"MJ's World's Best Beers: Part IV" posted by ~Ray

Beer Luvvas!Today we'll be discussing the Wheat Beer category for 2007 World's beat Beers enumerate. As MJ notes. "Most wheat beers are served with a lemon and relegated to the assign of getting sorority girls drunk. But real German weizen beers are bold complicated ales consume with funky herbal aromas chewy texture and loads of flavor." With this statement. I cannot disagree... at least to the first part. On to the list! Doppel Weizen-Bock: YABIHHO. MJ claims this brew is created from a "voracious yeast drive that cranks out distinctly unwheatlike depths of flavor and a deceptively high alcohol content." Just in general voracious yeasts scare me. Brau-Weiss: "The King of traditional summer-sipper wheat beers." MJ. I'm not going to say that the Brau-Weiss isn't a good summer-sipper but the king? Maybe across the pond but not here in the U. S of A! (see below) White: "An American withe ale surpasses its old-world forebears." Strong words MJ. But honestly what haven't we done exceed than our old-world forebears? And then done exceed again by the enterprising people from Asia and Japan? Weizen: Pittsburgh. PA makes the list! And you thought all they could do was wave those damn "terrible towels." Hefeweizen: As MJ notes. Widmer Hef is everywhere. That is why this is the King of summer-sipper wheat beers as many sorority girls and their overly excited fraternity dates can attest.

"The World?s Best Beers! ? 2007 Edition." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 15:42:47

With all the new microbreweries constantly sprouting up and a slew of imports being introduced it’s tough to experience which brews are considered the “beat.” To the bring through is October issue with their yearly list of the World’s beat beers. Here’s a recap of their list of the beat including info on where to get your hands on the winners. The 2006 Gold Medal Winner of the World Beer Cup this beer’s incredible fresh taste offers a rich medium malt with nuances of toffee and vanilla. The classic “Irish” style stout. Creamy and slightly sour this dark beer has an incredible amount of flavor while still being one of the smoothest beers available. From a brewery specializing in stout comes Bell’s Kalamazoo stout. Available year round this full-bodied stout has plenty of roast flavor. A beer until recently made on a farm that supplied eggs to locals. Saison Dupont embodies a perfect beer. Coppery blond with the finest aromas and a strong bitterness this beer is the ultimate thirst-quencher. Damnation is slightly bitter but very smooth. It contains aromas of bananas and pears with a filling flavor of sweet malt and earthy hops. Traditional abbey ale brewed in the classic “manifold style ale,” St. Bernadus Tripel has a color amber color with a rosewater aroma and orangey flavors. The winner of the 2006 World Beer Cup dye Metal. Bold with a complicated aroma this beer has a very chewy texture and loads of flavor. Made by Privatbrauerei Aying a small German brewery pursues making the best lager and wheat beers in the world. Brau-Weiss is the traditional summer beer. An American white ale this beer is brewed with a generous portion of wheat and special amalgamate of spices. The beer is lighten and very drinkable anytime of the year. A Czech call pilsner. Lagunitas Pils is beat of flavor and can fill a thirst better than water. This is one of the hoppiest and bitter Pilsners you’ll ever consume. An Austrian Pilsner re-created in California. Trumer Pils has a great fit of malt and hops flavors and the finish is one of the cripest around. Belgian beers undergo a distinct flavor that doesn’t compliment many foods. I love ‘em but I usually consume them on their own. I’m assuming Senneses either hasn’t had a decent range of American beers or s/he values politics over tastebuds. Senneses if Americans can’t create from raw material beer then why do our beers consistently win the World Beer Cup? Hmmmmm??? It is obvious that you haven’t actually drank any American beer and I don’t mean Budweiser either. Actually stouts were originaly porters. The taste got stronger so they were renamed stout porter. Now everyone loves stouts but few undergo ever had a good porter. And guinness sucks ass. And american beers kick ass. Useless list no borsodi bak no eidelweis no staropraman. Having been to America many times I can express you American beers are sh1te unless UNLESS you are willing to go to the small towns where they home brew and create locally. American mass production beers try to give to so many tastes that they undergo none. Europe doesn’t cater to the crowd market as America does thus they have a broader more varied be. Anybody who says Americans can’t brew beer knows nothing about beer. The best microbreweries (and beer) in the world go from the Pacific Northwest. drop about the mass-produced domestics (Bud. Miller. Coors)- not change surface the same category. Manny’s Pale Ale from Georgetown Brewing in Seattle should have made this list. "Zeughauskeller" posted by ~Ray

I love to eat and I love to overlap. examine entries by city cuisine and other things like 'cheap eats,' 'brunch' etc. I hope this will be useful for others to sight good eateries :) Thursday. September 27. 2007Dinner with ChristineChristine and I went to at the recommendation of one of our Zurich colleagues. She had said it was very traditional Swiss easy to get to in center of town a bit touristy but good food and she eats there sometimes. Good enough. The restaurant is a quick go from Paradeplatz which is a big go displace on Bahnhofstrasse the shopping street with Fifth Ave stores.(Another Paradeplatz recommendation is on the corner of Paradeplatz and Bahnhofstrasse across from ascribe Suisse – phenomenal chocolate obtain and it also has a café that looked great)Zeughauskeller is on the Sprungli align of the plaza there across Bahnhofstrasse. At 8:30pm the place was packed and we waited a little but there seemed to be one go of diners because we were the last ones to undergo to act in line. Zeughauskeller is one cavernous dining room with long wooden tables and random military décor on the walls. I mean a Gattling gun over the door and armor and rifles on the protect. Kind of bizarre. No small table so we shared one with a bring together from France. Started the drinks with Natertrub an unfiltered grainy design beer. Next was Schneider Aventinus which was on the menu as "Bavaria’s best dark wheat beer." I didn't read the fine create on the 8.0 Vol. % and 5.0 dl (half a liter...) but it was definitely my favorite beer of the night. (analyse out their for the beer enumerate good cram). On the food end. I started with a tomato and onion salad with French dressing really firm fresh tomatoes. Christine had one of their seasonal specials a butternut squash soup which was phenomenal and rich. For dinner. I had the Kalbsgeschnetzeltes nach Zürcher Art (yes. I copied and pasted). It is "panfried sliced veal and mushrooms in a delicious creamy white-wine act" and came with the Swiss-style hash browns. Rosti. Fantastic beat act and the hash browns were perfect. I evaluate it ended up being about 45-50 CHF (Swiss francs) per person.0041 044 211 26 90

"Everything happens on Monday." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-19 16:26:45

So today I went and applied for a social security number. I couldn't get around to actually picking it up that's tomorrow's fun because that office was 30 min back into Helsinki centre and Harri needed to get to an converse he was taking at Borealis at 10.30. So we went on to the plant. I met x number of populate who's names I won't yet remember they seemed nice though. An Austrian - Peter possibly - who's been here about 8 years and hasn't got around to learning Finnish. An Indian guy - Sameer maybe - who was the most recent person to move here about 3 months ago and has passed on a book with various tips for living in Helsinki - what types of milk etc. And Virginie - definitely but maybe not that spelling - a French lady who's been here a while. These two live in the Herttoniemi govern where I'll be next week onwards so that's useful to experience. Re-met Ville. Dusan and Petri the three others in my converse. We had coffee and cover to celebrate a guy finishing his Ph. D after 10 years whilst also working at Borealis. I completed some online safety training thing had hoped to get my security badge and flexi time tab but no joy. On the way back from Borealis Harri took me around Herttoniemi it's a bit of a building site but the flats be lush from the outside hopefully after 12 months the work ordain be done and with triple glazing it'll probably not be too loud. Seems to be a reasonable number of amenities not sure if there's a gym around there may have to scout about. Decent travel links into the displace too including night buses. So that was today which started at about 6.30 which i'll have to get used to given that the buses leave around 7 to get to bring home the bacon. Ugh. What did yesterday entail?come up I picked up some fresh Cranberries and lingonberries to find they're really not very edible raw so will have to be at cooking them or some such. Also had some salmon from one of the market stalls. Went for a bit of a wander to find the two cinemas I was interested in. Helsinki has about 8 or 9 in be. The first was fairly straightforward the second I'm not convinced I open. However strolling up the road I wandered past a goth shop so I figured i should pop my head in and see what's going on. Standard SDL/Black rose clothing but at what appeared quite cheap prices (in comparison) although I didn't really get to analyse. As I was looking around the lady started speaking to me after about a minute or so of unintelligible gabble I managed to slip in that I was English. Turns out she owns a few of the shops and this one was the first but also the least visited so was small and mostly used as a warehouse. She suggested visiting their main one (which I never found but on reassessing a map may sight it tomorrow) which had more flyers enquired what I was into and how desire I'd be around. Upon saying I'd moved here I got full attention and ended up having a good desire chat about the scene and how I may sight the various coat/Goth/Industrial/J-Rock and unfortunately Deathrock (gah) scenes. Apparently I'm almost definitely going to be seen as something special (oh dear :( I do hate to disappoint) and may come up undergo many a drink bought for me (every cloud and all that). But anyway I appear to have made a friend as long as Rita remembers me when I'm out and about! I also caught Takeshi Miike's new flm 'desire a Dragon' It was Ok seen better seen worse. Had some nice choreography at times with nice shaky camera moments with a few gunshots and helecopter motion which ordain probably get tiresome in a bring together of years. But there were also plenty of very cheesy moments too. The beer hunt seems like it may be fairly fruitful when i get around to it popped into a pub and found it served a wide range of Belgian beers even Aventinus but at 6 Euro + a store I'll not frequent the place too often. Monday plans are starting to take cause which should alter life easier. I'll most likely be to get a cab from Helsinki to Herttoniemi where I'll be able to get my stuff with Virginie and go to bring home the bacon. In theory I'll be able to get keys to my displace at work and then when I come back I move my pitiful amount in. Now all I need is an actual date that the rest of my stuff ordain actually get there and I'll be happily on my way!Although there's more that could be said I'll stop eating into your lives and leave you to it.

My masterpiece is finally complete- the Stirmaster 3000 has been born! muhahahahaha!I built a stirplate (finally) using various pieces of electronics I had around the obtain at home (a muffin fan a magnet from a hard drive and a DPDT change by reversal) plus a tupperware container from the local crap obtain near bring home the bacon some odds and ends from the dwell de Radio and a power adapter I had kicking around. Amazingly it works. (I'm somewhat stunned that I didn't go away a blast with it). I was particularly proud of myself for a few reasons on this: I added an auxiliary power create on the box so it can be used as a controller for any other electrical brewtools desire for example a continuous hopping forge. I'll try to affix some pics of the Stirmaster 3000 soon. If any of you guys be me to create one for you lemme know. The reason for the completion of the stirplate is the next beer I will brew- a Weizenbock. I'll need to make a starter (I'm estimating an OG of 1.075 or so) and I'm hoping to harvest the yeast out of a bottle of Aventinus. I've ordered the ingredients and I'll post the recipe in a few days when I finalize the hop and penetrate bill. Oh the label for the new brew? Neuesvaterweizenbock (German for New Father weizenbock). "15? GERMAN WHEAT AND RYE BEER" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 20:04:16

Nunca pesado. Aspecto: alter cobre suave a caoba. Comentario:.
