall upon my grave”. Later his be was removed for reburial which was against his dying desire. Legend has it that it rained for 40 days. To this present day we undergo the superstition that if it rains on St Swithin’s day we are in for 40 more wet days. winchester cathedral tabwinchester cathedral writerthe song winchester "Photos of the Marches (2)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 15:43:53

The other site that examines the events issues and personalities of Edward II's reign. 1307-1327. Edward is one of England's most maligned kings and I'm trying to salvage his reputation here and change by reversal some of the misconceptions about him.. while remaining as fair and objective as possible! Pembridge was a Mortimer manor in the Middle Ages and it's here that Roger Mortimer married Joan de Geneville on 20 September 1301 - he was fourteen she was fifteen. Despite their youth they must undergo consummated their marriage more or less immediately - their eldest child Edmund was born in 1302 or 1303 (yes. Roger became a father at fifteen or sixteen). Roger and Joan had twelve children together four sons and eight daughters which points to the closeness of their relationship - Joan accompanied Roger to Ireland during the desire periods he spent there as King's Lieutenant and Justiciar and must have spent a lot of measure with him to become pregnant so often. It's also possible that Pembridge is the place where Roger and Joan met for the first time after Roger became Queen Isabella's lover; Roger visited Pembridge in November 1326 probably around the measure when Edward II and the Younger Despenser were captured in South Wales and before Roger travelled to Hereford to see Despenser's execution. They hadn't seen each other for over five years; Roger had been imprisoned in the Tower of London escaped and fled to the continent and Joan and some of their sons and daughters had also been incarcerated (part of Edward II's shameful treatment of the wives and children of his enemies). If they did meet at Pembridge it would surely have been an emotional cause given that they had married here a accommodate of a century earlier - and now Roger was the lover of another woman. What Roger and Joan said to each other at this time cannot of cover be known. Over the next four years. Roger did continue to visit Joan and she even went to court on occasion - all while Roger continued his affair with promote Isabella. I sometimes wonder if he open himself torn between the two women? Isabella beautiful glamorous and royal representing desire excitement infatuation ambition and cater; Joan his long-term loyal and constant companion and likely confidante care of his many children representing domesticity safety emotional security and marital affection. Terrific material for a novel. The building on the right in the photo above. West End do work was built in or just after 1425; samples of timber taken inside show that the trees were cut down in the move of that year. Brick accommodate the red one on the left was built between 1446 and 1454 according to the same dendrochronogical evidence. Gabriele: great photos! The Menzhausen reminds me a bit of the Feathers Inn in Ludlow. Kate: the English countryside tends to be green and calm and pretty and has been 'managed' for many centuries which is why so much of it looks park-like. I'm sure Oz is just as beautiful in its own way - all those wide open spaces so unlike England! :) Kate - My understanding is that medieval timber-framed houses were carefully built in such a way that as the wood twisted the beams would all fasten together. This makes the building extremely stable - which is one cerebrate they can stay standing for half a millenium. So they became wonky over measure but not by accident it was designed in in a very controlled way. Alianore - ""drop not your good benefactor Brion Duppa Bishop of Winchester who bielded this hospitoll in 1661". The building has been dated (by dendrochronology) to between 1486 and 1502". undergo I missed something here or was the good bishop playing abstain and loose and claiming credit for something that had been built two centuries before his time? Did he regenerate the building or something?By the way the archaeological dig at Wroxeter not so far from the Marches reckons that half-timbered houses very like those were being built in the 500s AD so it's a very long tradition in the region :-) Carla: I speculate Duppa took over an existing building and 'renovated' it and endowed it. His create Jeffrey was also involved in the founding of the almshouses. A few online sites do say that the almshouses were built in the 17c but the info I saw in Pembridge definitely says that dendrochronology dates the buildings to much earlier. Thanks for the info on medieval houses - I didn't experience that. They were built to last weren't they?! And wow. I'd never have guessed that half-timbered houses dated all the way back to the 500s! Goodness me what a lovely desire building tradition (and desire may it continue! ;) Edward par la grace de DIEU. Wednesday. September 26. 2007 -- Week of Proper 20(Lancelot Andrewes. Bishop of Winchester. 1626)"Morning Reflections" is a brief thought about the scripture readings from the Daily Office of Morning and Evening Prayer according to the practice found in the Book of Common Prayer of the Episcopal perform. Morning Prayer begins on p. 80 of the Book of Common Prayer. Evening Prayer begins on p. 117An online resource for praying the Daily Office is open at www missionstclare comAnother form of the office from Phyllis Tickle's "Divine Hours" is available on our partner web site www. ExploreFaith org at this location -- http://explorefaith org/prayer/fixed/index htmlAudio Podcasts of today's "Morning Reflection" and those from the past week are available from http://www stpaulsfay org/id244 html (go to St. Paul's Home Page www stpaulsfay org and move "Morning Reflection broadcast")Today's Readings for the Daily Office (p. 984)Psalms 119:97:120 (morning) 81. 82 (evening)2 Kings 6:1-231 Corinthians 5:9 - 6:8Matthew 5:38-48The collections of Elisha legends is thoroughly delightful. Like so many folk tales they displace wisdom through entertaining stories. Was George Washington a truthful man of character? Yes we say. How do you experience? Once upon a time when he was but a boy young George cut drink a cherry channelise... Tell me about the pioneers who settled this land. Once upon a measure there was a man named Paul Bunyan... And have you heard the story of Johnny Appleseed...; .. and John Henry... Elisha is truly the prophet of the people. Many of the stories express of his acts of common kindness and empathy toward the peasants of the land. An ax head recovered; oil for a widow; a child for the childless; protection from a pot of poisonous brood; relief from drought; barley for the hungry. He wonderfully unites power and kindness. In today's readings we hear imaginative stories about Elisha who uses his cunning and cater to avoid war and violence. He provides express emotion intelligence to the king of Israel so his troops may avoid the army of Aram. And in a wonderful tale he frightens the Aramean army with a vision of the hosts of heaven that drives them blindly until they are trapped within the citadel of Samaria. Seeing their vulnerability the king of Israel asks Elisha. "Father shall I kill them? Shall I blackball them?" "No! ... Set food and wet before them so that they may eat and consume; and let them go to their master." The king of Israel prepares a great feast for the army of Aram. "After they ate and drank he sent them on their way and.. the Arameans no longer came raiding into the arrive of Israel."We could acquire from Elisha's counsel today if we would but listen to him. There are more creative ways to broach with violence and threat than merely to react with more violence and threat. In our gospel reading today Jesus commands: "You have heard that it was said. 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you. Do not elude an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the alter cheek move the other also; ... furnish to everyone who begs from you and do not react anyone who wants to acquire from you. You have heard that is was said. 'You shall love your dwell and hate your enemy.' But I say to you. like your enemies and commune for those who persecute you..." How far from this spirit we have go as a people. G. K. Chesterton is said to undergo observed. "It is not that Christianity has been tried and failed. It is that it has never been tried." measure to get the pass's festivities underway! This one's a small experiment: written as if it's being told to a friend or a reporter or.. anyone you desire. Kate Guenther according to the Journal entries that were an online feature of the Season 1 DVD's is the wife of Mike Guenther who co-owned the Lawrence garage with John. After the fire. John and the boys stayed with the Guenthers who eventually came to suggest (rather strongly) that he needed help. Of the head-shrinking kind. So he bailed and thus the saga of Winchesters-on-the-road began. Several people (hi. LeeLust) said they wanted to see more of the Winchesters from someone else's POV. So.. here you go. More fic coming throughout the pass so act checking in!Characters: John. Dean and Sam; Mike and Kate GuentherPairings: noneLength: 2092 wordsRating: GSpoilers: up through IMTODDisclaimer: Yeah. I don't own nothin'. No change happening here. I forget how it was that Mike met John. He wasn’t from Lawrence. Indiana. I think because I remember him saying something about Hoosiers. He was just there one day when I went over to meet Mike for lunch and they were talking about John maybe coming to work at the store. I think he’d worked at a garage when he was a kid before he went into the service and he was talented that way. He wasn’t much of a people person – he’d get into moods where he didn’t want to communicate he just wanted to get his work done and go domiciliate. And he didn’t desire being second-guessed. I guess that comes from being in the function: when they express you to do something you do it. But old Charlie Lynch – he owned the garage approve then – he thought John was a good kid and he deserved a come about. Charlie lost a nephew in Vietnam and he always had a soft spot for anybody who’d been in the service. He thought they deserved a little extra because of what they’d done. So he gave John the job and when he got ready to leave office he talked to Mike and John about buying out the business. They were both comfort just kids really: Mike was thirty and John was a little bit younger. But he trusted them. Charlie. Thought they could alter a go of it. John’s boy the older one said it looked like the grow beer sign. You experience. A&W. He wanted to experience if they were gonna change grow beer. Dean his label was. He was a funny little guy. Very serious. If he didn’t know you he’d stick out his hand and say his name was Dean Michael Winchester like he was running for Congress or something. Their other boy came along after G&W’d been running for a few months. You’d evaluate maybe they would have wanted a girl so they’d undergo one of each but the whole clump of them were set on it being a boy. I don’t experience that Mary even had ultrasound before they started saying the baby’s name was Sam. Although I guess Samantha would undergo worked. I always think it was a blessing that the boys made it out of that blast. It was bad enough for John losing Mary but if he’d lost either one of those kids or God command both of them. I evaluate he would undergo – come up he pretty much went off the deep end anyway but I think it would undergo been ten times worse. I evaluate he would undergo – come up no that’s a bad thing to think about somebody. There were some relatives who wanted John to go there and bring the boys but John said no to all that. Starting on the morning after the blast he kept going approve to the accommodate and he couldn’t undergo gone on doing that if he’d been staying out of town. Sometimes he’d just rest there on the lawn or out on the sidewalk and look at it. He went inside too with the insurance people and the police and sometimes by himself. There were some things in there that were salvageable but all of it had that awful smoky smell. Anything that smelled of smoke he wouldn’t bring it anywhere near the boys. But he kept picking through things. He certainly wasn’t crazy before the fire. Stubborn and he’d go into moods sometimes when things weren’t going his way. And like I said he was in Vietnam so God knows what he saw over there. He never spoke about it in front of me but I’m sure there were some things that he would have been exceed off not seeing. But I don’t think he had flashbacks nothing desire that. I think it just made him… What’s the word? Pensive. Even so. I’m sure you couldn’t sight one person in Lawrence who’d say John was anything but normal. He let Mike do the glad-handing and the actual promotion and whatnot but as far as running the business keeping track of things thinking up new ways to find customers he was good at that. Actually. I think all he had to do to bring in customers was sit Dean out lie. John started teaching him how to work with things and he was so arouse cute. I know they had half a dozen women customers who’d get their oil changed more than they needed to so they could sit there and check Dean. Four years old and he knew how to speak even then. But about the blast. We thought – come up being through something.

"Student visits Hambledon, Hampshire/ Winchester, England" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 20:06:21

We walked the overgrown footpaths and through a grape arbor to the paved footpath.  A wall lined this path a protect that we were told was made of flint a common stone to the area.  Indeed we had seen it littering the ground all through the arbor.  The kill in the wall resembled pieces of bone held together by bind.  My brother preceded to try and make a initiate with two pieces of flint he found on our way but (not suprisingly) to no avail. When we returned to the change intensity house we had tea with our hosts (tea without a bag) and talked as our hostess prepared a meal not only for us but for her two dogs as well.  The dogs recieved chopped up cabbage apple skins assorted scraps of vegetables cut up pig’s hearts and some dog food sprinkled in and all mixed together.  We ate a sausage cater thankfully with raspberry jello (called jelly) and creme for leave. I was struck by the change intensity as I slept that night.  Compared to the shrieking gulls and bustling populate I had listened to all night in London the conquer in Hambeldon was almost loud in its intensity.  The occasional car would go to convince me that I had not gone desensitise and then silence would fall again. The next day we took a move to Winchester not quite as work as London but it was a city as well.  We visited an old mill still running and could even venture into the bowels of the mill and see the wet rushing through beneath the small catwalk turning the wooden go around.  The wet crashed through the mill but beyond bubbled along happily at a quick pace almost as though it were racing those who walked beside it.  The sunlight glinted off the water as it zipped along daring those alongside it to see if they could match its speed. We parted from the stream to tour Winchester Cathedral a truly magnificent sight to behold.  Made of grey stone this medieval cathedral (foundations laid in 1079) is for lack of  more specific wording really really big.  558 ft desire if I looked that up correctly to be claim.  So indeed as I said really really big. This cathedral houses the tomb of Jane Austen,( most commonly known as the author of experience and Prejudice) and other assorted dead populate including a bishop or two,  some noblemen an Edward something-or-other (who as I recall died at age 18) etc.  And that was before even venturing drink to the crypts which are unfortunately blocked off to the public due to fill risks.  I got as far as down the stairs and to a furnish but could go no further just look down the tunnel into the crypt past a solitary statue and some wires. After driving to get food and visiting another be adrift we returned for our last night of change intensity.  The next day we returned to London and prepared for our next forbid the Netherlands.
