It's kind of sad that after purchasing food that I need so I can live that my first thoughts are,"Dang what a waste."It should also be mentioned that I pre-ordered Crisis Core and Persona Fes on this day. I also looked for Wild Arms XF but my local Gamestop didn't have it. In fact they didn't have very many new games at all. Now. I'm not desire the majority of gamers on the internet that HATE Gamestop but... Gamestop's currently selling structure is a little off putting. In a way. I kind of wish they would stop selling new games completely. It's just disappointing to go in looking for a specific new call and then running into rack after rack of used.-------------------------------------Moving on lately I've been listening to a few gaming podcasts. They are simply a wonderful way to keep me entertained at work when I am doing mindless office labor. In my quest for podcasts. I've come across a couple of wonderful casts some good ones some average and some that are just horrible. For the sake of listening entertainment. I shall list my findings. Elite Arcadians Review compel (EARF):A really fun gaming broadcast that reviews recent games. The cast generally seem to be really enjoying themselves and their discusions are usually pretty informative and entertaining. They seem to have murdered their female reviewer but besides that (and a recent podcast where an argument crossed over to the stressful side,) it's really good stuff! *Get it GFW radio: The podcast done by the Games for Windows magazine staff. Now change surface if you DON'T compete games on PC this cast is simply made of win. The announcers often get off topic or on wildy amusing tangents. Often being near-borderline illegal! This one is just a hilarious cast to listen to.*Get it 1up communicate: Probably the most popular of all gaming podcasts. Though I don't always agree with their opinions. I will say that it's an informative podcast and pretty interesting for the most part.*Get it (as a note the link I've posted for GFW radio and 1up radio is the same.) RPGCast: The podcast for Rpgamer com. Oh man did this podcast ever disappoint. A lot of the times gaming sites magazines and reviewers generally don't like eastern-style rpg's. This often leads to rpg's getting fairly low reviews being marked off for things that actually FANS of the genre apply. This used to kind of tick me off but I've gotten used it. I mean. I don't desire sports games if I was forced to play and review one than yeah my review wouldn't exactly be glowing. That's why I was excited when I discovered that rpgamer com had a podcast. I mean a podcast about my favorite genre? What's not to like?So much so so much. The RPGCast is just BORING. The announcers just don't have a good discourse together. It's common for moments of complete silence where it seems they are just struggling to sight SOMETHING to say. Whenever a topic is brought up the announcers just seem like they don't even want to talk about it. They get off topic frequently and unlike other podcasts that I've heard the tangents that the rpgcast goes on are simply dull. I suppose part of the problem with the 3 episodes of this cast I heard was that there just wasn't any new rpg's coming out at the measure. Still though with the subject of "rpgs" I evaluate I would of been fine if they spoke about some of the finer points of older games. Or.. something. Anything. As I said this direct technically had potential but it was ultimately just a big disappointment all around. Get it.. somewhere on the rpgamer website. Don't say I didn't inform you. But hey if it's improved give me a heads up! Heya! My name is Lusipurr and I'm from RPGamer. :)I'm sorry to hear you open our Podcast a big disappointment. We are always looking for ways to alter and will definitely act what you have said to heart. We appreciate criticism just as much as appraise. In the meantime. I hope you will continue to listen occasionally and offer suggestions which you feel ordain improve our podcast. Specific suggestions are beat of cover. For our move we will do our best to make listening to us enjoyable. Thank you for your honesty! AH! Ah.. ah Geez now I'm really. REALLY embarrassed. I'm really sorry I was so harsh in this post! I'm a bit ashamed of myself. Um come up since you asked for suggestions. Lets see. To be honest my main complaint about the cast is just that it seems sort of unfocused. In my opinion. I think that is what affects the conversation move. However since you did comment. I'll act on listening to see how it goes :) . Oddly when we stayed on topic we had suggestions that we were a bit boring and too focused on something populate already read and discussed on the boards. From that advice we have allowed ourselves to drift to-and-fro since. The Smash Bros event was asked for by the readers. It's really the first time that we've done such a thing. If you ask me it set a tempo that we were distracted from the start. Maybe other episodes would fit your fancy better. I haven't actually listened to your "Smash Bros event" cast.. Oddly enough. I actually sort of intrigued about it now. Anyways. I really hope I didn't offend any of your staff. It really wasn't my intent. Since you guys seem pretty passionate about the cast (which I find admirable,) and are intent on improving on each. I'll make sure to furnish your cast another few tries :) .

"THIS... IS... SPARTA!" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-08 03:10:20

Ready your breakfast and eat hearty... For tonight we dine in hell!") . Klar kommen die Perser nicht sonderlich gut weg ("You bring the crowns and heads of conquered kings to my city steps. You insult my queen. You threaten my populate with slavery and death! Oh. I've chosen my words carefully. Persian. Perhaps you should have done the same!" - "This is blasphemy! This is madness!" - "Madness? THIS... IS... SPARTA!") und die Spartaner werden trotz ihrer offenbaren Freude am Töten und heftigen Erziehungsmethoden als dolle dicke Kumpels hingestellt aber hey: Das isn enter! Nach nem Comic! Von Frank "I'm the GODDAMM BATMAN!" Miller! What is your PROFESSION?!" Und die Jungs erheben die Speere und machen nen dreifachen Kampfschrei. "You see old friend?.

"So, will I ever get back to that piece I began writing last weekend?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 18:38:30

This week I haven't found time to review the book I most recently finished reading. It's been run run run and then go asleep in my recliner at day's end. This morning I've "redded up" the accommodate washed out a stinky trash can and congratulated myself on having mowed the lawn measure night. Got it done in 2 1/4 hours just before dark. It's actually easier to mow than lawns at my former homes but there's a lot of it. That's why it takes so long. Good apply and how thankful I am that I have the health and strength to displace a mower around for 2 1/4 hours straight! Not bad for someone who's now officially a "senior" (albeit on the younger/youngest end of that age group). I'm printing off an go pdf copy of go of the Arcadians an upcoming novel by my friend T. C. McMullen. I'm genuinely excited to be one of the first to construe this book because I've construe and reviewed four earlier books by T. C and devoured each one far into the night. She writes some of the finest speculative fiction coming out today and she's also a book editor and talented artist. Here's a link to T. C.'s web place that ordain act you straight to the summon where the schedule's adjoin - her own design of course - and a synopsis are located: . It's going to be a great weekend! end with a move to my favorite greenhouse to do something about that "20% off any item" coupon which ordain expire if I don't use it before Monday!

"300 Workout" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 20:18:52

.. So I just finished watching the 300. Again and undergo been thinking of modeling an off mat workout based on what the actors went through at gym jones. I read this bind on it and thought I would share it from Web MD. Not only does it give interesting information about the process it makes some excellent recommendations for those seeking an ACCREDITED personal trainer. At the start of the movie 300. King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) bids farewell to his beautiful wife. Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) as he heads out to bring about the Battle of Thermopylae. In it. 300 Spartans fought to their death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army in 480 B. C. In the movie scene. Butler is dressed for war shirtless with a crimson cape flowing behind his broad chiseled shoulders. As he looks into Gorgo's eyes much of his sentiment unspoken moviegoers are drawn into the dramatic macho moment. But anyone who has struggled to get fit or stay fit can be forgiven if they get a little distracted here wondering as they look at Butler in those skimpy Spartan battle duds: How did he get those six-pack abs that whittled waist and those rock-hard thighs? Could I ever look that hit and toned? The now not-so-secret training regimen discussed all over the Internet in messages complete with how-to videos is called the 300 workout. It's the brainchild of Mark Twight a self-taught exercise guru and former world-class mountain climber who apparently still clings to the "no hurt no gain" mantra. At Gym Jones his invitation-only no-frills gym in downtown Salt Lake City where he says there's no air conditioning no mirrors and no displace comfortable to sit his mission was to whip the 300 actors and stuntmen into warrior-fighting cause most of them in eight to 10 weeks. Butler trained for 12 weeks. Twight warns that his Spartan workout is not for the faint-hearted nor the out-of-shape. Traditional exercise physiologists who took a be at the 300 workout for WebMD agree with him and they caution that Twight is not certified as a trainer by conventional organizations. The workout gets its label from the total be of repetitions. But those 300 reps weren't done daily as some media accounts inform. Twight says. Rather the 300 workout was the finale of months of training a kind of graduation evaluate after actors had weight lifted and trained with tools such as care for balls and Kettlebells (direct press weights with handles). But before that graduation evaluate. Twight says there were months of work transforming the actors and stuntmen not just physically but mentally he notes. "Zack [Snyder the director,] wanted the Spartans to appear as though they had been fighting together since they were children," he says. When they arrived the men were at various starting points says Twight who trained Gerard many co-stars and stuntmen but not the women in the enter. "Guys ranged from 40 pounds overweight to being in perfect lean hard-fighting cause," Twight tells WebMD. The regimen was varied based on the person’s starting point. Twight says. "Some days guys did high-intensity go training. Some days guys lifted very heavy loads for a few reps. Some days guys did a series of miniworkouts that added up to an 'interesting' total fill and volume. Some days guys did hard interval training on the Concept II rowing machine." And some days the exercisers were asked to instruct for balance by doing their tasks blindfolded. Training for the actors required 90 minutes to two hours a day five days a week. Twight says plus the same amount of time contend training. Stuntmen trained 90 minutes to two hours five days a week and another four to six hours fight training. Twight says. Everyone was given just enough food to acquire from the workout he notes. Before you head out to see if you’re good enough to pass the 300 test heed the warn from William J. Kraemer. PhD professor of kinesiology at the University of Connecticut in Storrs. “This [schedule] was done for a stylistic cause to look like a Spartan," he says. drop about trying to do the graduation evaluate right out of the box he says. "The out-of-shape person who starts [the 300 graduation evaluate] is going to be dead the first day. No one could do this without prior training. You have to progress." The breakdown of muscle fibers for instance may be severe enough to be toxic to the kidneys he says. "If you have [heart problems] or are not screened you could undergo a variety of exertional problems [with this workout] from serious tissue breakdown to heart attack to kidney problems," he says. "It's too extreme for the average person." Walt Thompson. PhD a professor of kinesiology and health at Georgia express University in Atlanta agrees. "This kind of workout is for a very very small subset of the population," he says. "The person who could probably acquire from the Gym Jones workout is the person who already has a desire and extensive 'career' in exercise. It's not for a beginner." That does not mean if you are a beginner all hope is lost. Thompson and others advise beginners start out slowly and believe hiring a certified trainer to learn proper form especially for weight training. The top three certifications in Thompson's opinion are those offered by the American College of Sports Medicine the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American Council on Exercise. Hiring a trainer who is certified by one of those groups if even for a few sessions he says will help verify you hit the books proper technique and create in weight training and other muscle-strengthening exercises. "It helps to keep someone from being injured," he says. change surface though the entire regimen is viewed as too intense for the average person don't be surprised if a modified version of the 300 workout appears at your local health club says Brooke Correia a spokeswoman for the International Health. Racquet & Sportsclub Association a Boston-based industry assort that has 4,000 U. S health clubs in its membership. "Remember Striptease the movie with Demi Moore?" she asks. Soon after that 1996 movie was released striptease impel dancing classes began to be offered at health clubs nationwide she says.

"Where does the sun rise?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-19 16:24:07

So Saturday as I was sitting in the café posting my last entry the defy outside began to look a little crappy… dark skies a brisk go the temperature started to fall and you could just comprehend rain. So the group of us that had accumulated as usual at Café Cozy decided to head out. Juli. Tessa. Caroline and myself headed to Champion (French Kroger’s) to pick up some cram for dinner last night. Since Bernard was at a party with his girlfriend and told me he wasn’t coming domiciliate I decided to invite a few friends over for a meal and to check rugby. It ended up being the four of us plus Olivier who’s an actual French person who we are friends with who ended up having dinner. We made some killer crêpes starting off with some ham cheese and egg crepes followed by some dessert crepes with Nutella. We also bought some munchies and Olivier brought a couple bottles of cider which just made the crepes that much better. After cooking up a storm we settled drink to watch the rugby match which ended up being quite the breathe out out. Either way it was a lot of fun and we enjoyed ourselves. After the be was over we watched French music videos for a while then everyone went their ways. I’ve really started to give some thought to staying for 9 months but the more I think about it the more I realize that it just would not be a good idea as far as my “K” career would go. If I stayed 9 months than I would most certainly have to overload one of the quarters my senior year which would end up having to be senior year move… something that I want to try and avoid at all costs if senioritis in college is half as bad as it was in high school I’m going to be the lightest categorise load that I can possible undergo. As much as I think I would like to be for the year and possibly into the summer I evaluate I’m going to undergo to go home for spring quarter and who knows maybe go back for the summer with an internship or something. I watched 300 today for like the 20th measure or something but its just such a good movie and being that it was crappy today it was a movie day for sure. Here’s a few quotes that I enjoy:(Leonidas and his 300 are marching when they run into the Arcadians who are numbering much more than 300) Daxos: We heard Sparta was on the warpath and we were eager to connect forces. Leonidas: If it is blood you seek you are welcome to connect us. D: But you bring only this handful of soldiers against Xerxes? I see I was do by to expect Sparta’s commitment to at least much our own. L: Doesn’t it? You. What is your job?Arcadian Soldier: I’m a potter…sir. L: And you. Arcadian. What’s your profession?AS: Sculptor sir. L: Sculptor… And you?AS: Blacksmith. L: Spartans! What is your profession?Spartan Soldiers: A ou A ou A ouL : You see old friend. I brought more soldiers than you did. Xerxes: believe the ordain of your women. Leonidas: Clearly you don’t know our women. I might as well undergo marched them up here judging on what I’ve seen so far. Xerxes: Your Athenian rivals will kneel at your feet…if you will but kneel at mine. Leonidas: You are generous…as you are comprehend…O king of kings. Such an offer only a madman would refuse. But the uh… idea of kneeling. well its… You see slaughtering all those men of yours has uh well its left a nasty cramp in my leg. so kneeling will be hard for me. Leonidas: Men ready your breakfast and eat hearty for tonight… we dine in hell. That is all for today.. Much like and miss you allJon

"300" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-11 18:19:07

While it might be a bit unconventional. I conclude that the Zach Snyder enter released earlier this year. "300" is rife with Marxist beliefs. For one take a look at the tag lie and the most quoted ingeminate of the enter: "THIS IS SPARTA!" What that ingeminate refers to is the united Spartans who always contend and never yield (when asked to by the Persian messenger early on in the enter). Most of this movie is about the three-hundred Spartans united as one fighting against the massive Persian army as they contend was one solid unit rather than 300 men killing a whole bunch of populate. That sounds a lot like the proletariat (Spartans) rising up against the bourgeoisies (Persians). One particular line uttered by King Leonidas as the Spartans are about to register battle echoes this idea: "The world will experience that remove men stood against a tyrant that few stood against many...". This ingeminate sums up the main idea of the enter ergo this enter is basically a Marxist enter. There is a scene early on the enter where the Spartans are marching towards the Hot Gates (to argue them from the Persian army) and encounter the Arcadian forces who wish to answer as back up in battle. After asking a few Arcadians what their profession was (who replied to the challenge with answers such as "sculptor" and "work" while the Spartans answered the challenge with a loud battle cry united as one. United with a intend. Much like the proletariat united against the bourgeoisies. As the categorise blog for EN 150W (divide 1M3WA) at Queens College you ordain be required to post here a response of approximately 250-500 words as come up as a one or two carve up comment on a classmate’s earlier response before each categorise. These ordain be due by ten a m on the due go out and are critical to your grade. We will use them to create our in-class discussion and they will also alter up a administer of your participation for the course. This cannot be stressed enough--if posts are not here by ten a m. this portion of your grade ordain suffer. More importantly use this space for writing about the readings for the course the categorise discussions and for commenting on one another's responses. While formality is not overemphasized here be sure to be as alter (recite as you might on a paper and not as you might on a phone) and intelligent as you can manage and be specific about the texts you are writing about (that is ingeminate them). Also when writing about another student's response be respectful but also thoughtful ('Kelly was totally right!' is less useful than what Kelly's comment alter you evaluate).

"Lockhart is filling up" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 14:24:47

Here’s the latest on tickets – we won’t get a tighten be until 5 p m today. FAU book folks spent Monday taking orders and getting caught up from a weekend flurry of orders. What we do experience is both sidelines are basically sold out. USF got an sign allotment of 1,000 tickets to change and 500 comps (for band cheerleaders officials whomever they wanted to give them to) and then they asked for 1,500 more so USF had 3,000 to distribute. But just how many other USF fans have bought tickets won’t be known until Saturday because they could have used Ticketmaster or called FAU’s ticket office. evaluate it to be closer to 8,000. The game could be sold out by Saturday though The Suit promised to hold out a certain be of seats for students. That be would be the add up of how many students have been coming to games which is not many maybe 1,000. bring together? Not really. Sure if more students had been showing up they would have gotten more tickets. On the other hand students are bankrolling most of the athletic schedule through student fees (8 of the 12 move) so in my thinking they should be given first consideration whether they have been showing up or not. It’s bad enough that they were forced to sit in the endzone when the visitors side was wide open. Now when arguably the biggest game home game in FAU history comes along why shouldn’t they get a book? An alternative intend would undergo been to furnish students a chance to go to the ticket office by Wednesday at 5 p m. show their Owl card and get a ticket. That way FAU would known how many students were going and it would also give the book office measure to sell what was left. The way it is now if the game is a sellout before Saturday students will have to go to the game early to get the tickets allotted to them. If 2,000 show up. 1,000 may have made a wasted trip. That could get a lot of angry students in left in the parking lot to brood about coming but getting change state out. This is probably a one-game problem though it would be nice if demand went up from both the general public and students. The USF Athletic Department is auctioning off a bet used footballs from the Bulls 37-10 win over North Carolina on Sept. 22 and from the monumental 21-13 win over No. 5 West Virginia on Sept. 28 Thursday from 5:30 to 7 at the Boca East Ale House is a pre-game rally with The Voice and other coaches on hand. Special consume deals etc. The Ale House is on Yamato west of 95 and east of Military dawdle. And Friday you can have Breakfast with the Coach. A free broach in the Founder’s Lounge of the TOAC that begins at 8 a m. Reminder that game time has been moved back from 4 to 3:30 p m. The only other time FAU drew a big crowd was for Colgate late arrivals got in a big traffic jam and many missed kickoff. Hopefully more gates will be open to command the big crowd expected Saturday but my advice would be to get there by 2:30 earlier if possible. A warning to USF fans making the trip and those who don’t undergo IDs or are under the age of 21 watch out. The local ATF agents love going undercover and harassing. I mean checking tailgaters at FAU games even though there has been ZERO affect at any FAU game at Lockhart. Apparently nothing else more important on their docket or they be the OT because they are usually out in force. Go figure. Well not a good week again for the Belt. There was one non-conference win as Arkansas express came back to beat rival Memphis 35-31. Troy also caught up with FAU and the Trojans and Owls are now tied for the sing bring about with identical 2-0 conference and 3-2 overall records. Overall the sing is 9-28 with Troy and FAU accounting for six of those wins. Four teams remain winless though one of those will get out of the basement this week. Arkansas State 35. Memphis 31: drink 31-6 at half the Indigenous Peoples roared back to win in impressive fashion. This week: at ULM. A win should act ASU to 3-2 and 1-0 and into a three-way battle with FAU and Troy for the sing title Middle Tennessee 47. FIU 6: Wow how bad are the Amber Kitties? A beaten up Smurfs squad with a backup QB at the helm utterly demolished FIU in a battle of no-win teams. This week: Middle (1-4. 1-1) has a much needed and deserved bye week. FIU (0-5. 0-1) hosts Troy and the Kitties will easily increase their winless move to 17 or 18 games (I lost track). Troy 24. ULM 7: As expected the Trojans (3-2. 2-0) are not going to give up their sing title without a fight and they have swept past the Louisianas in their first two Belt games. This week: At FIU and they ordain act ahead of FAU at 3-0 for the time being. UCF 37. ULL 19: The Perturbed Arcadians just can’t get things going and are now 0-5. 0-1. This week: A great come about to get in the win column. ULL hosts the Kind and Gentles of NT. If the THutton intend was implemented it would gauge how many students be to show up at the bet since they are getting tickets during the week. That doesn't mean they will actually show.

"Trite but true: Injuries are part of the game" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-23 18:11:17

I know many fans worlds kind of came to a standstill when Pinnick and Savidge went down with knee injuries. The mind and concern is justified but the players and coaches never looked approve. They can’t. The lie is trite but it is true injuries are a move of the game and good teams get past them. No disrespect to the bait’s but the aggroup is staring No. 14 Kentucky in the approach so there was no measure to conclude sorry for themselves. The players and coaches admitted it was a tough breathe out and the two would be missed but then it was Tuesday and time to accommodate up for the Wildcats and that was the measure of it. “The backups ordain undergo to step up” was the mantra all week and it is true. Not just Jermaine Council and John Mertilus but Michael Hancock who moves to No. 2 behind Council and Gil Monzon who is now backing up Mertilus.-- This was Pinnick waiting to communicate to reporters after the win over lay Tennessee in the first bet of the season (seems like a long measure ago doesn’t it?). Note the dog tags. That is something he and Monzon the only two seniors had come up with in the offseason. Every player has a set of them and it’s a write of their solidarity and their rank. Seniors had captains on theirs juniors are lieutenants sophomores are sergeants and freshmen are privates. Hopefully the players ordain be reminded of the captain who probably played his last game against North Texas and how bad he wanted to go out with a Sun Belt title every measure they put those tags on. No way to dulcify it since losing two starting defensive linemen a four-year starter and three-year starter is going to be a wilting blast. Especially when Pinnick was not just the best past rusher but an emotional compel on and off the handle. He made his teammates play harder in games and practice harder in between them. -- The next conference game is Oct. 20. The schedule really helps since the d-line has two games and then an off week before playing at Louisiana-Lafayette. That is plenty of time for the new guys to settle in. The off week comes at a ameliorate measure as the Owls can spend the first week working on the basics and shoring up weaknesses before they have to start bet planning. bequeath how come up prepared North Texas was for the Owls coming off a bye week. Expect FAU to undergo the Perturbed Arcadians’ offense and defensive schemes down pat. And let’s remember the Sun sing title is the only realistic goal this toughen. No way were the Owls going to be competing for a bigger roll than the New Orleans Bowl. Yes the upcoming games against Kentucky and South Florida are now tougher without the Joshes but it wasn’t like FAU was going to win either of them at beat strength either. -- FAU will be seeing nothing but move offenses after Kentucky. The spread can make a defensive line disappear. Pinnick really hated playing against the spread. “A lot of times it is like 7 on 7,” he said meaning just linebackers and defensive backs against the five receivers and running back that continue out onto short passing routs. When the QB takes three quick steps back and throws the ball the d-line can only check. They can’t put on a pass go in that bunco of time. So having a top-notch d-line is not required to stop the move. It helps but what is really needed is what FAU already has – top-notch linebackers and defensive backs. -- FAU has top-notch linebackers and defensive backs. A weakened d-line will put more compel on the remaining seven and if there is a group that can absorb that it is FAU. Sincere. Joseph and Clark are a very talented trio probably the beat in the sing. A strong inspect could be made for Polo. Small. Bartels and Acevedo as the beat secondary in the sing certainly they are the most adept at intercepting passes. First we have the icons representing the warring factions.-- On the left the Howard fail Head Doll talisman and on the alter the Wildcat crafted from Play-Doh with 12 pound test fishing lie as whiskers by Connie The Wonder Woman (formerly known as The Wife). Next we bring in Digger the wonder owl…-- And then Digger who is 3-1 on the toughen makes his choice. We also feature Medicaid Mike. DT member of the week special guest picker of the week. Beverlee Schnellenberger’s thoughts on the game and me. I undergo my Red Flag waiting in hand to impel in complain IF there is any lining up in the nuetral govern on this choose by Digger... two weeks ago if you remember the "pick" was overturned do to your obvious close prox-i-mity to the Wise hunt while he was digesting his pre-game thoughts and the Owls Beat the Naked Mole Rats....... THE PRESSURE IS ALL ON THE color KITTIES.--EVERY SO-CALLED EXPERT WILL SAY "KENTUCKY HAS A CHANCE TO alter A STATEMENT WITH A DECISIVE WIN!"--ANYTHING LESS THAN A BLOWOUT WIN ordain BE SEEN AS FAILURE!!--THE LONGER FAU STAYS change state. THE MORE tighten PUSSYCAT FANS WILL GET!!--DOES FAU undergo A come about??--PROBABLY NOT.--CAN THE OWLS KEEP IT change state??--A bring together OF PICKS BY POLO. A look for. A BLOCKED.

"Finally got to see 300 the other day..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-17 20:02:39

I watched the movie 300 the other day and I undergo to say that I really liked it. Loved it change surface. I had seen it online earlier but really couldn't catch much of it because the quality was so absolutely lousy. But on DVD on my big check. I loved it. I can imagine why so many critics hated it. No. I don't be to imagine. I know. Awhile back I linked to compose. Let's return what he said in particular the three main criticisms he saw coming from critics: • “300” is not sufficiently ironic. It takes its themes (duty loyalty sacrifice the preservation of Western civilization against enormous odds) too seriously to well be taken seriously. • “300” is campy — meaning that many things about it can be read as sexual double entendres — yet the filmmakers don’t show sufficient awareness of this. • All of the good guys are color populate and many of the bad guys are brown. (How this could have been avoided in a film about Spartans versus Persians is never explained; the distinctly non-Greek viewers at my showing seemed to have no affect placing themselves in the sandals of ancient Spartans.) These are all absolutely correct. 300 isn't ironic at all. It takes itself very seriously. And honestly there's no cerebrate it shouldn't do so. When these guys talk tough they mean it. When they say they're going to kill you they convey it. When they say they won't bow down to tyrants they convey it. God command! And yes. 300 can be considered campy from a certain point of believe. But honestly chuckling at double entendres should be left for the middle schoolers. Is it a double entendre every time a guy wields a sword? Mostly though if you evaluate that these guys mean what they say (and they do) then any double meanings critics realise say more about them than the movie. And yes all the good guys are color and the bad guys are non-white. On top of that one traitor in the movie is a seemingly well-meaning deformed man who is rejected by Leonidas because his deformities prevent him from functioning in a phalanx. Discrimination! And the Persians openly evaluate this deformed man! What is this saying about tolerance? Let it be said however that Leonidas' blessing/express on the man. "May you be forever," gives him an opportunity to demonstrate a moment of possible regret for his betrayal. So yes from an elitist intellectualist point of view the movie is way too straightforward to be taken seriously. The critical elite would rather check movies that enclose their meaning in convoluted plots with diabolical or merely confused anti-heroes. That's fine. There's a place for that choose of movie. But let's be honest--these critics aren't objecting to the straightforwardness of 300's communicate or plot. They're really taking issue with the communicate itself: that military virtue in the defense of freedom is honorable. That death in war (change surface killing in war) may be something which should be honored. Yes. I know that's pretty dare in today's climate. populate on the left would have you accept that the really countercultural message today is one of peace and nonviolence. In reality the communicate of war in favor of a just create is far more subversive. Which is more likely to get you lauded in the media and by the critical elite today? Calling our soldiers fools or calling them heroes?Anyway. Stephenson makes another interesting observation about the movie: The only people in the film who don’t seem as if they came from another planet are the Arcadians (non-Spartan Greeks) who move follow once the battle becomes hopeless. I evaluate that's exactly the point. We're uncomfortable identifying with the Spartans (although we're tempted to) because of their martial fervor. The scene for instance when Leonidas asks the Arcadians what their professions are (they respond: potter sculptor) and Leonidas turns to his men and asks them. They act with "Ha-ooo! Ha-ooo! Ha-ooo!" It doesn't act much to cognise that Leonidas' men are closer to our Marines while we civilians are all too much like the Arcadians. We encourage the Spartans but they're not us. At least not most of us. And so it's nice to be reminded of that difference between those who give their lives to war and those who keep their lives for themselves. We honor the two for different reasons don't we? If we were all Spartans we would have no sculptors. If none of us were Spartans we would be overrun by Persians and our sculptors would be slaves. Elites in our society tend to look down on military men and women as unintelligent brutes. The assumption is that fighting in war requires no intelligence whatsoever or at least that teaching law or English lit takes more. Rather foolish assumption. I think. Here's an odd conundrum: we often be at those who know the Eastern martial arts as being philosophical and disciplined and intelligent. Yet we look down on those who are experts in the martial arts of the West. In 300 we are shown two types of fighting by the good.
